Top Affiliate Challenge - Who Will Step Up?

52 people have said their piece on this post. What say you?

top affiliate

Thor Schrock, successful business owner from Lincoln Nebraska - took part in The Next Internet Millionaire challenge and placed 3rd. When the show ended even though Thor did not win he was the top Affiliate from the show.

Since the show aired Thor has expressed his disappointment in the fact the show never really had much educational value to the viewers and also that the whole plan business plan was to sell the DVD set after the series was over. There is no plan for a second season of the next internet millionaire. I also have to say I was a bit upset by the fact I could not interview anyone from the show until there main sponsor got involved and told me they would get me whoever I needed to help the show get more exposure.

So after the Next Internet Millionaire was over I met with Thor a lot about about making another show. Its no secret I have always wanted to do a web style apprentice where people actually made money on the internet in a competition. Ideally one that would show true affiliate challenges every show would be decided by their results and not by one persons opinion. But like many other things I have just never had the time to put into it.

So Thor has been at it…. Like a mad dog. He has the city on his side…. local companies… video crew hotel sponsorship even the local airport is on board. He is currently talking to various Affiliate companies also who want to be involved but he is having a bit of trouble getting some to commit. Also not many Affiliate companies are willing to actually have their offers used. Just a lack of confidence that there offers are the best I guess =P

So how will it work? Basically 12 contestants will make up 3 teams. The coaches and contestants will be picked by viewers. All expenses will be covered for the contestants. flights/food/hotels all covered. I have told Thor I will participate as needed. I want to help him see this through as a success. I expect some pretty big names in affiliate marketing to throw there names in the ring as coaches. Well unless they don’t think they have what it takes to compete against me!?!?

Anyway I am really proud of the work Thor has done on this and if you want to help it succeed get with your affiliate manager and tell them to support the competition. It will be aired on the web in real time and also archived. There is not going to be any behind the scenes up selling Thor just wants to make a really cool show and I am pretty sure he has the right ideas to make it a success!

Thor is a huge “Go Getter” I have known Thor for a little over a year now and it’s really cool to see what he has done so far with Top Affiliate Challenge. Joel may have been the pioneer in The Next Internet Millionaire, but I think Thor will step things up to a very high level. It’s really cool to see that you posted this in support of Thor. Very cool man. :)

the text link is the broken one you have affiliate is spelled wrong in the link you have ‘alte’

  6. Collin LaHay said on February 2nd, 2008 at 6:29 pm

You have an “L” instead of an “i” in the links.
“Firefox can’t find the server at http://www.topaffilialtechallenge.com.”

Also, I dugg his post yesterday when I received his email (im on his newsletter). Since it didn’t hit the homepage it might be a better idea to start a new digg post (one for this post alone) so that the show can hit the homepage of Digg because the current one is already locked in the archives now.

    Just a suggestion…

I think he is referring to the last link in the post. There is an extra l in topaffiliatechallenge

thor will do a much better job then I could. I have no time =(

Very intriguing concept. I can already see the second season, “Affiliate Survivor”…12 bloggers, alone on an island with only 3 notebook computers and a wireless connection. Who will have the energy to post? Who will cannibalize their opponents? And will John Chow eat the raw sushi made of kitten meat? Tune in to find out!

  11. RacerX said on February 2nd, 2008 at 8:11 pm

This sounds like a great premise. It will be great to see who’s ideas work and how you can/can’t apply them to you own web sites!

  12. Alan Johnson said on February 2nd, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Will be interesting to see how things turn out as Thor definitely seems like a person who knows what he’s doing, will be keeping an eye on this one :)

All my slBloggers will love it. Hmmmm… By the way John Rese.. I have heard he is also a very big one in the affiliate Erena..

  14. McBilly Wilford said on February 2nd, 2008 at 9:41 pm

Indeed Garry! This really looks promising. :)

@Shoe. Will this be limited to Americans or can Asians audition as well?

  15. Hottest Girls said on February 2nd, 2008 at 9:55 pm

yeh.. the next internet millionaire was a flop if you ask me.. had so much more potential

  16. Affiliate Confession said on February 2nd, 2008 at 10:16 pm

I hope there will be more value in it for those that watch than there was in The Next Internet Millionaire.

  17. Fiscal Musings said on February 2nd, 2008 at 11:00 pm

I think it sounds like a really cool idea. I’d watch just to learn how to do things better.

  18. MyEggNoodles said on February 2nd, 2008 at 11:14 pm

USP’s (Unique selling points) - If Thor can come up with 10 that will make his show better than the internet millionaire, it would work…. I’m not big in affiliate marketing so is hard for me to suggest ideas. As with most things, if you have a bunch of creative people on the team, I’m sure it would work. That guy (forgot his name) hosting the IM was a muppet… just what I and my friends thought when we watched one show - It seemed like he was just in it to get him self on TV ;)

  19. Brian Mark said on February 2nd, 2008 at 11:52 pm

My understanding is that anyone can audition… it’s all based on votes to get in to the contest.

  20. joeBob said on February 3rd, 2008 at 2:07 am

This will fail. Dear god man he can’t even get a half way decent site/blog for the pitch.

I think it will be a super hard sell for a sponsor. Simply stating you want to give your sponsors value isn’t good enough.

You need specifics for selling the concept.

For all its issues, next Internet millionaire worked.

  21. Allen said on February 3rd, 2008 at 2:15 am

THOR WAS ONE OF THE SMARTEST CONTESTANTS AND i THINK THAT WILL BE THE BEST CHALLENGE ON THE INTERNET AND SO DO WE SEND PROCEEDS TO THOR

  22. How To Rule The World said on February 3rd, 2008 at 3:34 am

this is interesting, i should get started on my video… lol. Is this going to be published on TV or just the internet?

  23. Simlock verwijderen said on February 3rd, 2008 at 6:36 am

I think - like The Next Internet Millionaire - it will only published on the Internet. But this is very intersting for me, I am readling the last time a lot about affilate marketing, but I never did something with it. I will follow this show and hope to learn some pretty good tricks to make money with it.

  24. Will said on February 3rd, 2008 at 11:40 am

yea the last show didn’t seem all that great in terms of learning.

  25. Justin said on February 3rd, 2008 at 11:46 am

I am a consultant for one of the main players in offer building and affiliating. We are the guys who brought the Lending tree offer(one of the largest offers in 2007) and Blockbuster offer you talked about so much to the market. I am sure you used it through Azoogle or one of the others, but we are the people who bring it to them. I would love to talk to both you and Thor about the needs and see if we can align something with and for you guys.

    Look forward to speaking
    J

LOL maybe they could feature http://www.Tracking202.com for the competition!

Ah, finally someone NOT kissing the butts of Joel Comm and Eric Holmlund, trust that it was Jeremy to pull the curtain back.

I would say that the final goal was not to sell DVDs of the series itself, but to push to push their so-called ‘Secret Classroom’ (’valued’ at 1997 and marked down and up depending on when you visit the page), yet another program designed to suck dry the wallets and purses of people desparate for some self-styled expert/’guru’ to tell them how to make big gobs of cash online and become an internet millionaire.

Wake up people, these guys will always be trying to sell you something and keep you chasing the holy grail of getting rich the easy way. Otherwise, how can they keep lining their own pockets and getting rich? Every week, they have a new ’secret’ for you to buy. Think (sc)Amway. Those screenshots of their bank accounts are really money they’re getting from desparate people buying their over-priced ebooks and videos.

They pay each other to talk about/promote their bogus products to their massive lists of gullible people. Yeah, I’m talking about you. How much have you spent buying their tapes, ebooks, videos? Didn’t each one promise to be the one that would made you big bucks? Did you even make back the bloated cost? Probably not.

Just because someone says that they’re a guru - or pays others to tell you that they’re experts - doesn’t mean that they are. Or that you should give them your money, especially lots of it, and more than once.

Not everyone can be Shoemoney, or John Chow for that matter; simply put, not everyone is transparent or honest like these two guys.

P.S. Jeremy - I note that you’re mixing up their (belonging to someone), they’re (short for they are) and there (some place, so to speak).

cant wait I want to participate - thor is the only name maker after the internet millionauire show!!

  31. Nick said on February 3rd, 2008 at 10:46 pm

Sounds awesome! Hopefully this one will be a lot more exciting and not be just a typical cliche reality show.

    Good Luck!

  32. DotDriven said on February 4th, 2008 at 7:28 am

Joel Comm annoys the f’nig hell out of me like no other. If one internet marketer displays the essence of a cheesy used car sales schmo, Joel is it for me.

With a name like Thor and a backer like Shoemoney, how could it fail lol ;).

Definitely will tune in for this one. Are the plans to try to get contestants that are affiliate noobs or that have some experience? I’d love to do it but don’t have any real experience and would probably be a detriment to my team coach lol.

  33. WineGuy said on February 4th, 2008 at 10:39 am

Quoting SoeMoney -”He is currently talking to various Affiliate companies also who want to be involved but he is having a bit of trouble getting some to commit. Also not many Affiliate companies are willing to actually have their offers used. Just a lack of confidence that there offers are the best I guess =P”

Shoe, this is a great idea and I will for one be eager to see you pull it off. Regarding the above quote, it seems to me that ’some’ affailaite programs would be afraid of the potential transparency it will bring to their affy programs. Perhap they are more afraid that public awareness of their possible shortcomings could be a PR nightmare?

    Cheers!

  34. SEOContest2008 said on February 5th, 2008 at 5:36 am

That is so true WineGuy. Who wouldn’t want publicity? Many companies actually wait for opportunities which they can use for themselves.

Is it me or will this be like another next internet millionaire?

  38. Nicholas James said on February 5th, 2008 at 7:28 pm

I mean in the sense that it going to be a flop because the next internet millionaire could have been much more…

  39. Erica DeWolf said on February 7th, 2008 at 12:09 am

Only on Shoe’s site are there 6 posts dedicated solely to getting a broken link fixed.

  40. Erica DeWolf said on February 7th, 2008 at 12:10 am

This definitely sounds promising. I’ll have to check it out.

  41. Top Affiliate Challenge said on February 10th, 2008 at 3:43 pm

Thanks for all of the great comments and questions. Top Affiliate Challenge will be different from Next Internet Millionaire. There will be no DVD set at the end, so we will be cramming the show full of tutorials, strategies, and knowledge. We want noobs and experienced players. We have 2 of the 3 gurus sewed up and the third is almost there. Feel free to email me or post your questions in the forum on the TAC website. Thanks!
