UFC84 BJ Penn VS Sean Sherk
First of all if you don’t already have your picks in on fighters.com you need to do it right now. No more Sunday morning “I told you so”. Also there are a ton of great prizes you can win. Including a all expense paid trip for you and a friend for UFC86!
Ok… here we go.
BJ Penn Vs Sean Sherk
What a great match up.
First lets look at Sean Sherk:
He has been undefeated in the UFC at 155lbs. In fact he has only lost to 9 time welterweight champion of the world 170lb Matt Hughes and the Current welterweight champion of the world George St Pierre. Sherk has never been knocked out of submitted.
BJ Penn - BJ has unreal Brazilian Jujitsu skills and is a world champion in BJJ. BJ has lost to the same fighters as Sherk (Matt Hughes and GSP). The biggest weakness for BJ has always been his cardio. He comes out and kicks ass the first 2 rounds but then gasses. He also not had a very big win since submitting Matt Hughes almost 5 years ago.
Verdict: I really like BJ Penn but I just don’t think he is any different now then he has been in the past. I just see sherk being very aggressive with BJ and inflicting some serious ground and pound damage. I look for BJ to gas by the 3rd round and Sherk will win by ref stoppage due to strikes.
Bet: No action.
Wanderlei Silva vs Keith Jardeen
Keith Jardeen has a crazy unorthodox style that throws off everyone he fights. I feel he did a great job against Chuck Liddell getting some great leg kicks in early taking off a lot of Chucks power later in the fight. I think this also showed Silva what NOT to do. Silva needs to be aggressive get inside and do some bodywork in the clinch.
Verdict: I look for Silva to win in the 2nd round by TKO
Bet: 2U on Silva to Win.
Tito Ortiz has not had a impressive win for over 8 years. Tito is also massively distracted with a big new shiney contract from aonther organization mixed with his clothing line and tons of other crap. He has not been a serious fighter for a long time.
Then Cross the river with Machida is undefeated and just moving down contenders. He has great takedown defense and also has a really active and impressive guard.
Verdict: I think Tito’s only chance is to get a 1st round take down and inflict some serious damage on the ground and try to get a stoppage. I think machida’s kicks and strikes will take the power out of Ortiz to get a later take down. I like Machida to win by decision (in a boring fight).
Bet: 1u on machida

Ah, sorry but your blog and fighting doesn’t go good together, I dont have any idea who the heck are these giant people.
Gonna have to go with Sean Sherk on this one over BJ Penn. Why? Because we dont’ like Penn.
Tito Ortiz? Pfft, go back to chilling in the audience with your toothpick girlfriend and call it a day. Have never been a fan of his, find him completely arrogant. Anyone remember the fight with him and Forrest Griffin? Griffin should have one that fight fair and square.
And Silva and Jardeen. To be honest we have no idea who is going to take that fight.
Guess we’ll see….
hah! I was scanning my feeds, and thought this said ‘UFC - Sean Penn vs So and So. . .’
I already did my picks for fighters over there… do not send me to UFC86… if I see Matt Hughes in person, I might die. Especially if it is while getting his ass kicked by Thiago (forgive me Matt!!!)… I think our pics are pretty in sync this time as discussed on Tweet.
I wouldn’t mind rolling to UFC86. I will have to stroll over to fighters and get my winz on…
Its been going together for about 3 years now
So, do you actually put any money on the line for this?
hey ! what’s this all ’bout…..
good post! learning from you!
i want to know how you make money from your blog?
You’re right on 2 of those picks, but no way that sherk will beat Penn….and if sherk does beat penn, he’s not going to beat him due to strikes…the guy can’t finish fights. I go with BJ Penn via rear naked choke in the 3rd…you heard it here!
The only sure bet is to bet against whoever Shoemoey likes. It never fails! Unfortunately, you didn’t ante up against Penn despite liking Sherk. I can’t see Sherk beating a top-caliber fighter such as Penn especially when you consider the long layoff Sherk’s had. Plus, the reader above noted so eloquently that IF Sherk is going to win, it won’t be by strikes. Penn is by far the most technical fighter in the sport. Once he beats Sherk, he’ll fight GSP and then call it quits. In fact, he should’ve won that GSP fight the first time around. Great card all the way around. Can’t wait!
You’re very wrong about sherk / penn. The last 2 fights against Pulver and Stevenson Penn has come in in much better shape. His cardio is much better now, and he is taking his conditioning very seriously.
Look to the weigh-ins to give an indication of Penn’s conditioning and how much Sherk’s body has changed now that he’s off the juice.
I have to agree with you on Tito. Sometimes, it is better to just leave when you on top or distracted than continue to attempt to do things half-heartedly.
How can you compare washed up Jens and newcomer Joe Daddy to who sherk has fought Hermes and Florian. Cmon
Wow shoe, I couldnt disagree with you more! I see BJ winning this one.
While I agree you cant compare sherk to Jens and Joe, its not that he beat them, it is how he beat them! And not to mention that BJ has some amazing TDD, which could be the key to this fight!
Most people won’t know this but, ironically, Penn once lost to Machida outside the Octagon. Penn left the UFC and pretty much dominated every opponent he fought until Machida. Machida should handle Tito rather easily as it’s Tito’s last fight in UFC and possibly in MMA.
There’s definitely no comparison with Sherk to Jens and Joe, however, this will be Sherk’s first fight not on juice. It probably will be to his benefit that he’s clean because now he has more to prove.
Cardio wise, BJ Penn can’t much up to Sherk. However, this fight isn’t going the distance either way.
all that fighters are strong it’s very hard to take a decision and make the choice !
“I just see sherk being very aggressive with BJ and inflicting some serious ground and pound damage. I look for BJ to gas by the 3rd round and Sherk will win by ref stoppage due to strikes.”
Serious damage???
Sherk has possibly the worst striking from any top level fighter in the game today. In this game you can never say never, but it would be a one in a million if Sherk were to finish BJ with strikes.
In his last 10 fights he’s finished one with strikes. against someone with a 9-7 record.
Sherk’s only chance is to hold BJ down and lay ‘n pray his way to a victory. I don’t see him managing that as BJ’s jiujitsu is too strong.
I agree with your other picks, but on this one I need to say you are crazy
Sherk was cheating when he fought them both though so its hard to get a true indication.
first hermes franca in alot of peoples minds may have won that fight second florian and joe daddy in a fight i would have to give it to joe daddy don’t forget bj has a bjj in a league of it’s own and you can’t compare any of sherks lay and pray wins against bj you even heard it from dana white himself bj is the pound for pound best also bj has better stand up and he is the most active fighter off his back but put shrek i mean sherk on his back you have your winner
It’s like McDonalds adding some “healthy”
choices to their menu. It doesn’t mean you have to buy them, you can still come for the Big Mac’s and Quarter Pounders with Cheese
Plus, strolling through a series of so-so interesting blogs landed me here only because I saw a UFC post. Then I took the time to scan the site and will be a regular visitor. You see, MMA fans can read too.
I agree about BJ gassing, but unless Sherk has figured out a way to keep using the juice and still pass the pee test, I see BJ walking away with the belt.
Sup Shoemoney! Since I can’t win my own game at MyFantasyMMA.com, I’ll try and win yours. Are the rules for the game located anywhere on the site? How are points calculated.
Thanks,

I think BJ vs Sherk basically comes down to BJ’s conditioning and desire to win. Sherk wont do any damage to BJ and his only chance of winning is a judges decision. IE 5 rounds of ground and pound. I could defo se BJ winning this by submission.
I agree with you on wandy. I think hes had some unnessary pressure put on him by recent comments from Dana saying hes gotta win to stay around. Im pretty sure we will see the best wandy we have seen in a while.
tito vs machida. I think machida has this on paper but i think we will see the best tito we have seen in a while due to him caring a ton about his value to other orgs if he loses this. Plus i think he wants to say “fuck you” to dana more then he wants to win. My prediction for this is tito winning round 1 via gnp. Then machida getting a tko round two.
wow cool stuffs.
I am gaining interest in UFCs.. will be adding some videos.
Ahhh… it feels good to be correct! WAR BJ!
Aaaaargh! Once again these events aren’t available live in South Africa!
This whole card was quite easy to predict…I imagine people who know MMA made a good amount of money on this. Jardine and Sherk are both grossly overrated, and I had the house on Machida winning a decision. Looking forward to the next event….get your money in on Hazelett and Almeida quick!
