What Does Your Drafts Folder Look Like ? – A Meme

This is pretty much open to anyone who wants to answer. What does your blogging drafts folder look like?

Here is mine:

Posts are basically (in order):

Hire A Seo For Who They Know, Not For What They Know – a post I have had for a bit in the drafts folder. Basically almost every seo knows the same crap… I mean there are extreams but 99.99% are all the same. The real difference is experience and who they know.

Questions From Users – just a placeholder I keep all the questions that are asked on this blog. If I am ever just wanting to write I will pull one out and answer it in a post.

Fun Google Search Strings – Google has so many advanced search strings that really imo seperate them from the other search engines. I was going to share my favorites.

I Love Audio Books – I dont read but I do listen to a ton of audio books.

Myspace contest – heh… I have had this on the back burner for ATLEAST 16 months. May or may not happen. Every time I do a contest I remember why I don’t like to do contests.

Webmaster Cheat Sheets. A list of my favorite webmater cheat sheets found around the web.

Reasons why making money online will only get harder – this is far from done. Making money online 3 years ago was TONS easier then it is now. Hell it was even way easier 1 year ago then it is now. Its to bad everyone comes up with a million excuses why they cant do it now.

So those are things sitting in my draft box… maybe I will write them or maybe they will trip something in you to write one? So what does your draft box look like?

Hell, I am glad I am constantly curing myself from excusitis. ;)

Besides: I don’t use WP drafts. Almost all my content is build using MS Word in conjunction with Live Writer. Larger postings can easier be worked. Also the spell checker has its advantages.

PS: Pls excuse my bad english for I am from Germany and english is not my mother tongue. Still curing though. ;)

I don’t use drafts. I might though in the future. I just type them up on word then load them when needed.

  3. Affiliate Confession

I just started using drafts and only write maybe a couple of posts ahead. But the more I write the more ideas I get so my drafts will be filling up in the near future.

  4. Matt

i want to see the google search strings :p

For my blogging and hacking tips site – Sciencetext.com – I’ve got posts queued up, three or four a week, till early 2008. My Sciencebase site on the other hand works on a more timely basis and I’ve just posted today’s feature, the queue is now empty, so I need to get on and write someth

  6. Gecko Tales

I don’t keep drafts long. I usually have an idea, write about it, and post it. I can’t sit on something or it will drive me nuts. I do have a notebook where I write ideas down, so I guess that’s about the same as your drafts folder.

  7. Milov Patel Blog

I have one draft, and there just little notes I kept to my self.

  8. $1000 Dollar Project

  10. Robert

I have about 20 drafts, most of which are about 4 or 5 lines long, the exact point at which I realised the my great article idea wasn’t so great after all.

  11. Credit Score

please post the Google search string article

  12. Rich Sage

Hi Jeremy, I really enjoy reading about what you’re doing. I also like to learn a lot from you. However, when I pose a question here, there is no way to know IF it was answered. Any suggestions on how I could keep up with your notes on an issue? Appreciate it.

  13. Matthew J

It’s harder this year because everyone and their mom thinks they are a SEM/AM. There is getting to be alot of fish in this big pond.

  14. Thor Schrock

I still have a draft from that is a response to a company suing me more than a year ago. My lawyer is telling me not to publish it, but man, it is a good piece of writing!

  15. johnCard

hymn, wonder why it’s harder to make money now compared to last year? That would be an interesting post.

  16. Dave

Who you know is important for any job, not just SEO’s. But it’s all about ROI…sure, all things being equal I’ll take the guy that knows more people. And I’ll pay more to have that guy..but at a certain point, being able to tap into his network on occasion isn’t worth the extra money you’re laying out on a monthly basis.

It’s like a real estate agent..I can use a guy that has all the contacts, but charges 6% commission or a guy that just lists the house for 3%. If i am selling a 500k house, the guy with all the contacts now has to get me $15k more for my house just to cover his hgiher commission. A good SEO might have more contacts, but is it worth the higher price

  17. Israel

it at least helps you save your ideas for future use.

  18. Israel

i use my drafts folder to write down all my ideas as i get them. i have about a month or 2 worth of drafts.

  19. Neon

i never use draft folder… however, everytime i have any rough idea, i will quickly use my trusty notebook.exe to jot down in point form.

  20. Neon

it is actually always harder to make money for any stuff as time pass even for traditional business… .. but there is always new innovative industry or idea pop out.

  21. Neon

who you know.. is important. you can possibly own every kind of websites. the more powerful webmaster network you have, the more efficient you can to improve the client’s site seo.

  22. Joeychgo

Mine is empty – :) No drafts at all. I need to start making some so if I dont feel like blogging one day I can just pull from there.

  23. BloggerDollar

I’ve just written a post about importance of drafts last week. There are people releasing unfinished articles which is damaging the quality of their blogs.

  24. scott neumyer

Great post. Mine is currently empty, but that’s only because I just got through a nice relaunch. Trying to start fresh is difficult, but sometimes necessary. Rock on!

  25. bmunch

I too have 20 over draft post within the draft folder. Some of them I have lost interest in, and some of them are in the process of research. I have not upgrade to WP2.3 so my drafts are still in a cloud within the Manage —> Post.

Damn So difficult to navigate. Ops, sorry for outburst.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  26. Matt Jones

I’ve got over 120 drafts, and only 130 published posts! It’s crazy!

  27. CatherineL

Shoe – the problem with my drafts is that some of them will contain really rough outlines. They almost never have good titles, as I always think of the title last. So, sometimes when I come back to them, I forget what they were actually supposed to be about!

  28. Mike Huang

Great way to bring out some nice content on your posts.

    -Mike

  29. lyricsreg

My drafts look somewhat like that, only a lot less organized :)

  30. Tim

I’ve tried to clear my draft post as soon as possible. Now no more pending draft post …

thanks for the tip, I think I need to start a draft box… not just for blogs, but for everything…

  33. ivy

For some strange reason, I keep my drafts on paper. I have a notebook where I use to keep myself organised. It contains my comment list, prospect list, notes to myself on interesting sites, etc. Naturally I keep it by my side when carrying out daily tasks.

So when a big idea hits me while I’m researching, commenting, or outside talking to friends – I simply grab my notebook and jot it down with a few notes. As I don’t start writing straight away but organise my points on paper first in mindmap form before typing (and I’ve found this saves me a lot of time), a lot of my drafts end up looking like maps and sketches in my notebook. Occasionally I do write an article off the top of my head, but that has never worked well for me. Most of my stumble traffic come with articles I’ve planned properly and wrote on.

Key ideas I’ve jotted down at the moment are:
    1. Characteristics of an A-list blogger: , an obvious link bait series of post
    2. StumbleUpon vs Digg – a tabulated comparison of facts which has been difficult as there are some discrepancies in reports about number of Digg users and
    3. Using your blog as a Customer Service Forum for home business owners.

I’ve thrown out other ideas that have been previously covered. Might chew on them some more to see if I can come up with a different angle for them though.

  34. Nick - road2graduation

I’m a little different to many, I use Blogjet so I store my drafts in a folder on my desktop. I also have an excel spreadsheet with post titles and descriptions on for the next 3months – I do chop and change it, but I like to have ideas down and a plan to work to.
Shoe I think the draft on making money online and getting harder would be good to post on in 2007, then review it at the same time in 2008? – Be good to see how your thoughts and people’s views have changed.

  35. chipseo

For some reason I have 2-3 pages of drafts. They are pretty much all ideas that I haven’t written anything about yet. Any time I get an idea for a post, I jot down a title real quick then post it to a draft before I forget it.

When I run into a time when I can’t think of anything to write about I go back and look over my drafts and see what I can pull out of those titles.

  36. Jason Brailow

I’ve never used the draft function before, that’s a great motivation to start a post even if you don’t have time to finish it. Also it will be sitting there looking at you next time, saying “finish me!”

  37. Carl Zetterlund

Please finish that post on why it is harder today to make money online than years back.

    I’m extremely intrigued!

  38. tyler dewitt

Interesting jeremy I’ve never really saved any drafts only time I drafted is when i was saving a post, but I’ve never actually used it for that particular reason :)

  39. Affiliate Unleashed

“Google has so many advanced search strings that really imo seperate them from the other search engines”

I’d Love to see this post! :D It’s always fun to find new and interesting ways of using google.

  40. bloggernoob

No wonder you’re making the big bucks. Saving the user questions is brilliant. Guess im showing green

  41. Vinny

My folder sits empty only because I never thought about saving future post there. Thanks for the idea. I always save my unfinished work in a folder on my desktop.

  42. JoeTech.com

    Mine, unfortunately, is empty.

  43. MyBizTool

Actually, my Draft folder is empty. I keep all that type of stuff in Google Docs.

  44. Dave

Eh, I kind of agree with your SEO comment, but not really. No offense to these guys, but there are your garden variety SEOs that basically rehash Aaron’s wall $50 ebook…classic examples of these guys are the people that do SEO 101. And that’s not just because it’s a beginners course, they are just not full of much useful info period, no matter the level.

And then there is other SEO advice that can transform your business. If I used the basic stuff, I’d have average rankings. I belong to STompernet and the stuff they teach their blows away any of the white hat crap out there…it’s not black hat, but grey hat..or white hat on steroids. I’m willing to pay for that kind of knowledge…I’ve dominated the SERPS in most markets I’ve tried to..including pretty compettive ones.

But then again, unless you are a big company, who outsources SEO. Learn it yourself and then hire the necessary pieces to get it done.

  45. PureWordPress.com

Sadly I cleaned out my ‘drafts’ just a few days ago. I find that if I don’t finish a draft within one week of creating it then I know for a fact I never will and just delete it and be done with it… ^_^

  46. printnpost.com

  47. Charles Williams

    What’s a draft folder? :)

  48. Hustle Strategy

wait til your flow begins to slow or the market is saturated, but make sure you are the first to post it ;)

    How do I shot web?

  50. Mubin

You really need to be resting your eyes man.

  51. SonicReducer

I have about 3 in drafts, including one that is an absolute killer PPC tip. I just can’t decide if I want to let that cat out of the bag yet, if you know what I mean. So it has sit in there for about 3 months now.

  52. greatreeftanks.com

Mine would be empty right now. I need to work on developing a few drafts to that I’m able to post more frequently.

    Damn day job!

  53. Chip

I keep my drafts into a folder in my laptop. I write and correct them, and after that, I post them to my blog. Whenever I have multiple drafts (and this happens quite often recently), I use the Timestamp option to make them show up at different hours.

  54. commandos

Mineee is emptyyyy !! i need ideas and tooo busy with school work & reading ur blog :P

  55. Contest Beat

Yeah… contests are a lot of work huh

  56. Chris Jacobson

I have about 3 posts in mine… one regarding a digital camera giveaway, which I never got around to doing (should have done it like 2 months ago), my top picks for blogging web hosts and a list on how to improve your Yahoo search index ranking. All of these aren’t done yet… I tend to add bits of information here and there, but focus on other things.

  57. Alex @ Web 2.0 WordPress Guide

My drafts folder nearly always empty :( always there is more things to write about then there is a time and once post is ready to go live – it is published even if it is a future date … that allows me to research other things.

I have to admit I never thought of drafts as a way to organize and might have to re-think it. I generally keep thinks in Firefox bookmarks via Foxmarks extension and in Google notes .

    Alex

  58. Stuart

Seems like a good way to keep things organized.

  59. Hustle Strategy

Other than the party like a rockstar post that I didn’t post, it is empty. The rest is on the palm… I will probably post the party like a rockstar post, rockstar like, a few weeks after you guys get back. ‘Cause that is how real rockstars rock…
