Weird Bugs In My Blog

By Jeremy Schoemaker 47 comments

So few bugs that bother me that are not really my fault but …. still bugs me.

Feedburner always shows 7 comments on a post and never more. Its never accurate. Dunno why =(

If you are on a Mac and using Firefox there is a weird bug where if you view a post with like 300 comments (good thing there is only like 10) it will crash Firefox. This only happens on the MacOSX with Firefox and not the windows version. It also looks like its a javascript thing with brians threaded comments plugin.

I am looking forward to the wordpress 2.5 release and plan on changing up the comments a little bit to use gravatars (built into 2.5)

BTW happy easter!

I always get annoyed when i start to read the comments, then the bottom of the page loads a second later and scrolls me down to the bottom, when there is a lot of comments it gets annoying. Windows/Firefox

Bugs in a blog are always preferable to bugs in a blogger.

The feedburner comments are cached (at who knows what intervals) so they’re almost never accurate. Not sure why 7 is the cap tho.

This is not the first time Feedburner reflects the wrong info. The last time it was subscribers count…

I heard a rumor about Apple and Firefox, they supposedly are bugging Firefox to force to their users to use Safari. I don’t believe that but still being a possibility, I use linux and I haven’t that problem.

Wow - speaking of weird bugs! Shortly after commenting I noticed that my comments were the first and only ones appearing at the time. A few hours later, John and Ryan’s comments appear retroactively to be listed before mine. John and Ryan I hope your nose isn’t bleeding like the Irishman and Radio Operator on the freighter that’s heading for the Lost island. If it is, be careful and please can you tell Kate that I’ll meet her at the airport when she returns (but don’t let Sawyer hear you saying that). Cheers.

One of my blogs has this bug that makes it impossible to go into the comment moderation page. I had to install a new comment system (intense debate) to be able to moderate any further comments. The 50+comments that already existed were forever lost.

Every site has bugs, so don’t worry about it. Many scripts aren’t intended to have this much traffic and recieve so many comments. Happy Easter!

I was disappointed in brian’s threaded comments myself. I haven’t had that problem (since I never get to 300 comments) but I installed it at the same time as a plugin that lets people edit their own comments and i’m not seeing any threading at all.

It’ll be great to see all the new features that will be implemented in 2.5 and I’m looking forward to it as well.

I’m not lucky enough to get 300 comments on my blog so no one will have that crashing problem problem on mine. ;-)

Weird bugs in your blog? Like, do you mean your readers ? I am one of the weirdest, to be sure. Thanks for this post and this great resource Jeremy. I have quickly become a fan. Just another question - a bit of a “derrrr” question. Your cheque, like, I cant find your adsense adds in this blog? Have I missed something - would not be the first time. Thanks.

How do find out about bugs like this. Do people email you and tell you about them or do you manually have to test for them and with differnet computers because that must take ages?
