Schoemaker 4th Aniversary

Posted on: May 22nd, 2008 by Jeremy Schoemaker

*WARNING SAPPY ALERT *WARNING SAPPY ALERT *WARNING SAPPY ALERT *WARNING SAPPY ALERT*

4 years ago today I got married in St. Cecilia’s Cathedral in Omaha, NE. to J. Elizabeth Huebert. Its pretty easy for me to remember our aniversary because it was 9 days before I turned 30. Our wedding was pretty magical. My wife planned everything. We got married at this enormous cathedral then after the wedding we went by white horse and buggy drawn carrages to the Embassy Suites downtown where we had our reception. It was really such a awesome day. Honestly it was probably one of the best days of my life. Sappy…. I know. Most people say the birth of their child was the happiest day of their life… not for me that was like the scariest day of my life. Not because their was anything wrong but I just had this amazing feeling of terror like OMG WHAT DID I DO. Anyway…

So if I may… let me tell you a little about my wife. J was born in Miami and later moved to Rural Nebraska. She graduated high school then went to school at St. Johns philosophy school in New Mexico. She studied all the great books and when she finished her undergrad she got a full scholorship to the Chicago School Of Business to get her MBA. After 1 summer she decided Business was not for her so she went to Medical School instead at the University of Nebraska. She graduated medical school and then volunteered for almost 1 full year in Nigeria (yes Africa). When she came back she had decided that she was going to go into Anesthesia but before she could she had to do a transitional year of family practice.

This is when she had some jackass named Jeremy Schoemaker respond to her Yahoo Dating Ad saying what a great guy he was etc etc… I wont go into the details… well I will tell you something funny I actually had written a script to email every girl within a 30 mile radius with a default message… I know… yea…

Anyway she responded with something like “Dear (something bad) If you think I am the type of girl who will respond to some stupid form letter you have another thing coming” It was pretty harsh she totally had my number. I wrote back trying to say OHH NO you got it all wrong but she had me nailed dead to rights.

Long story short sometime later we finally went on a date. Keep in mind I was 420 LBS, broke as a joke (like 50k in debt). I drove a early 90’s Ford Van that I bought from my parents and I smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day. I was REALLY nervous for our first date. I mean I was WAY out of my league. I am going out with this beautiful young doctor about to set the world on fire. I picked her up and she immediately looked pissed. She said omg you smoke I cant date a smoker… I was like OHH NO I JUST QUIT ACTUALLY… Which is pretty much true. That was the last time (its been 7+ years ago) that I smoked more then 3 cigs in a day. Occasionally I have fired one up at a conference while throwing back some drinks but really that was the day I quit smoking for all intents and purposes.

We dated for the next 6 months and had a absolute blast. We really enjoyed each other’s company and loved getting to know each other. She soon moved back to Omaha where she was going to enter her anesthesia program and I stayed in Des Moines, IA working for Wells Fargo Bank. We continued that for the next 2 years. Every weekend I drove to Omaha. It was about a 2 hour drive but not that bad.

Then I got canned from Wells Fargo and she encouraged me to run my own company full time. I moved to Omaha and J’s mom Susan (now my full-time right hand employee) loaned me 5k in seed money to start buying computers to resell on eBay. It was really a scary but fun time. I was able to pay that back and kept developing Nextpimp full time. (there also was a short stint at another Omaha bank in there somewhere… ) We got married May 22nd, 2004.

My wife really showed me what it means to have a work ethic. It was all the difference for me. Over the next couple years she continued then finally finished her residency. We moved to Lincoln where she joined a private practice group and 2 years ago in June we had a baby. We are going to have another one in July.

My wife is truly my best friend. The cool thing is she knows nothing about my business or the internet (technically speaking). She still has a LOT of problems with basic technology (like the household remote control) but she believes in me and that was all I needed. She never reads my blog but I have a feeling she might see this post.

I love you J. The last 4 years have been truly amazing. Here is to many more.

I’m always in awe at how she continues to have faith in me, no matter what happens, and how much our love grows everyday. So I kinda now what your talking about. Congrats again man.

Congrats Shoe! Even though I am not the marrying type (LOL), I can always appreciate a good marriage. Your wife went to St. Johns? I have always thought I would have loved to have gone there. She sounds like a real go-getter. Man, 2 packs a day!? You ever burn anything else, Shoe?

Damn that all happened so fast. You make 2004 seem like it was last week. As sappy as it may seem, messages like this are important, they show people another side of you. It’s what’s underneath that makes you who you are, not the flash and cash (although cash is sweet). Have a great Memorial Day Weekend with the family!
