You can't be everyone's pal and buddy, be nonoffensive on every issue, and be true to yourself. That being said, love what you mentioned about being viewed as an authority. Handled correctly, the reply can reinforce the "authority" perception. I reply to all comments, good or bad. I had a blog on golfing accessorizes it wasn’t big and I got a few good comments, but one day some bad comments started coming in criticizing my blog and they started to unsettle me.
