Are You a Guitar Hero?

by Jeremy Schoemaker on January 10, 2008 · 95 comments

My neighbor, and lincoln dentist, Brad invited me over the other night to play some Guitar Hero. I had heard of the game before but …. wow… This game frickin rocks. Do any of you guys play?

I downloaded the demo for the 360, even with a normal controller it was pretty cool. Bought the “propper” kit and now I’ll happily spend an hour jumping around in front of the tv!

I’ve played a bit and got pretty good. Definitely not like playing the guitar lol.. I head they come out with a PC version of it too. It be cool if you could add your own trax to it and it would some how figure out how to adjust the game to flow with the music you’ve added.

Guitar Hero III rocks! But, if you play guitar in real life, like I do, it kinda screws with you a little bit. It is fun, but I’d rather play on a real stage.

Dude, I’m addicted to that game. I think it’s mostly the great music that it has on it.

I just recently played Rock Band which is very similar only it includes the bass, drums, and vocals as well. That game was insane. I’m pretty sure I liked it even better than GH.

It definitely is a great party game. It’s funny to watch people walk into the room and naturally gravitate to it. You also get the people that will watch intently. When you offer to let them play, they pull the “oh I dunno… it looks kinda… oh, ok.” Two songs later they’re hooked.

Ohhh heck yes. When I first heard about it, I though how fun could it be. I think that I am too old to be playing video games but I gotta tell ya, You’re right, this game DOES rock. My buddies all got guitars and play quite frequently. Too funny. I AM having a hard time getting past the “hard” songs. There must be some kind of trick or else I can forget about the expert levels. I have pretty much mastered medium however. As a joke my family got me a cary bag for my guitar cuz I am always taking it over to my friends house. I guess I am a geek.

When you get good at Guitar Hero definitely try out Rock Band also. You can play drums and sing (karaoke style) too. Definitely fun with a bunch of people.

Not into it but it is a great migration from DDR (without the workout). They seem to have decent song list as well, which I think adds greatly to them being successful.

Guitar Heroes Rocks! Rock Band has alot more going on… much better for a party. Anyone who can master Roxanne on rockband is Da’ Bomb…. After saying rrrooooxxxaaannneeeeeee for the 75th time my voice choked and they booed me off stage. Still havent gotten the balls to go back in front of that audience….

Guitar Hero is awesome. Nuff said. But the best part about this piece is the anchor text on the link to your neighbor’s website. I love it! :D It appears to be working too. Check the SERPs!

Having played music games for the better part of the decade now, I can say that I prefer Guitar Freaks – the original guitar game (it came out in 1998 and is still going strong).

I find it tough to play Guitar Hero without questioning how its makers got away without being sued.

Reply

43 Rockwell January 10, 2008 at 11:43 pm

GHIII is probably the most fun I’ve ever had with a video game. I’m about halfway through the expert songs. My one-year-old daughter loves to watch me play and dances to the songs. Whenever she wants me to play she grabs the guitar and goes “GAHHH”.

Reply

44 jim January 10, 2008 at 11:46 pm

You should try Rock Band too. Take guitar hero and add a vocalist and drummer, it’s a lot of fun. Plus, you can use the GH guitar with rock band and have a guitar & bass.

Reply

45 Rockwell January 10, 2008 at 11:46 pm

As an aside, is it bad parenting to play Iron Maiden’s “The Number of the Beast” with your one-year-old daughter in the room? :)

That is actually one of her favorite songs…

I have never personally played it, but have seen it played and our son thinks it’s the best thing since his quad. I think it’s a great way to get the kids off the couch, and actually moving, even if it is just their hands.
Although I have seen some people REALLY get into it, so there is nothing wrong with moving a motionless body.

I play quite frequently. It is a really great game. I do notice that my eyes and hands are not as coordinated as they used to be. And it is much harder for me to play than a normal person because I really know how to play guitar. Which makes it seem illogical the way the controller reacts sometimes.

Some things in life came up where I needed some quick cash, so I ended up selling all of my guitars (yea, real ones) worth over $3K… it’s almost been a year without a REAL electric guitar, and I ended up getting Guitar Hero III for Xmas…
Right off the bat, I was HOOKED! I even play it around doing some of my “semi-automated” marketing… (putting in captcha codes and such…) I wrote about it on my blog here:
