Last night my wife was on call so we stayed in and watched a DVD. We have several that are still unopened and we alternate choosing which ones to watch. My wife choose this movie called Lars and The Real Girl. I was like … great a chick flick. I knew nothing about it and the title turned me off. We started watching it and it was really slow.. like i was about to turn it off slow.. Basically the main character is this recluse who lives with his brother and sister in law in their garage. He orders a realdoll yes this realdoll then acts like its a living breathing person.
As stupid as it sounds the story is actually quite touching and I really enjoyed the movie. I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the review, on the face of it the movie sounds like it could be about some kind of perv or psycho, but maybe i will watch it after all.

Fight club was good, but if we are talking about action movies Gladiator is by far the best out there! Maximus Decimus Meridius

June 9, 2008 at 11:01 pm

My wife and I watched this the other night as well. Very funny and surprisingly touching.
thats right I’m a big softie. what about it =p.
June 9, 2008 at 11:57 am
Haha, the same happened to me!
I watched it about a month ago, and it was reaaaaally slow and I almost stopped watching it. But when I saw he bought that doll I thought “it’s ridiculous, I have to watch this”.
And after that (besides it still was beeing slow) I think the movie got interesting and even funny in some parts.

Good thing you don’t have Adsense on this blog any more. I could only imagine the ads that would be showing right now.

This was a great film, it could have just turned out to be more stupidity but it was done so well that it’s really worth the watch.

Fight Club was really good and the first Matrix movie was as well. You had no clue they were the same guy in Fight Club and you had no clue Neo was in a virtual world. Both great movies.

Shhhhhh, don’t tell the wife. Damn, to late, she reads Shoemoney too. I’ll take your word for it. I don’t mind a good flick. The Notebook surprised me cause I thought I’d fall asleep during it, but it turned out to be a cool flick.

My wife and I watched this on Friday night as well. A friend recommended and loaned it. I was really surprised and pleased. Very quiet and slow, but a great character movie. Well done, Ryan Gosling.
June 8, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Not as great as Fight Club! Come on! That had the best plot twist ever; they were the same man; that flipped my head more than The Matrix trilogy!

Spend less time on the internet then….or start ferquenting dating sites….it worked for Jeremy!

Ridiculous? Care to elaborate? sometimes the inane comments posted just for the sake of posting are actually quite ridiculous……
June 8, 2008 at 10:34 am
It seems to be a reccuring theme that ladies and wives pick this movie for their husbands/boyfriends to watch…

I kinda liked Indiana Jones! I mean it was exactly what I what I expected it to be. Wasnt great, wasnt bad!
June 8, 2008 at 9:00 am
I watched this last week (my wife picked it as well). I had no idea about the story line beforehand and it was actually not too bad. Had some funny moments and you actually kind of start to think of the doll as a person after a while.
June 8, 2008 at 8:39 am
Sounds better than F*****g Indiana Jones
June 8, 2008 at 5:27 am
So is this a modern, more socially unnacceptable version of “Mannequin”? That movie and porky’s are the only ways to remember kim cattrall, not the horned out cougar from that hbo show. I cannot, in good conscience even mention the name of that show.

Sounds sweet! Thanks for sharing, Jeremy. Your wife on call already?

I must admit this is the last place I thought I’d find a link to a “Doll” site. But of course it’s only for illustrative purposes with regards to the movie

my lady friend also invited to watch it last thursday and i just declined her offer…
June 7, 2008 at 10:03 pm
I guess this wasn’t a really popular movie because I never heard of it. Was it in the theaters or was this just a straight to DVD movie?

My wife and I last 30 minutes then turned it off. Slow is an understatement
June 7, 2008 at 8:32 pm
If you want to watch a great movie check out “The Greatest Gift” now that is a great movie.
June 7, 2008 at 7:01 pm
Netflix sent me this past week, so I watched it. Though well done, it might be the least believable movie I’ve ever seen. Both my wife and I give it a big thumbs down.
June 7, 2008 at 6:03 pm
I wasn’t aware The Real Doll had an affiliate program.
June 7, 2008 at 5:42 pm
You call this a review….mmm….
June 7, 2008 at 5:41 pm
i had almost the exact same experience when i watched this movie it was so slow that i almost turned it off but then by the end i really liked it. definitely not a movie for people that have to have all action all the time.
June 7, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Wow…I think this qualifies for weirdest post ever.
June 7, 2008 at 5:34 pm
Heh lol. Wish I have a wife
June 7, 2008 at 5:11 pm
It’s funny though. For my wife and I, it was the opposite. I picked it, and she was hesitant to watch.
We both really liked it a lot though.
June 7, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Howard Stern talked about this movie. He said it was great because of the use of the real doll, but horible movie all together!
June 7, 2008 at 2:17 pm

will help me pass the weekend
June 7, 2008 at 2:10 pm

June 7, 2008 at 1:53 pm
My usually picks sucky movies. I’m like Rambo was sitting right there on the shelf and you still managed to pick a sucky movie.
June 7, 2008 at 1:35 pm
i forgot to say about the movie. I heard it from a friend of mine and its really good to watch. The actor Ryan Gosling ihas been acting great last a couple of years.
June 7, 2008 at 1:33 pm

June 7, 2008 at 1:13 pm
