WordPress 2.5 soon to be released

by Jeremy Schoemaker on March 29, 2008 · 38 comments

there is a teaser page on all the features of wordpress 2.5 today on the wordpress blog. I suspect 2.5 will be released tomorrow or on the 30 or 31st of this month.

I have been holding off on doing some big changes to this blog until after 2.5 was released. I am going to goto registered only comments at some time in the next month or so which probably sounds like a hassle but be assured there are major benefits coming with this too.

You should really read that blog post to see all the changes. 2.5 is a major milestone and there are a TON of new and improved things. Looking good.

hmm never been in the email biz and never want to be… if I wanted to I could just export all the emails of anyone who has ever made a comment.

only a sob would think of that ;)

Hearing a lot about this today with wordcamp going on in Dallas. Never like doing those upgrades early, will likely setup on a new blog and test from there.

What’s the point to upgrade?

Isn’t there enough features for you? You want more? All I see is problems with templates, plugins, more bugs + messed up admin panel.

I have read a few reviews elsewhere as many have already upgraded and there were no problems at all.
There are many benefits to upgrading, but not everyone has to upgrade if they don’t want to ;-)
This upgrade looks very much worth it though!

I’ll be waiting one or two weeks until they have released the bugfixed version of WP. Am I the only one that feels it’s saver to wait?

You have inspired me to do my own blog and I am currently working with unique blog design. I hope it won’t be to expensive. I believe that I have a great idea for a blog plus it is something that really interests me so I know the content will be great. I will shoot you an email or something to see what you think if you find any time.

lol,

Then you can sell our info to that guy you’re going up against in the TAC. Registered users seems like a good idea tho. Didn’t you say somewhere you’re going to Gravatars too?

Agreed Anty – the bleeding edge is where some love to be. For me, I prefer to get the run in unit with a few miles on the clock.

You may want to wait for the upgrade. There are a couple bugs. But I guess if you dont mind doing all the patchwork yourself, go for it.

The biggest problem is with IE 7 and image uploads. The new uploader doesnt play nice with IE 7. I never noticed, because I use a mac, but all my clients running IE almost killed me when I upgraded them.

I found a fix though. If you are having the same problem, here’s the fix: http://www.icastlimited.com/2008/03/31/wordpress-25-image-upload-problem/

Wow, the new version is very cool – I install it over version 2.3.3 (it’s easy – Upgrade Manual)…

But new admin panel – not good – i found Fluence Admin (no ad – it’s really nice theme)

Combined wth the new Ebay system anyone anyone who combines Wordpress and Ebay auctions to pay the bills is going to have an interesting month.

So far so good on the 2.5 front it seems with no one talking about any problems really. The image uploader is the the first one I’ve read about. We’ll see how it goes over the next week as more people upgrade.
