Jake Rinard - Moremerchant.com - ShoeMoney h8r of the week!

69 people have said their piece on this post. What say you?

(amazingly the post linked to has changed significantly since this was originally written)

Jake Rinard works hard. He has made money on the internet since 1997 and has been a financial adviser since 1996!. Jake ALSO maintains a day job as a corporate business manager for a engineering company. Jake also is a Marriage and family therapist.

So why bring Jake up? Well he took time out of his 5 day job life to post about how I make him SICK! This post brought shoemoney.com a total of 112 new visitors who have never EVER visited before and of those 112, 56 of them became RSS subscribers. That is like a 50% conversion! SCORE!

The post he wrote is about how I must have cheated the feedburner stats… or something (I did not get very far… its a bit to fluffy for me and I lost interest). I would just like to officially state the technique I used was ok’d by former Feedburner Vice President Google Employee (not sure his title with feedburner there), Rick Klau.

I would just like to thank Mr Rinard for the new subscribers. I only hope I can bring him some back.

  5. Todd Mintz said on November 12th, 2007 at 5:46 pm

Of course, you’re going to send him many more visitors than he sent you…but few will likely subscribe.

  14. Jake said on November 12th, 2007 at 7:24 pm

I have read some of the comments and do want to say that I am not a h8r. In fact Shoemoney is one of the first sites I visit each day.

I was hoping to generate some great hits back and I appreciate everything that has come so far!

  15. Jake said on November 12th, 2007 at 7:34 pm

    You don’t think? hahaha.

  17. Jake said on November 12th, 2007 at 7:35 pm

Actually my site has less ads than shoe, john, and my friend Darren. But as john says we are in it to make money.. right?

  18. Mike 11|15 Media said on November 12th, 2007 at 7:48 pm

So what happened to the post? I read it as well before Shoe posted it here, but now it’s nowhere to be found.

  19. Jake said on November 12th, 2007 at 7:50 pm

    Haha, this is hilarious…

  24. Jake said on November 12th, 2007 at 8:38 pm

Never denied. I decided it was a bit more negative than I wanted. I like to remain as positive as possible. You will also take now… I changed it 24 hours before this post was posted.

  31. bmunch said on November 13th, 2007 at 2:25 am

Hey, that’s not fair. He slam you and got a linkback from you.

Now I got to write a post to slam you so that you can feature me in one of your post.

  34. John Motson said on November 13th, 2007 at 6:29 am

LOL, yea what a crappy precedent to set…. he badmouths you link.

Or is that part of a big plan Shoe… you are hoping to get all these people bad mouthing you and linking to your site… on account of this one guy.

Damn man, you think ahead :)

  35. ismar said on November 13th, 2007 at 6:47 am

what doesn’t impress me is hate, but how does shoe track all these things?

  36. Mubin said on November 13th, 2007 at 7:08 am

    Where is the advertise page?

Conversion seems to be good enough.

  37. Gecko Tales said on November 13th, 2007 at 7:34 am

There’s no such thing as bad press
Shoe just proved that phrase true

  38. Deborah Dera said on November 13th, 2007 at 8:29 am

Interesting. If you really told John what you did, and neither of you is going to say a word, I sincerely doubt cheating was involved. A legitimate technique does not have to have a long lasting impact as long as it does what you need it to do for a time and a place. Obviously, that’s what you were after. No harm. No foul.

You just posted a big fat invitation for hate mail from people just wanting a link. Great conversion rate, too. This guy may get some return temporary traffic, but you win in the end with the subscribers.

  40. Jake said on November 13th, 2007 at 8:40 am

Thanks everyone for the commenting. Yes I wrote the post hoping to benefit… Isn’t that what a site like mine does?

I asked myself how I could benefit from this RSS contest. I got thousands of free advertising so far. Pretty sweet.

  41. ***V*** said on November 13th, 2007 at 8:48 am

How did Shoe track the RSS subscription conversion from the new visitors?

  42. 賃貸 大阪 said on November 13th, 2007 at 9:49 am

So the widget wasn’t a widget but static images to throw John Chow off. Then the real number was much higher, but now it is much lower….

    So who really won?

  43. Ed said on November 13th, 2007 at 9:51 am

More crap like this, and soon you won’t be able to make any blog posts without a whole crew of people running around saying its linkbait.

  44. Money from Surveys said on November 13th, 2007 at 10:41 am

I was going to ask the same thing. What tools does Shoe use to allow him to know what visitors did what?

  45. Hustle Strategy said on November 13th, 2007 at 11:06 am

and what did they win, i am still not seeing the the banner. i guess that means chow is more evil, not posting the banner? we know who the winners are and who the losers are.

  46. Affiliate Unleashed said on November 13th, 2007 at 11:54 am

Hahaha 50% conversion is amazing. I’m curious as to how you got so many subscribers too. :D

  47. jim said on November 13th, 2007 at 2:49 pm

50% conversion rate is awesome, you should buy an ad :)

  48. BloggerDollar said on November 13th, 2007 at 3:06 pm

Haha that’s great I guess it will bring a new wave of hate posts. I hate you shoemoney :)

  49. ismar said on November 13th, 2007 at 3:36 pm

Yea… someone should email that question to him…

  50. King Jacob said on November 13th, 2007 at 4:20 pm

It definently proves that bad press is good for you if you have a good product.

  51. King Jacob said on November 13th, 2007 at 4:23 pm

He didnt really slam anyone, he just said he was disappointed.

  52. motorsportBABESau said on November 13th, 2007 at 5:19 pm

no such thing as bad press

    especially on the internets!

  53. Jon - Art of Money said on November 13th, 2007 at 7:16 pm

Google analytics. Shoe has written about it before, you set a “conversion goal” tied to RSS subscription signups.

    Quoting Limbaugh…I love it…HA!

  55. John M Weaver said on November 13th, 2007 at 7:46 pm

Bottom line you have to watch what you say…One bad comment spreads way faster than one good one. Even though I understand the mistake…you still will forever be on the ShoeMoney h8r list…booo!

  56. Jake said on November 13th, 2007 at 9:57 pm

Well.. marketing works! Negative or positive it worked out for Shoe and Me.

  58. Jake said on November 13th, 2007 at 9:59 pm

Shoe got great puc.. and I have seen a small increase in subscribers as well. Based on the amount of email traffic and advertisement requests it seems I have won as well.

  59. Neon said on November 14th, 2007 at 2:49 pm

you did bring some visitors to him. at least i went over to check out the post.

  60. serge said on November 14th, 2007 at 2:56 pm

  61. Jake said on November 15th, 2007 at 5:28 pm

Yeah, no slam, no hate just disappointed but who cares.. I am nobody to Shoe except a longtime reader who has made him a few bucks here and there.

  62. Jake said on November 15th, 2007 at 5:29 pm

My readers are some of the best. I don’t have 14000 readers but my readers are some of the best converting readers around.

  66. James B. said on December 3rd, 2007 at 3:05 pm

LOL thats funny. You really got a good conversion on that one. I bet this post infuriates him.

  67. Jake said on December 20th, 2007 at 11:11 pm

I am shocked at how lame Shoe was on this article. He removed the nofollow links after the fact. Even though I had him linked!

    Seems little to me.
