For me, AdSense was the best so far.

Excellent tips in the video. I think it is important for bloggers and webmasters in general to try out the different advertising options available, before they can truly determine which one works best for them. Many times it may even be a combination of several, but great advice as usual, thanks.

I agree completely with ditching AdSense. Getting my account frozen was the best thing to ever happen. I make far more money now that I don’t bother with it.

It was pretty basic stuff, but I did find it useful for your to confirm that adsense sucks for blogs. I’ve been debating whether to use it on mine or not for a while now.

That guy who was interviewing you was amking me nervous with his rapid hand movement. I thought he was either hexing you or getting ready to launch a fireball at you. I think he was just nervous. Thanks for the useful information. – BK

Dude, that’s called fraud! You got 130 bucks and kicked out of Adsense for life, that doesn’t sound like a good pay day to me.

Yeah, I know. I was saying that even though he made that large amount of money with Adsense, he still prefered the other ways of making money with his blog ;-)

Shoe, I enjoyed the interview. I also wanted to let people know about my first contest…..good chance of winning $50. They can click on my name for info, and I’ll send the link directly to you.
    Keep up the good work!

…Uh…They have pretty good algorithms to know that a new site would never get that amount of clicks…surprised they even paid that first month!

Great interview. We do some adsense on our site thought it is not a blog we do okay. If anyone has some suggestions about how to increase that profit please let me know. I couldn’t afford to go to Shoe’s retreat.

they are referring to a blog because Jeremy owns shoemoney and he is doing very good with it thats why rand decides to ask him about blogs as we know so many people visit this website.

I love Steve’s blog – been a long time reader.

Thanks for the Vid shoe – good for a quick break. For someone who claims to not be a SEO, you know more than half the companies that call me on a regular basis to ‘help out’ with our SEO efforts!!

I thought this was pretty informative really. I learned a couple of things, particularly that you always do the “nofollow” stuff as well as how you set your pricing for direct advertising.

Yea, and you cheated Adwords advertisers out of their money. Way to go..

Steve Pavlina (ranks #1 in G for “personal development”) says donation buttons pay. I’d much rather sport a “buy me a beer” than a “buy me a coffee.” I drink enough Starbucks every morning to quench the thirst of all liquid deprived African’s, so a nice cold stout at the end of the day would hit the spot. For me anyway..

Check out Steve’s blog, he’s got a lot of great info about monetization, particularly about “donate” buttons.

At least I got away w/a $130.. and besides I instructed them to click 4 ads a week… maybe someone does that a day…

I think those buy-me-a-coffee buttons are the last thing I would use to monetize my blogs. I still can’t believe that they make more money than AdSense.
I would only use them on sites with a huge amount of traffic and where I don’t want to place any ads for whatever reason.
Does anyone know a good statistics on which sites donation buttons are working?

I can say that I agree on most points that you do, jeremy. But I dont really understand why you guys are specifically reffering to blogs. In the end its just all about the niche and the way you market a site.

Thanks for the info. I went with AdSense for a while, but you’re right. There are so many more (better) affiliate programs out there. I’ve found that niche affiliates work the best for me. I’ve tried direct sales, but it tends to be a hassle sometimes – I don’t have anyone managing it (yet).

Asking your friends to click your ads isn’t a technique, it’s called fraud. No wonder they booted you.

    Nice and informative video.

Good idea to run affiliate links through a redirection script.

  40. Nullamatix
    March 4, 2008 at 3:40 pm

Not surprising – the worst thing next to clicking your own ads is to ask your friends & family to click your ads. Google knows, which is why I explicitly ask my friends & family to *not* click my ads unless they’re genuinely interested in what’s being advertised. Have you applied for YPN?

I could be mistaken, but I don’t think the earnings from the famous Shoemoney check were from this blog, but one of his ringtone sites instead (I’ll let Shoe mention the URL if he feels so inclined).

yeah, but adsense is the best way for beginners… i got my first check last december worth $130… and that came from asking friends to click my ads.. unfortunately I didn’t get away with the same techqniue in feb hence I was terminated….

Excellent video with some great info on monetizing. Thanks for sharing!

Jeremy, I think maybe your big check has contributed to people thinking Adsense is the best way to make money with a blog or website. It’s great that even with your big check, you still prefer all the other ways of making money with your blog.

I’m pretty stubborn and found out the hard way that adsense is not the best way to monetize a blog. Hopefully one of these days I’ll learn…
