Wordpress 2.6 has been released and they included a video that highlights the changes with the obligatory British gentleman narration.
Also I just wanted to add that since 2.5.1 I have had this weird bug where my comments in moderation always showed incorrectly. I thought 2.6 had fixed it but now it just always shows 0 comments in moderation =(

July 28, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Be careful if you use bbPress as an integrated forum.. it currently does not work out of the box with WP 2.6. I just got burned on that on one of my blogs and had to roll back to a 2.5.1 backup.
July 23, 2008 at 10:57 am
All the bugs will fix with a fresh install. It seems that the upgrade isn’t doing much. I’ve had several different problems with different blogs.
Anyway, 2.6 is a fix release for the 2.5.x series.
July 21, 2008 at 7:58 am
Um… Never use x.x.0 releases?
July 19, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Upgraded from 2.5 to 2.6 using Fantastico – now can’t login! (It’s a private blog) – what do I do now?
July 18, 2008 at 2:31 pm
I just updated my wordpress 2.5 blog thanks
July 18, 2008 at 7:53 am
And I have already done so. -)))))))))))))))
July 18, 2008 at 6:46 am
This is great news for me. I will install it today.
July 17, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Great ! a new wordpress release. Nothing beats a wordpress blog’s seo
July 17, 2008 at 8:51 am
I think it was overloaded. It worked for me yesterday but still takes a while to load.
July 16, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Should I update? Yes. There are some major security issues with some of the earlier versions. The automatic update plugin seems to do the job okay.
July 16, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Hardly. We still have to do it via FTP (or through the revision server) manually… Why can’t we get automatic upgrades like we get with plug ins?
July 16, 2008 at 7:35 pm
It’s generally not smart to go around telling people you’ve not upgraded yet… That’s basically like saying “oh, by the way, I’m still vunerable to all the security wholes that were fixed in the new release.”
July 16, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Hmm. Isn’t revision tracking going to be a little reasource intensive? As someone who sells WordPress installations as a service, I really don’t want my customer’s databases getting huge from tonnes of revisions.
July 16, 2008 at 1:05 pm
I just upgraded and lost all of my permalinks. This means that all my posts could not be pulled up.
If the same thing happens to you, try this.
http://www.jaygeiger.com/index.php/2008/07/16/permalinks-fail-in-wordpress-25-and-26/
July 16, 2008 at 6:23 am
This is good news. Thanks for the update, Shoe.
July 16, 2008 at 5:58 am
Okay, thanks for your answers. How many blogs do you run? Is there a practical boundry… for example you have to consider using WordPress MU after 12 blogs?
July 16, 2008 at 5:27 am
British? Sounds South African to me!
The shift click will be useful.
July 16, 2008 at 2:35 am
Yeah, upgraded as well. Looks pretty cool.
BTW, it’s actually an Australian accent.
July 16, 2008 at 2:09 am
if they keep releasing new versions at this rate, that wouldn’t be such a big surprise
July 16, 2008 at 12:16 am
Theres usually a security update in some of the versions and so it might be in your best interest to do so. Plus after a while themes and certain new plugins will only be for a newer edition of wordpress onwards.
July 16, 2008 at 12:14 am
True, most of us are on plain old Wordpress
July 16, 2008 at 12:14 am
I have about 25 plugins and there was one plugin that just wouldn’t activate and kept saying fatal error but I soon got it fixed with a new version. You shouldn’t have any problems, I dont think.
July 16, 2008 at 12:13 am
I believe so at least thats whats floating around.
July 16, 2008 at 12:12 am
I had gotten used to it myself after a while but I added “Fluency Admin” (search for it on Google) and it actually makes it more pleasing to use.
July 16, 2008 at 12:11 am
hahaha, shouldn’t it be Turdpress? Either way, I think Wordpress is probably the most customizable blog platform out there.
July 16, 2008 at 12:10 am
They actually have a 3-step guide to upgrading so its not that bad actually. You might want to give that a shot, I did it myself and I fear updating my blog to a newer version.
July 16, 2008 at 12:09 am
Hey Melvin, whats the issue youre having with threaded comments? Also, are you using Brian’s Threaded Comments or something else?
July 16, 2008 at 12:07 am
I like the idea of word count considering that sometimes I find it hard to write a 1000 word paper for school but very easy to write a 1000 word blog post!
July 16, 2008 at 12:07 am
hahaha, I actually upgraded the first week of July to 2.5 from 2.3 mainly because of I was scared to lose all my info and then today I had to gain the courage to do it all over again. Phew! Its finally over!
July 16, 2008 at 12:06 am
I’m having that issue myself but I’m just going to let it be and have it ifx itself…hopefully!
July 15, 2008 at 11:58 pm
Yes I’m upgrading as well.
July 15, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Thats a featurefull release..
Thanks for the update
July 15, 2008 at 11:21 pm
i’ll wait…i never like being the first one to upgrade…looks like some really nice features have been added though so I will probably test it on my small sits first
July 15, 2008 at 9:48 pm
wow those new features look great, especially the revisions and press this.
July 15, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Thanks for the link. Very handy.
July 15, 2008 at 8:33 pm
haha I just found the easter egg! very clever wordpress
July 15, 2008 at 8:30 pm
2.6.1 will probably be out in a couple weeks hehehehehe
July 15, 2008 at 8:18 pm
To avoid your blog getting haxored.
July 15, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Yeah I had a fun bug too when I installed it, apparently you need to logout then re-login to get back into admin after the install. Doh
July 15, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Just to keep up the work :p and sometimes older version is too much better than new ones for a lot of stuff!
July 15, 2008 at 5:41 pm
its’ called Wordpress MU. check this link for documentation: http://mu.wordpress.org
July 15, 2008 at 5:34 pm
if you ask me, yes it is necessary. otherwise why would they be releasing new versions ?
July 15, 2008 at 5:32 pm
I just upgraded my wp. very smooth process
July 15, 2008 at 5:04 pm
I have upgraded. It was a very smooth update if you have automatic upgrade plugin
July 15, 2008 at 4:44 pm
I haven’t upgraded yet…but probably i’ll upgrade by this week.
July 15, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Damnit, I just went and updated like 15 blogs all the way up to 2.5! Whats that plugin that will act as a “master” and anything you do to it will work on slave blogs you have spread out on different servers and such? I definitely need to look into that.
July 15, 2008 at 4:10 pm
Sweet. Installing it now.
July 15, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Some nice new features. Really like the post revision thing. FINALLY a word count on the side
July 15, 2008 at 3:52 pm
you have also a small problem on pages with a lot of comments. after 300 comments the page breaks
July 15, 2008 at 3:24 pm
That’s what I hate when upgrading and that’s why I still use my old 2.3 version. I can’t stand spend all that time testing plugins. BTW, do you upgrade your plugins? I always use the latest version of my used plugins, I even blogged about the plugins that I use and that every blogger should use in my opinion:
http://www.zakshow.com/2008/07/14/list-of-necessary-wordpress-plugins/
July 15, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Yes, that’s what I alraedy heard. Is that true?
July 15, 2008 at 3:20 pm
I still using the old 2.3 version and it work fine for me. Should I have to upgrade? Is it necessary?
July 15, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Wordpress MU is multi-user platform and most of them won’t see a need of it unless they are creating a community of blogs.. So its Wordpress which we use.
July 15, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Neat new options, at least its not an invisible upgrade those that you don’t know what changed after installing.
July 15, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Yup, time to do this later when I get home. Make sure to backup!
July 15, 2008 at 1:26 pm
Do you (visitors) use Wordpress or Wordpress MU?
July 15, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Testing, testing… comments.
July 15, 2008 at 1:15 pm
I think its great. They just have to fix some bugs.
July 15, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Cool, thanks for the update
July 15, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Anything above Wp 2.3 sucks
July 15, 2008 at 12:02 pm
Looks like I need to block off some site maintenance time now for a new update. I hope all my plug-ins are ready for it.
July 15, 2008 at 11:55 am
Any problems with certain browsers?
July 15, 2008 at 11:44 am
Haha! I am half British and I totally welcome the accent after living here for a year in the States! It’s a nice change of pace.
July 15, 2008 at 11:41 am
I have a few plugins like 10 or so so was wondering if anyone noticed any issues with theirs when they upgraded?
I know Joost posted a fix to wp_footer if I am not mistaken.
July 15, 2008 at 11:40 am
Bugs are no bueno! Other than the bug you have now Shoe how do you like the latest 2.5+ version of WordPress?
July 15, 2008 at 11:40 am
Do you use Wordpress or Wordpress MU? Does Wordpress MU include the new Wordpress version? Thanks!
July 15, 2008 at 11:36 am
This update was actually on that I appreciated. The revision option is great if you are in collaboration with someone. It is the best improvement in this update.
Shannon
July 15, 2008 at 11:30 am
I love that WP updates so much. they are f—ing ON IT!!!
July 15, 2008 at 11:19 am
That ‘British’ guy is actually South African
July 15, 2008 at 10:57 am
Let’s see how long before people figure out how to hack this verison!
July 15, 2008 at 10:54 am
I am so frustrated with Blogger. I know I need to switch, but afraid that I will muck it up fairly bad!
July 15, 2008 at 10:51 am
Too be fair though, It isn’t like Tony Blair would dare correct him
July 15, 2008 at 10:51 am
Continual development is what we need. Never ending improvements and updates.
July 15, 2008 at 10:48 am
I preferred the old dashboard better than this new one.
I know the old one was clunkier, but I just preferred it.
July 15, 2008 at 9:59 am
It does seem like a lot of updates but I guess it is good that they are actively improving the product.
July 15, 2008 at 9:50 am
its pretty annoying when they bring out updates to wp every few weeks.
July 15, 2008 at 9:33 am
Love the press this” improvement in particular.
Ronda
July 15, 2008 at 9:26 am
Thanks for the heads-up. Gotta love the SVN update, quick and easy! Anybody else not get notified via the release notification mailing list?
July 15, 2008 at 9:24 am
Pleased because of new and improve features make our tasks easy, also a miserable thing to do update a handful of blogs!
July 15, 2008 at 9:18 am
I’m already tired of all these new wordpress versions..
July 15, 2008 at 9:12 am
Looks like a nice release. As far as exploits, I am not sure this was a security release? Or am I wrong?
July 15, 2008 at 9:11 am
I’m trademarking the term “Terdpress”
July 15, 2008 at 9:08 am
Time to update the server to make sure all sites get this option in fantastico
July 15, 2008 at 9:05 am
And the problem with the British narration is…?
I’m impressed that you went with British instead of just English though, clearly you’ve travelled more than your erstwhile President !!!
July 15, 2008 at 9:03 am
Why not ask your host to just upgrade the wordpress platform in cpanel section, and it becomes easier for you to upgrade through one click, only if you are using cpanel hosting.
July 15, 2008 at 9:03 am
I upgraded some hours ago. Hopefully nobody publishes a WP 2.6 exploit.
July 15, 2008 at 8:59 am
upon further review now it always only shows 0 comments awaiting moderation…. so dunno wtf..
July 15, 2008 at 8:57 am
Thanks for the update. Gonna go do it now as not to forget.
July 15, 2008 at 8:55 am
I wish there was some kind of wordpress subscription service that would make upgrades happen automatically! It’s a bummer when you have more than a handful of blogs to update…
July 15, 2008 at 8:53 am
Well, looks like I’ll have to upgrade!
July 15, 2008 at 8:52 am
Just upgraded myself. I like the word count feature and I think I’m going to try the “Press This” feature.
July 15, 2008 at 8:52 am
As always thanks for the update! However the video isn’t working for me.
July 15, 2008 at 8:50 am
I like turbo “Gears’” and word count in this version..So..what do you think about integrated “Google Gear” and Wordpress, how it can be give a big huge to SEO
July 15, 2008 at 8:45 am
yep that was the issue in the 2.5.1 quick update…
But here, you see a box showing no. of active plugins in the right side? It shows as 11 active but actually 21 plugins are active in my blog.
You see something like that?
July 15, 2008 at 8:43 am
Good to hear that!
July 15, 2008 at 8:42 am
I Like with “Turbo” Gears and Word Count features on this version
July 15, 2008 at 8:41 am
hope it would also fix my thread comments issue on my blog too…
July 15, 2008 at 8:39 am
Cool, gives me something to do tonight.
July 15, 2008 at 8:37 am
I already blogged about it but thanks for the news
July 15, 2008 at 8:36 am
It actually fixed my issue of having comments in moderation displaying inaccurately
July 15, 2008 at 8:34 am
I just upgraded to 2.5.1 on Friday. Well… I guess I need to find time to do another upgrade. Thanks!
July 15, 2008 at 8:29 am
I already upgraded and blogged about it
Good that all plugins are working, but plugin count in w-admin does not show up correctly..
Word count, press this are all some good new additions
July 15, 2008 at 8:25 am
Wow! Great.. Thanks for the news. I am leaving to Wordpress.org…
