I frickin love April fools day. Especially online. Its the ultimate link bait day. Everyone is looking for it.. I ALWAYS DO IT and yet people still will fall for it
. I will tell you right now I have something really good in store for this year and its like only 10 weeks away! AND yes even though I am announcing it now some of you will for sure fall for it
.
If you do not know what you are going to do for this years April Fools Day prank then GET AFTER IT. Its a creative marketers dream and if you can make something good enough that people will bit it is the ultimate glory for a marketer (IMO). Of course if you suck, your prank will get called out early then you will have a full year in shame that you couldn’t pull it off.

Indeed, people will most likely forget about this post until April 1st, that’s probably the reason why he has written it now instead of later in the first place.

January 23, 2008 at 4:59 pm
He tricked people by making his frontpage look like this: http://www.shoemoney.com/f.html
January 23, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Indeed, quite a few people see it as a great link baiting opportunity but then again, given the date, people will most likely think twice before biting

I was due to be born that day, and what’s worse is that my older sister’s name is April, yes indeed, my nickname would’ve been April’s Little Fool.
I held on 4 more days and am nobody’s fool.

Remember, it’s not a truly epic April Fool’s joke if, in the process, you don’t piss off a lot of people.
The best April Fool’s joke I ever took part in was actually begun about two weeks prior to April Fool’s. I and a programmer friend were both members of an online community, back in the day when online communities were still pretty new. We cooked up this scheme over pizza one night. We were both system administrators of this online community. He wrote up a nice little program that purported to be an intelligent matchmaker program – you filled out a ten or twelve questions online, and then it selected from the database of other people who’d filled out the questionnaire to tell you who your best match was. That’s all it did. He installed it, I wrote up the announcement, and we let it fly.
It took off like wildfire. Everyone was running it, and then re-running it, because the more people who sent in their questionnaires, the more potential choices for a ‘match’ each person had.
But then all hell started breaking loose. Straight people were being matched with gay people. 60-year olds were being matched with 15 year olds. Husbands and wives, girlfriends and boyfriends WEREN’T being match. Several couples started dating based just on the results of this program. People were actually questioning their relationships (and maybe even their sexuality!!) The amount of drama it caused was unequalled in the history of the online community.
After two weeks, when April 1st arrived, we finally came clean, in the opposite way you’d expect – we actually *told the truth*. The matchmaking program was a shill. All the answers to the questionnaire were tossed – people were being matched in a pretty much total random fashion – actually, I think it had something to do with counting up the number of characters in their login-ids.
Boy, were people pissed at us! If we hadn’t been sysadmins, we probably would have been thrown off the system.
I remember it fondly to this day.

Of course if you suck your prank…

Thanks for the laugh in the morning
I love the post title, lol
January 23, 2008 at 8:06 am
At first I didnt think it was a good post, but then I realised this will be a great trick and a great oppotunity for driving a massive amount of traffic to my sites as everything is allowed on the day, I will think up of some stories that are so outrageous that people will find it hard to belive they are not true. Thanks for the early heads up Shoe
