My wife went into labor at 5am this morning. On the way to the hospital I shot a quick twitter sms from my phone letting people know. I got back a error message but did not think that much about it because of all the issues especially with SMS.
So as I am sitting in the hospital room I am browsing the web on my phone I try to log into twitter and it tells me that my account has been deleted but I can restore it. So I try to restore it and it tells me that it is deleted because it was in violation of terms of service.
I will tell you I sent 1 spam through twitter and used the API as it is exactly spelled out. I added and deleted some people playing with the api a few weeks back seeing how it worked but have not messed with it since.
I have always been a huge advocate of twitter and we have raved about it on our show weekly. I also have implemented twitter on my blog as you can see in the top right corner.
One thing about having a very popular site is people try to make a quick buck and target you. It looks like within minutes of the account being deleted someone made this account
http://twitter.com/shoemoneymedia
and made it look like it was me. It is NOT me.
I remember a similar thing happened to Seth Godin not to long ago.
I have bigger fish to fry right now like my wife and our new baby who could be due at any minute but I just wanted to let people know.
Hopefully twitter will return my support requests.

its i guess 6 months old and I have yet to really find a purposeful use for twitter
October 2, 2009 at 12:26 pm
I definitely thought the same thing, but finally broke down and gave it a shot. It has produced an amazing amount of traffic to my blog by sharing quality, relevant news with my market.
People will also visit your main site when posted in your profile, so it is just another way to advertise your business while educating your market.

Jeremy is back, Congratulation.
July 9, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Just saw you following me Jeremy
Welcome back to Twitter!
July 7, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Any word on whether or not you’ll get your account back?
July 7, 2008 at 10:16 am
Man, everyone is crazy about TOS violations these days.
July 7, 2008 at 9:24 am
that is funny. best wishes
July 7, 2008 at 3:32 am
frightening how you can loose your identity online in an instant!
July 6, 2008 at 12:06 am
People’s life is a game. You can win a million dollars and loose it in five minutes. So everything is done for the better.
July 5, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Congrats Shoe, hope all goes well with the baby. LOL..I gotta say that only a true diehard IM’er would sit and fiddle with Twitter or the like on the way to the hospital
July 4, 2008 at 6:55 pm
Wow, that guy followed me and I guess I will unfollow. If you violate the Twitter TOS, they should send you a warning, not delete your account (especially a well-established one such as yours). With all the bad publicity Twitter is getting lately, this isn’t helping matters.
But on a happier note, congratulations on the baby and I hope everything went well
July 4, 2008 at 3:42 pm
i posted the fact that that new twitter account was a fake and everyone should help out and do the same!

July 4, 2008 at 4:51 am
Any news on the new arrival as of yet? Twitter needs to pull up their socks, they’re getting loads of negative publicity!
July 4, 2008 at 4:50 am
Something didn’t look right on your so-called new Twitter site so I came here just to double check before following. I’m sure everything will be up and running for you again on Twitter shortly. However, congrats on the arrival of the baby. Many blessings.

July 3, 2008 at 3:09 pm
I hate twitter, can’t delete posts, service is off line half the time, it’s slow, 140 chars limit is way to small…
July 3, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Jeremy, congratulations to you and your “growing” family. Such wonderful news.
-Tom S.
July 3, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Congrats on your new addition, I am a stay at home dad with 2 little ones. I do enjoy the challenge of trying to find that perfect balance between Dad and new blogger…
July 3, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Congratulations on your new arrival! Post pics real soon, OK!
As for Twitter……well……it seems to be sinking fast!
July 3, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Congrats,
Sounds like Twitter is the New MyBlogLog for you. All these Web 2.0 companies start out wide open, then try and crack down on spam and bogus accounts. If they just invested a little more time and efforts into creating a terms of service and acceptable use policies before going public stuff like this might not happen as often.

I’m sure your Twitter account will be back up in no time – until then, worry about your beautiful babe! Congratulations!
July 3, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Congratulations and I hope Twitter figures things out. I’m pregnant with #3 and already thinking about how to have my husband handle my sites for me when I’m in the hospital. These things have to happen when you have the least time for them!
July 3, 2008 at 2:21 pm
When you see your baby’s face, you will forget about Twitter (for a few hours)
July 3, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Congrats: Go have your baby the Internet will be here when you get back. Next is Grampa.
July 3, 2008 at 2:13 pm

July 3, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Congrats…..I have my first on the way HOPEFULLY in a week…my wife is getting antsy. And the dude who said spend time with your family needs to relax…..i doubt shoe will be texting and browsing the web when his wife is screaming in pain….there’s a big amount of down time with labor…esp. at the beginning.
July 3, 2008 at 1:58 pm
Devote your attention to Friendfeed instead. It’s gaining marketshare and will eventually overtake Twitter anyway.
July 3, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Congrats on the baby! Don’t worry, the Twitter thing will work itself out.
July 3, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Hay congrats! I hope your wife and the baby is fine now!
That guy did set everything up (including background etc.) just like you.
But I don’t think you should care much right now. Fudge ‘em. Be with your family. You can deal with that crack head later
All the best to you & your family. Do post up some pictures of the baby later. Cheers
July 3, 2008 at 1:43 pm

July 3, 2008 at 1:21 pm
If you are getting this kind of treatment, then I’m glad I was banned from adsense when competition uploaded porn profiles on my site and reported.
July 3, 2008 at 1:13 pm
Rock on man! Take care of that baby.
July 3, 2008 at 1:13 pm
Twitter seems to be having a lot of lately. To many tweets ect. Though I don’t use it I believe that it is a great concept. I guess they didn’t expect to blow up. I hope everything works out, I mean what would you do without it??!!?

July 3, 2008 at 12:43 pm
what kind of idiot pretends to be other people! im sure twitter will sort it for ya
July 3, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Shoe,
Step away from the electronics… It will be okay… Your family is more important than anything you could possibly be writing about. Twittering on the way to the hospital? Browsing the web from the hospital room? How about focusing a little more on family. Now, I sell smut for a living and probably should not be life coaching anybody, but for the love of Pete… Spend some time with your wife… you won’t have too many more of these moments unless you are irish catholic and plan on having a 20 pack of kids.
July 3, 2008 at 12:30 pm
I can sympathize with you… It always seems when something important in your family is going on, something shitty on the web happens to you… Never fails for me!
I’ll go on a family vacation… 3 hours into the trip I find out my server is under a denial of service attack. Never fails.
You have the right attitude… Put it on the back burner and spend time doing what is important in life.
July 3, 2008 at 12:20 pm
Good Luck Shoe or should I say Papa Shoe?
July 3, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Congratulations! My wife is pregnant too and I’m expecting to be a dad by the end of November. When I read the post, suddenly I thought about the day, when I’ll be on my was to the hospital
Cheers
