Bush’s State Of The Union Speech and 2008 Canidates

by Jeremy Schoemaker on January 28, 2008 · 45 comments

President Bush gave his final state of the union speech tonight. I thought it was one of the better speeches of his two term presidency. It marks the one year anniversary since shoemoney readers voted him the greatest president ever (wow that was 1 year ago already?).

WTF is with his winking though… that is kind of weird.

Anyway… I keep getting messages from people asking which presidential candidate I am endorsing for the 2008 presidential election. I dunno. Nebraska does not vote until like frickin may … doh…

Yes, the winking was a bit bizarre. It made you want to see who he was winking at, but the cameras never gave you that luxury.

I’m thinking Romney for now, but I don’t get too caught up in it until after the primaries and it’s Go For Broke.

I have a hard time watching it because I get so sick of the clapping and standing. I mean, geez, enough already.

I have a feeling it will be Obama vs. McCain, with Obama coming out with the win.

Anyone that thinks that there vote matters is in the dark. Im not posting links but you can go as far back as Nixon when there was voting fraud, even in the mid 80s (search it you will find it) when they started using electronic devices there was fraud found. Heck goto youtube and listen to the trial of one of the main programmers for the voting machines… A little research will go a long way and make you say WTF.

Wow, I just lost ALL respect for the readers of Shoemoney.com

Best president ever????? Are you all on crack?

Georgie boy is as close to a retarded person that will hopefully ever disgrace the oval office. For gods sake, have you never seen him speak? Nucular.. hint hint

The only positive thing about Georges entire presidency is that the bar is now set so low that even a deranged chimpanzee would turn it around for the better!

Voter fraud in Presidental elections for a longer time then that. Rutherford Hayes lost both the popular AND the Electorial vote and was still made President. It was so bad they called him RutherFraud…

This is nothing new the Vox Populi is alway moot. We live in a Republic not a democracy.

I’m not so sure about that. It probably will be Obama vs. McCain, but I bet McCain comes out on top. A lot of things can happen from now until November, and time is something the Democrats don’t have. The more the dollar falls, the longer the US stays in Iraq the more people will be angry with the Dems… even if McCain does want to stay in Iraq for 100 years, at least he is truthful, unlike all the Dems running on an anti-war compaign in ’06 who turned out to vote to stay in and fund it.

I already mailed in my vote for Ron Paul. He believes we should spend less money than we make as a country, keep the government small, handle international issues through communication and friendship instead of war, get rid of the IRS, and try to follow the original U.S. constitution as closely as possible.

Once hell of a document if you take time to read it.

The first black president or the first female president… whichever it is they’re walking into tough times. Some countries respect neither. Multiple wars, a free falling dollar value and thats not all.
You voted bush best, know that Bush has borrowed more money in his presidency than the money borrowed by ALL presidents before him COMBINED. Bush vs ALL OF THEM = Bush wins, he raised the debt more than all of them by himself!!
Missing a bond payment could cripple the US completely right now, and the dollar continues to fall.

I should add that I’m behind bush, he had little choice, but the question now is which president is going to protect our kids futures the best from this fincancial mess? California is already in an official state of financial emergency, Schwarzenneger initiated it a few weeks ago.

It was hard to watch. I was very surprised that he hinted at something like the Kyoto Protocol after being so against it. I think he even sounded like there was climate change. It seemed to be an amazing speech, to bad he didn’t do any of the things he mentioned during his first 7 years…

I think people are too hard on Bush, but I do think the economy is the biggest thing now..would really like to see the dollar beef back up. I think it’s gonna be Hillary not Obama but I could be wrong..on the Repub side now I just don’t know. If Romney wins will Meg Whitman be secy of commerce??

Yeah the ONE thing Bush had to save his legacy is now washing down the drain as the blinders come off and even all the usual conservative water carriers are whispering “recession”. Even if you don’t believe that… the president’s own address clearly illustrates that even a moron like him knows the economy is NOT doing great as they have been telling us.

It was hilarious to watch the early republican debates where it seemed only 1 or 2 candidates didn’t get the memo saying “the economy is fine….”. The rest were carrying water and claiming bush tax cuts FTW!!

Before panicking about the financial mess at the states, it’s time to learn about CAFRs … states are sitting on giant, off-the-books endowments, yet they act like they’re broke to get more and more of your money.

Find out what your state’s financial condition *really* is.

Yes, I did hear his State of the Deficit Address… and I particularly love how all I hear is “double the funding for this” or create $600 Million for that and then says “I will veto any bill that comes across my desk that increases taxes” What the f*ck is wrong with this guy? Did he fail to take a single econ class in college? This guy couldn’t balance his check book… The populace is in debt, the country is in debt, we’re about to give the BANKS billions in bail out money for not taking responsibility and doing due diligence and we wonder why theres a recession…

One of the last TRUE fiscal conservative Republicans,
Matt

Don’t vote for me. Vote for Ron Paul.

“People like polls so they can let the other guy make up their mind for them. Along time ago they called it Sheepherding.

I don’t honestly care about the polls myself. Mainly because the only candidate who truly gives a damn about the citizens he represents is Congressman Paul. I urge you to go look at his record whether you believe me or not. Don’t just tow the line read for yourself. The media, and his own party don’t want him (he poses a threat to them), but I feel that the people would- that is if they could get out from under the shoe of partisan politics and corporate manipulation.

A vote for Ron Paul would be a vote to put freedom back into the hands of the people. Don’t let Liberty die. Vote Ron Paul 2008.” *Note he wants to abolish most of your federal taxes*

The Washington and Lee mock convention – the most historically accurate in the country – picked Hillary to win the Democratic nod. They’ve only been wrong once since 1948, and they gave her over 500 delegates more than Obama. It’s not set in stone, but it’s pretty compelling.

For the record, I agree that people are too hard on Bush. I think there’s sort of an irrational mob mentality towards him.

Oh yes, I agree. It makes it three times as long. And why is it only the state of the union that makes everyone stand and clap? Are we really hearing anything different in this speech than we did in other ones?

Government has never killed a tax permanetly! They have just morphed them.
