The domain webmaters.org is for sale on Sitepoint. As of the writing of this post the bid is currently at $9,000.00 USD.
The site posted earnings of like $6,000 which to me is really irrelevant. The value of the domain “webmasters.org” is the primary asset for sale.
The site is a pr7 and after looking at some of the sites internal strongest pages using one of our webmaster tools you can see most of the links are going to the sites directory which is a pr6.

This is a good sign because IMO the directory is where I would try to monetize this site with subscription for premium listings or listings in general.
Using other tools we can see the pagerank does flow throughout the site pretty well so it does appear to be valid.
The only negative to this site is its .org TLD. I have had a lot of talks with my good friend (and sleeper domain expert) Aaron Wall about picking up .org domains and they seem to go for 5-10% of what the .com’s of similar name go for.
Using Archive.org you can see the history of this domain is pretty clean. Does not look like anything was ever there that would hurt the reputation of it with users or search engines.
If you pin me down I would estimate this domain to be worth 50-100k
For someone who knows how to create a good subscription service for webmasters that could easily be a monthly profit within a year or so.

was sold for more than 6000$, but its look very simple, not worthy for this money
March 3, 2009 at 7:18 am
I dont think this domain will go less then 6000$
October 21, 2008 at 12:07 pm
How can a site like that, with so small back links and content to achieve a PR 7?!
July 17, 2008 at 7:46 pm
I dont like .orgs but if I had the money I would pick it up
July 13, 2008 at 11:58 am
9 million! nobody will give that amount of money.
July 12, 2008 at 5:37 pm
I think the domain’s value is nothing over 50k, and that a little pushed. It has a great value for someone that would be ready to build up a subscription forum. Shoe what’s your quick appraisal for ModernPerson.com ? Grabbed this domain a few days ago.Sounds interesting to me, There are also 129 million results in google for the terms “modern person”.
July 12, 2008 at 7:53 am
Okay, so on today, the 12th of June 2008 the top bid is sitting at $38000. Think it will go up more?
July 12, 2008 at 7:50 am
It is currently on $38000!!!! Looking good!
July 11, 2008 at 5:45 am
Difficult to say how much money the buyer pays. Everything will depend on its ability and common sense.
July 10, 2008 at 9:51 pm
I dunno I am always of the mind that you should build a great site first and worry about the name somewhere along the line.. paying $60k without a strategy is pretty insane unless thats chump change 4 u.
July 10, 2008 at 4:38 pm
Wow, that would be awesome, thats either a lot of cash or hard work.
July 10, 2008 at 4:32 pm
I think it is so exciting to see where it all goes. I still just cannot understand how they going to sell the new TLD’s
July 10, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Interesting take on TLD’s, going to be interesting though. I assume that .google will have great credibility.
July 10, 2008 at 1:40 pm
$38k is not bad for webmasters.org , the domain name is very nice
July 10, 2008 at 11:59 am
already at $38k…I don’t think that it will be sold for far more than this.
July 10, 2008 at 10:18 am
Now $38000 is more than enough for it.. which is the present bid.
July 10, 2008 at 2:28 am
I also bought combative.org to speculate in the popularity of MMA ..
How much do you think a domain like that is worth, currently?
July 10, 2008 at 12:34 am
Yea, but lets not forget that it is a .org domain!
July 9, 2008 at 3:02 pm
How much do you bid J?
July 9, 2008 at 9:19 am
I think you’re way off this thing is going higher than 50k. It’s got lots of time left and currently at 37k
July 9, 2008 at 9:10 am
Pr7… the magic numbers…
I dream of a site with pr7…
July 9, 2008 at 12:21 am
what subscription service would you do that could earn 50000 a month also he has to get traffic where does that all come from
July 8, 2008 at 11:55 pm
I wonder how the pr7 will fare with the new owners!
July 8, 2008 at 9:48 pm
37k now that’s amazing. this is a great post i find myself checking the status often.
July 8, 2008 at 4:34 pm
I think it will be sold below $50,000. But thats just a guess
July 8, 2008 at 4:32 pm
that is a huge sum. I doubt if it will get sold at that price. But cannot really say. It is already at $37000. The seller is rich now hehe.
July 8, 2008 at 4:31 pm
We made a guess
July 8, 2008 at 4:31 pm
PR 7 domain. Wow. Hope the seller gets the best deal. Good Luck to him. The domain has the potential too.
July 8, 2008 at 3:13 pm
I don’t see that kind of value for that domain — except to resell it later for a profit. It’s called the greater fool theory — if I am a fool and pay too much, I need to find a greater fool when I sell.
As for developing a domain for webmasters you could easily do the same thing with a generic brandable domain.
July 8, 2008 at 12:50 pm
I dont think this domain will go less then 80000$
July 8, 2008 at 11:29 am
Finally a good example of how to break down the price of a Domain! Hope your tools become available soon!
July 8, 2008 at 9:17 am
Shoemoney – Where did you see the site earnings of $6000? On SitePoint they are listed as $25/month…
July 8, 2008 at 7:50 am
It’s just a start, we are going to see hell many Greatt Domains getting sold in next few months.
Reason: The probable advent of new TLDs like web[dot]masters

July 8, 2008 at 12:13 am
actually, .org’s have a stronger tendency to outrank a .com on Google.
July 7, 2008 at 11:59 pm
9K seems like an awfully big risk on a domain name to me.
July 7, 2008 at 11:46 pm
Where did you see a $6000/month profit? I thought the monthly profit was $25…
July 7, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Good luck with the sale Chad. Even if you don’t get a bid you are happy with it is surely to get it eventually. If it doesn’t sell at SP check with some of the larger live auction houses
July 7, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Not fair! You weren’t supposed to win that too!!! lol

demandbeg to be added to this elite group for testing. I write a mean testimonial as wellJuly 7, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Well, in this case it would be unlikely for webmasters.org to ever rank #1 for webmasters. It has to beat the dot com and apparently Google, which is claiming the top 2 spots from my datacenter.
July 7, 2008 at 5:43 pm
.org isnt a good thing but i think in this field it would be fine
webmasters will bookmark it anyway
July 7, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Hey this is Chad the owner, thanks for all the interest guys. I set a really high reserve just because sitepoint legally bounds you to sell if you don’t have a reserve. I am willing to sell for much less then my reserve. It was more just to protect me legally or in case someone made an offer outside of sitepoint. Maybe that was dumb and I hope it doesn’t drive people away from bidding.
Thanks,
Chad
July 7, 2008 at 5:30 pm
Current Bid: $35,000
Reserve price not yet met
we are waiting
July 7, 2008 at 5:12 pm
yeah it will be interesting to see.
July 7, 2008 at 4:54 pm
No one knows how lucrative those new TLDs will be. My guess is that Google won’t treat them nearly as well as the established elite TLDS, making them not worth much.
July 7, 2008 at 3:16 pm
that’s a good domain name and with a good idea it can bring xxxx$ per months. But if it was .com it will be more better! I’ll take a look on the auction.
July 7, 2008 at 3:15 pm
It’s 19.999$ now, good price is coming!
July 7, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Don’t harp on the concept of PR. Webmasters.org is old and trusted, and presumably can be made to rank for more than it already is.
July 7, 2008 at 2:45 pm
I used to have a PR 7 in 04, I should have hung on to it, but I didn’t know that page rank would be so valuable. It used to be much easier to have a higher page rank and some of the crusty old domains have been able to maintain it.
July 7, 2008 at 2:41 pm
@Jason – right, but they aren’t “blogmaster” tools.
July 7, 2008 at 2:31 pm
The current bidding price is amazing. How did it get a PR of 7?
July 7, 2008 at 2:26 pm
ooops. dean hunt and I for the grammar nazis
July 7, 2008 at 2:25 pm
sorry. he already has me and dean hunt!!!
July 7, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Is this a wise investment with the opening up of the TLD`s.
(dot)webmasters could be quite lucrative, parking page at shoe(dot)money.
July 7, 2008 at 1:47 pm
we are actively developing it so you will probably see that until it is released.
July 7, 2008 at 1:43 pm
When I click on your webmaster tools link I get…
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘{‘ in /home/websites/tools/html/wp-content/themes/SWTC/tool_functions.inc on line 227
July 7, 2008 at 1:43 pm
Yup.
Again though for the right price…
July 7, 2008 at 1:38 pm
Wow, well it’s already twice of when you wrote this post. I’m eager to see how much this goes for.
July 7, 2008 at 1:32 pm
will also be keeping an evil eye on that sales thread
July 7, 2008 at 1:21 pm
gud tip shoe
July 7, 2008 at 1:10 pm
wow! i guess it will be selled for more than $50 000
July 7, 2008 at 12:49 pm
Just curious how far will the BID go
BTW Congrats for the baby, I just saw the pics
July 7, 2008 at 12:49 pm
I am sure you wouldn’t have posted it though if you were planning to buy it…
July 7, 2008 at 12:44 pm
This interesting i never thought you could have a profitable commercial .org
July 7, 2008 at 12:35 pm
You can bet if the price is right and nobody has purchased it I will. We currently have enough projects on our present and future plates but a deal is still a deal if the price is right.
July 7, 2008 at 12:33 pm
Not really its the tools we use internally for the last 6 years or so
July 7, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Do you need beta testers for that product?
July 7, 2008 at 12:29 pm
I was going to ask the same thing lol. Figured if you were planning to put in a bid you wouldn’t want/need the extra competition by posting about it lol.
Looks like an excellent opportunity. Thankfully I am way too small time to consider bidding but would love the chance at it.
July 7, 2008 at 12:21 pm
How do you know I haven’t =P
July 7, 2008 at 11:57 am
The bid is up to $16K at the moment and you probably right – just for the name it should raise at least $50K…
July 7, 2008 at 11:57 am
Why didn’t you make a bid, Shoe?
July 7, 2008 at 11:28 am
hm.. .org huh. i dont want to under estimate the.org, but i think they will score no more then $40k. now if someone would like to buy JackBook.Com
July 7, 2008 at 11:27 am
If you would sell it 10 times the profit…it would go as high as 60k. But as Shoe said… in this case the domain name has a certain value and a lot of factors have to be consider…
Will watch this bid! I wanna see the outcome.
July 7, 2008 at 11:12 am
I wonder how high this domain will go for?
