Google Docs Makes Me Happy

64 people have said their piece on this post. What say you?

Ok most people know I am not a writer. I think that is pretty evident… well at-least I am not a traditionally writer. If you have not tried Google Docs I HIGLY recommend it.

I have been collaborating with others on some books… some my part is more then others maybe I write a few chapters on affilaite or contextual or whatever… but Google Docs really makes this SO EASY to do.

I got the book bug and started going at it and now am almost ready to release the shoemoney playbook (out in march) It is 100% written in Google Docs.

So check out Google Docs if you have not yet. It has every tool I ever needed and more… I can work on my document no matter where I am at… my editor can edit it and it has FANTASTIC revision control. I cant say enough <3 about it.

I dont know anyone at the Google Docs team but I am sure some reading can pass the love on ;) Its a fantastic product.

  1. Hustle Strategy said on November 23rd, 2007 at 8:53 pm

Agreed it is a great product. I hope your editor is paid alot. Their is probably alot of errors he has to catch ;) I use various spreadsheets online as well for quick number manipulation. Things seem to be trending to the web…

  2. Chris Jacobson said on November 23rd, 2007 at 8:57 pm

I wrote my entire eBook in Google Docs. I like it much better than OpenOffice (which I was using before). The fact that it’s online and accessible from anywhere is also a major plus.

  3. Shane said on November 23rd, 2007 at 9:05 pm

    Pretty cool,

Just one question. Shouldn’t “market” come before “launch”? I know everybody does it backwards, but hey, you’re marketing your book now for a March release!

  4. ShoeMoney said on November 23rd, 2007 at 9:12 pm

not in our book… I am not trying to market the book. When I do you will know ;) and it will be after the launch. Course the book is more geared tword a business and not really a book…

  5. commandos said on November 23rd, 2007 at 9:19 pm

Any idea how much the book will cost ?

back to Google docs … ur right , it’s so easy to use and you can back to any revision you want , no more headache on non saved docs or lost papers .

  6. Remarkablogger said on November 23rd, 2007 at 9:26 pm

I use Google Docs for tons of stuff. I absolutely love it. I kinda wish the formatting were better, but I can live with it.

  7. jim said on November 23rd, 2007 at 9:26 pm

Google Docs is really pimp, I like the collaborative potential it brings, we started playing with it at work and it’s wonderful. It’s so much better than turning on document sharing in MS Word and throwing it on a share drive.

  8. Phil said on November 23rd, 2007 at 9:26 pm

ahah your right they’re proby isn’t a lot of errors he has to catch! I hope their paid very well!

  9. jim said on November 23rd, 2007 at 9:26 pm

    I mean Excel, I don’t think Word has sharing…

  10. Israel said on November 23rd, 2007 at 10:20 pm

looks like your are gonna be making even more money by entering the book market. good stuff.

  11. Affiliate Confession said on November 23rd, 2007 at 10:35 pm

Dude, when are you going to do another Shoemoney show and quit writing about stupid stuff on your blog?

  12. serge said on November 23rd, 2007 at 10:54 pm

I will check it out… Once I used one of google’s spreadsheet products, didn’t like it.

  13. 賃貸 大阪 said on November 23rd, 2007 at 11:43 pm

We use it the spreadsheet a lot. Easy for everyone to update it remotely. It is not as easy to use an excel, but the online part makes up for it.

  14. Georgie said on November 23rd, 2007 at 11:58 pm

What did you say in one of your radio shows, ‘if i ever release a book, don’t buy it because it means i’ve run out of real ideas’…

  15. 30 Day Man said on November 24th, 2007 at 12:02 am

Yeah I have been a fan of Google Docs for a while; I have always wondered how many people use it - cuz Google don’t seem to pimp it too much.

I stumbled on OpenOffice a few months back and that has been a handy replacement to MS Word too.

PS - The latest ver of Word has caused me many probs, cuz nobody is able to open the latest .DOC style files. Smart stuff.

I used the Google Docs presentation module to create a presentation for my last Mastermind group meeting. I have a Mac, and no Powerpoint, and I also hate the problems people have when they try to get their powerpoint file onto the presentation computer, etc.

So I just logged into the internet from the presentation computer — and there was my presentation. Super easy. AND — I was able to modify my presentation the night before, no problem — because it was saved online.

    Love it.

  17. Common Sense said on November 24th, 2007 at 12:28 am

Best of luck with your book. I’m far from writing anything that might require the product, but I’ll keep it on my list.

  18. JackBook.Com said on November 24th, 2007 at 2:10 am

    wow cool man
can’t wait to read that book :)

  19. tyler dewitt said on November 24th, 2007 at 2:18 am

are you going to hint around on how to do stuff? Get my drift…. such as hinting around on how you’ve been so much money I think you should and any one that catches on has the mind for it, but any one that doesn’t catch on apparently is not putting enough effort into it.

  20. youfoundjake said on November 24th, 2007 at 2:41 am

If i remember correctly, you can print to a pdf from google docs no?
    That’s pretty useful I would imagine….

  21. lyricsreg said on November 24th, 2007 at 3:05 am

It’s a great application, but I don’t feel comfortable having important documents on a google server somewhere. Google has to much information as it is, without me uploading my daily schedule on their server

    I’ll give it a test.

I cant wait to read it! :D Hurry it up man ;)

  25. Rich said on November 24th, 2007 at 4:28 am

I have also been using Open Office for my ebooks. Can Google Docs churn out PDF files and the like?

Great for books with multiple authors - might suggest a new project to some friends to test out!

Looking forward to the shoemoney manual too… should be interesting reading

  28. Hustle Strategy said on November 24th, 2007 at 5:36 am

all that personal info probably had something to do with it.

  29. Gecko Tales said on November 24th, 2007 at 6:33 am

Congrats on the book. I finished the first draft of a memoir and hope to complete the first revision by end of year. It’s a big undertaking writing a book, but leads to great satisfaction once completed.
I’ll be first in line to read it.

  30. Matthew said on November 24th, 2007 at 6:41 am

please let me know if there will be any affiliate program for that book!

I use google apps, which includes google docs. although i have not used docs as much as their mail / calendar / start page, i am just as pleased as you are with their service. as a result, i have started offering google apps to my clients instead of traditional email setups (for hosting). i look on google labs weekly to see what they will come up with next!

  34. gambit32 said on November 24th, 2007 at 9:29 am

I love google docs. I have Office at work, and openoffice at home, but most things that I write, I use google docs for. Everything is solo work, but the fact that I can update a budget spreadsheet, or add something to my resume, from ANYPLACE i am… its a winning product.

  35. Bruce said on November 24th, 2007 at 9:52 am

I use Googel Docs all the time. My wife and I use it for all sorts of collobration techniques. I really like the spreadsheet functionality. I use it a lot more than I use the docs. Lately I’ve been using it as a holding space for blog posts. I don’t really like writing posts in Wordpress so this is a good option as I don’t have to carry posts around on my flash drive. I travel between computers a lot and when the inspiration hits as long as I have an internet connection I cna get my thoughts down.

  36. ShoeMoney said on November 24th, 2007 at 10:14 am

wow thats a good idea ;)

its like telling people to pray then if god doesnt help them they didnt pray hard enough! If only I can get as rich as religions!

Seriously though… Its not really a how to book its more (as the steps show) what process we go through at shoemoney media when building a company/website. In 15 years of trying to make money I have only been successful for about the last 4. I have more experience in failing at business then succeeding. Hopefully sharing our steps in building businesses will save you from years of failures ;)

I used Google docs as a To-Do list - extremely helpful when you’re on the road and doesn’t have a PDA with you.
Creating a ebook with it? That’s a pretty new thing to me… :)

  38. louise said on November 24th, 2007 at 4:45 pm

I love googledocs, I use it all the time for work stuff, home stuff and working up articles and posts, being able to use it anywhere it such an advantage when you are on the road and work out of different offices all the time.

  39. king jacob said on November 24th, 2007 at 4:49 pm

  40. king jacob said on November 24th, 2007 at 4:54 pm

Ive been using it since it was writely and I love it. Though I would love to see a it adapted to allowe live collaboration with multiple people.

  41. Neon said on November 24th, 2007 at 5:08 pm

google docs does not have too many advance stuff but it is enough for me to frequently jot down notes and store certain non-sensitive important documents.

  42. Neon said on November 24th, 2007 at 5:11 pm

yes. your text document can export into html, rtf. word, openoffice, PDF or normal text.
