When I just started my blog and was new to everything, I had no idea that a link in the comments was frowned upon. If they add value it’s one thing, but most are blatant promotion attempts. I don’t leave links in comments anymore at all now though. Just playing it safe… don’t want to offend…

I, too, have moderation enforced but only for comments containing links. It’s not a common way of commenting, but I’m experiencing lots of spam lately.

I experienced spamming in my blog, so I always moderate the incoming comment after that

I have a personal pet peeve for when people put a spammy phrase as their “name” in comments. I’d much rather see a comment on my blog with the commenters name listed clearly, so that if I want to address them, I can do it personally.

I agree…unless you have a post entirely relevant to the post you are commenting on…something that will answer other commenters questions, etc. And what about linking to another relevant website seperate from your site. I think URLS in comments are acceptable in certain situations.
