WordPress 2.5.1 Comment Bug (awaiting moderation)

by Jeremy Schoemaker on May 12, 2008 · 38 comments

I have a really really weird bug with comments that started immediately after updating from 2.5 to 2.5.1. Pretty much it always shows that I have comments awaiting moderation… yet I dont.

Here is a screenshot:

Wordpress 2.5.1 bugs

I do use wpcache but the bug is there with or without it enabled. I have searched and no body else seems to be experiencing it. Any ideas? =P

For the 1st time in a long time I had pure WP hell this weekend getting installs completed. Tried downloads from site, installs via fantastico, manual tweeks, and all failed. In the end deleted all installs and will start again on different server. Odd since no problems with 2.5 installs on same server.

I do have a wp 2.51 running with wpcache and experiencing no comment problems on that. Could it be one of your other plugins (gravatars) causing the problem?

sometimes on our blog we have to approve comments multiple times before they will show on posts. Not sure why that is either because it happens “sometimes” not all the time.

After deleting comments it shows some still in que – that irritates me.

Does it still stay there after you’ve logged out and log back in too?

I haven’t had this problem happen with the new wordpress, but I’ve had issues with the image uploader for some reason.

I’m still not sure I like the new interface over the old one. In some ways it is quicker but in some ways it’s not. The old way was so comfortable – 2.5 is a bit like trying to reinvent the wheel.

I dislike the newer version of WP. I have heard that even numbered releases are more stable than odd. Most programmers follow that rule. 2.5.1 is odd, and obviously unstable :P

Cookies? Browser Cache? is the default Wordpress Cache in wp-config enabled? —–> define(‘ENABLE_CACHE’,true);

Do you use 2.5 or you have already updated to 2.5.1?

Here’s an idea:

Don’t upgrade to new Wordpress branch till they release x.x.2

I am using 2.5 in one blog and updated to 2.5.1 in the other.
Found 2.5 to be better.

I use Spam Karma, I figured out this number was the number of comments that it thought was spam, but Akismet said it wasn’t, so it wanted me to yea or nea it. Dunno if you are using that too. SK2 is awesome.

I’m having a really mixed experience with 2.5 in general.

But try Defensio for a good anti-spam plugin — it works with 2.5, I don’t know about 2.5.1, though.

I am still on 2.5.0 and I sometimes see this as well, but then if I move my mouse over the number it sometimes fades away…

my suggestion is to apply wp version 2.5 because 2.5.1 is version which too in a hurry published by wp so that there are still bug which has not been finalized.

Sometimes it’s better to wait a wee bit before upgrading. Another sterling, albeit more extreme, example is Windows XP vs Vista.

I haven’t had that problem, but I had a worse one: one of my blogs got hacked as soon as I upgraded! My freaking hosting service was just like “yep, it got hacked,” when I asked them about it. Scorching-hot emails full of demands that they at least tell me how and how to prevent it are pending….

I haven’t run into that yet, but since upgrading to 2.5.1, I’ve had two comments never show up anywhere–except for in the email telling me there was a new comment. One of the times, WP sent me 4 or 5 emails telling me about the same comment. Maybe it’s an unrelated fluke, but it seemed odd since I’ve never had it happen before, then twice with the newest version.

Hey Jeremy,

I found this at Wordpress so you can check it out and see if it will help you or not. If it does you can post an update in your post just in case someone is searching for the answer online ;-)

I guess you just have to stick with 2.5?

Maybe wp 2.5.1 has not been tested with a blog having average comments of about 40 to 50 per post? lol…

Did you ever get this resolved Jeremy?

If not did you try what was posted at the link in the post at May 14, 2008 12:02 am above?

That could be a pain, always thinking you have more work then you actually have.
