Susan Reynolds, well known blogger, twitterer and 2nd life player is having a surgery today to remove one of her breasts. She is blogging the whole thing on her boobs on ice blog. She is very honest on the blog and I really feel for her.
A while back Susan started using a avatar of a bag of peas on her twitter account and wrote about how she used the bag of frozen peas to relieve the pain from multiple biopsies. She made many jokes about the whole frozen pea thing. Some of her friends took it to heart and decided to donate bags of frozen peas to her.
I think it is amazing she has been able to keep her humor. I can’t tell you how terrified I would be if I had cancer or god forbid my wife was going through what she is going through.
Anyway back to her-
So her friends took it a bit further and have started free pea Friday. But instead of donating bags of peas you donate to cash every Friday (the value of a bag of peas) to Making Strides, the breast cancer campaign of the American Cancer Society.
I think its a great cause and if you do too you can donate here

As a cancer survivor, this is an awesome idea…
I have to admit, when I saw your headline in my reader I thought this was some kind of cheesy shill. I’m glad I was wrong! This looks like a great cause. Susan must be a strong woman! thanks for posting this!
Great cause. I’m going to head over and donate now.
Fantastic idea! And very appropriate for these times when cancer still is a pain for many families.
Merry Christmas to all!
Good timing as well.
great cause.
just an observation, people only seem to care about this kind of stuff once it happens to someone they know.
Photrade.com will donate $1 for every picture of peas uploaded today to the Frozen Pea Fund. Details on our blog at http://blog.photrade.com/?p=79.
I think that it is great to see the community coming together for a cause like this.
This is a great cause, that is for sure.
Here’s some info she might like to hear: http://www.physorg.com/news116948260.html
Send her my best wishes!
Thanks for promoting such a great cause. I have many friends and family members struck by cancer, and a good family friend is going through breast cancer recovery right now. Please support in any way that you can. Merry Christmas Everyone.
That’s pretty awesome! Sure get’s the male audience attention.
Great idea to raise money, but also seems like a marketing strategy in a way…

Nice to see a blog directing attention to something truly worthwhile.
not too sure about that really
Good luck – very gutsy to be so public about it!
I think this is awesome! My mom had breast cancer when I was young. I can remember all the friends that rallied around us at that time. It is inspiring to see that so many ‘Internet friends’ are willing to do the same. Especially at this time of the year you like to hear about people reaching out and making a difference. Kudos to everyone who’s done that for her.
It does seem that way, but whatever it takes to get their attention I suppose.
hahaha . . . the bags of peas is VERY clever. Good on you, Susan, and best of luck. My grandmother had a similar issue, and I was very surprised by how up-front she was about it – both before and after the surgeries.
She use to live down in Florida when she had the first surgery done, and we were walking through one of the beach-front swim stores. She found a package called the “strapless bra” and questioned how it worked. The young gal behind the counter explained that they were simply pasties so “concerned” women wouldn’t have anything pop-through their bikini tops while at the beach. Each package contained one set. Being quick-witted, she turned to me and said “Hey, it’s a twin pack for me!”
hahaha . . . she was great.
Again, best of luck Susan, and keep the spirit (and humor) up!
Very inspirational and gutsy to write a post about such circumstances to assist others
This is a great idea. Once it hits your family, you have a lot more empathy for those who go thorough a cancer fight.
Good job supporting a worthwhile cause.
Alot more creative than wearing another ribbon. This is definitely an attention-getter. Best regards to the cause! Stay positive!
This is very noble of you Shoe ! Great action
with a title like thAT its hard to say no
Post with good intentions.
Hey,
This is David Neff over at the American Cancer Society. Thanks so much for posting about this. Susan is just one of the many women that face Breast Cancer every year. Thanks for helping us spread the word that this disease is treatable if caught.
