Catching up
Posted on: March 4th, 2008 by Jeremy Schoemaker
First of all to Sugar Rae. You told me so on the fight. You are the winner. Damn you! <3
Yesterday this blog fell in pagerank from a pr6 to a pr5 despite getting over 20 links per day on average… and search engine traffic up about 500% since last fall. Fishy…..
I did a over-the-net video interview with Jim Kukral. He puts me on the spot a bit with the questions
Brian Clark did a great post on keyword research.
I was interviewed by Alex Shalman on the topic of happiness. Its one of my favorite interviews mostly because its questions I have never been asked before.
Big congrats to Sam Harrelson for winning Best Blog at the Affiliate Summit. I think next year there will be big time competition for this award with all the new super affiliate blogs and the great information they all share.
Revamped blog(ers):
Jennifer Slegg of Jensense fame has started a new blog that lets her get outside the contextual scope that she has become famous for.
Joel Comm has a new heavenly re-designed blog
Patrick Gavin – P to the G has started blogging again!
I think that covers it!
Hi I am Jeremy Schoemaker and ShoeMoney.com is my blog. 99% of the post here are done by me but you will see others occasionally make guest posts. This blog is fun to write but for my day job I run several online companies.

I was starting to think that something was wrong for the lack of posting…or you were actually working on a project.
March 4, 2008 at 5:59 am
Thanks shoe for the catch up and great links! The page rank thing is weird tho, lol.. I never pay attention to it if I do I end up waisting to much time!
March 4, 2008 at 6:01 am
You’ve lost a PR rank? Me too, yet traffic is up for me as well.
Bloody Google and their funny ways.
March 4, 2008 at 6:21 am
Thanks for the shout-out, Shoe. Stay cool, bubba… don’t sweat the pagerank.
March 4, 2008 at 6:24 am
Oh great, new interviews! And thanks for the Keyword Research-Link!
March 4, 2008 at 6:45 am
The page rank updates doesn’t always have a reason behind them at times eh? Sorry to hear about the drop but you have had great content on here so readers cannot argue with that!
March 4, 2008 at 7:09 am
Shoe,
I love these posts, you never forget about someone. No matter how long it takes.

One of your favorite interviews? That’s awesome Shoe! Glad you enjoyed it, and once again thank you for contributing to making the Happiness Project a huge success. =)
March 4, 2008 at 7:45 am
The keyword research post of Brian Clark has some great points! For sure, many bloggers not using those tacticts yet.
March 4, 2008 at 8:00 am
Maybe SEO isn’t bullshit as the theme of the week suggest… Maybe, you should change your meta tags and title tags…
Just curious, Are any of your ads prices linked to your PR score (like the facebook and others)?
March 4, 2008 at 8:29 am
Ian Fernando has went through a web design as well!! I also did a Jeremy and posted pictures of t shirts that I have received on affiliate summit on Friday!
March 4, 2008 at 8:31 am
I didn’t understand the Sugar Rae comment but I did like the Kukal interview. Will you update us on why your PR dropped.
Thanks for fixing my name!

March 4, 2008 at 8:34 am
Hey, dont you guys know that PR doesn’t matter… cmon, how can you even talk about it anymore.
March 4, 2008 at 8:52 am
no no that doesn’t cover it .. you forgot to mention me that i started blogging .. yeah the PR is a bit weird.
March 4, 2008 at 8:56 am
Google’s been acting pretty fishy lately. They’ve totally deindexed one of my sites, despite following the webmaster guidelines. The whole PR deal is over-rated anyway…
March 4, 2008 at 8:59 am
The PR system has to be rigged. Microsoft’s live search was at a PR2 until people starting bringing attention to the fact. How does a site that’s building natural links (an avg. of 20 per day) DROP PR? Just doesn’t make sense…
March 4, 2008 at 9:01 am
Thanks for this information I love reading new different stuff. This is a grade-a resource.
March 4, 2008 at 9:31 am
Love the footer.Yeap, besides PR, BL also been updated.
March 4, 2008 at 10:18 am
How can you go down in PR? Have you spoken to any of your friends at Google about this?
I am happy as a new site of mine went from PR0 to PR4 overnight, weird stuff this SEO!
March 4, 2008 at 11:06 am
Crazy on the pagerank. It doesn’t make sense what Google does at times.
March 4, 2008 at 11:08 am
I don’t think that anyone knows why the PR dropped…
March 4, 2008 at 11:39 am
Thanks for the update and links, very useful! Wish I had the opportunity to tell you ahead of time that Silva was gonna win!
March 4, 2008 at 11:58 am
Plus it reminds me to look for articles here on pageranking
I don’t know about that heavenly redesign; it’s a little heavy on the bling for me.
March 4, 2008 at 12:05 pm
I think Google’s algorithm changes as it benefits sites they have strong connects with kind of like changing the rules of the game as you play. But hey they have the power and we are using their product so can’t complain too much. Other then adsense should have its name changed to Adcents after I went in the past year from .35 cents average click to .08 cents average click.
March 4, 2008 at 12:26 pm
yup pagerank is now just meaningless all the good sites are getting lowered in PR
perhaps pr 0 is now the best and pr 10 is the worst
and they are working on the new test module for google to make the even special PR 11 (i dont think i need to tell you guys whether it is the best or worst)
March 4, 2008 at 2:22 pm
It’s strange that you’d drop in PR. It would be interesting to know what the formula is that Google uses to determine Page Rank. I have heard different theories on how page rank is determined. Some think it has a lot to do with links in. Some think it a combination of many factors. Is the secret only known by a few people? You would think if several in the company know, it would have been sold to the highest bidder by now. Even if I knew the formula, I probably wouldn’t understand it.

Jeremy,
The algo doesn’t count your links that come from your social media sites (the one’s that link out to your other social media sites, this gives them reference) now, so all that recycled PR is gone. I call it “incestuous PR”. Also any site that has your name on the whois info no longer transfers PR. An earlier post you had about the “new Google is Great project” rel=me and all that jazz helps them further with this process. You’re working for the big G, that’s what they want.
Even if you get 20+ links per day it will be quite a while before your PR moves back up unless you work on that specifically.
March 4, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Even I lost a page rank from 5 to 4 even when I have a lot of backlinks. Yahoo shows 60k backlinks and google shows 700…..lol
I noticed that change within a few hours. It was 6 and suddenly 5….but at that time I thought I must have had seen it wrong before and it would be 5 only since before….ah…now i get it.
March 4, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Google knows though. And as far as I can think, google has made the most stupid update this time ever. Sites with hardly any backlinks and quality goes upper PR and quality sites with a lot of traffic and a lot of backlinks goes down PR….
March 4, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Did you need it. LOL
March 4, 2008 at 3:24 pm
It does for those who want to earn money by selling links.
March 4, 2008 at 3:27 pm
The interview questions are really great.
March 4, 2008 at 3:30 pm
I was expecting a PR5. but they have dropped it to PR3 from 4. So bad.
March 4, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Actually it does. Google knows what you are doing more than you can.
March 4, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Yeah I noticed a very large flux with google the last few weeks, though everything came back stronger ranking and traffic wise.
PR not so much of an interest for me, just an ego trip which is good to take sometimes
March 4, 2008 at 3:45 pm
lol, Shoe.. this is total spam. You check out “wallpapers” site?? haha
March 4, 2008 at 3:48 pm
The keyword research post was great. I would have never found that. Thanks.

March 4, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Just saw the PR of my bloh. Not to say that I am disappointed this time too.
March 4, 2008 at 6:17 pm
I Agree That, just show the money then play the game
March 4, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Going from PR6 to PR5 isn’t fishy, check out how many links you have leaving the front page now as compared to then. Every one of them is demanding a small slice of your index page pr. If you reduced the number of links leaving your index page… you’d bounce back to six next update imo.
March 4, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Yeah, it does to those who want to earn money by selling links based on its pr value to some idiots who still buy links based on PR…
March 4, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Sometimes it only appears that one is losing PR because Google does NOT use decimals
so a 5.5 would be seen as a PR6 as well as a 6.4
sometimes sites fall at the border and will appear to fluxuate a whole point – while in reality they only fluxuated a tenth of a point – but happened to be at the middle area
March 5, 2008 at 5:37 am
I think PR does matter. Why else would there be such a thing if it didn’t.
March 5, 2008 at 6:39 am
I’ve just started reading the keyword article by Brian Clark and it makes you think about the difference between keyword research and market research.
March 5, 2008 at 6:39 am
Could be worse…they beat John Chow like a red-headed step child
March 5, 2008 at 9:22 am
ola from Portugal and Slovenia
I am new here , I am also newbie. I am reader of JohnChow blog. I am currious to see, what is difference between your (SheoMoney) and john’s blog. Well, I got in this minutes only first impression and this is, that this blog is much more ‘american’ as John’s blog. It so not good or bad, this is just my first thing, I noticed.
I said from Portugal and Slovenia, as I live in Portugal, right now I am in Slovenia, but I will go back to Portugal.
cheers
March 6, 2008 at 8:59 am
nice list of reading there shoe thanks for the heads up
March 7, 2008 at 8:37 pm
I’d agree with Popular Wealth. You have a ALOT of links leaving the homepage and that certainly can hurt your PR but then again your blog is successful and you have a loyal following so losing some PR isn’t that bad
March 8, 2008 at 11:46 am
patrick gavin cool! nice blog he has
March 12, 2008 at 6:33 am
