George Bush Hates Black People

By Jeremy Schoemaker 64 comments

Before this stunt my grandma had no idea who Kanye West was. Then he want on National TV with balls of steel and busted this out:

This is a classic example of when you have a quality product it doesn’t matter how you get your name out as long as you get it out.

Soon after this everyone in America knew who Kanye West was and his album sales skyrocketed also. I am a huge fan of Kanye and I give him major props for standing up and saying what he believed in back then.

This came to my mind when watching him perform on the replay of MTV’s music awards last night.

This can also hurt you. It’s not all positives. He could have easily tanked his career saying something like that. Please explain in more detail how lashing out at someone in front of millions of viewers help our personal branding. I would really like to know.

I live pretty much as far away from the US as is possible so I was wondering: how does this compare to the Dixie Chicks? When they came out against Bush, didn’t they see a massive backlash?

Honest naive curiosity here… is there a difference in the situations?

I agree with what Kanya West said though. I saw the news clips on yahoo which said that there white people were so desperate that they were stealing food…and then showed the same clip with black people and they were looting.

Kanute - where are you from? I doubt you’re from the south here. Have you been into New Orleans or any of the gulf areas since or after the hurricane - if so what were your thoughts? I was down here frequently helping - my company allowed me to come down with another employee at the time to help with our distributors to help their families and businesses get back up and running. So I have my opinion backed with fact.

Does GW hate black people? Absolutely - why would he - I can’t remember the last time I met or ran across a black oil man!!! He hates white people too - actually he hates us more!!! Indians, Hispanics, Europeans, Chinamen, etc…he hates them too!!! If you aren’t from the Saudi royal family, or an oil man from here in Houston or Dallas then you really don’t rate.

Here’s the dilly though - I like Kayne’s music - personally this stunt turned me off of him. And this is why - he was “asked” by the Red Cross (and I’m sure Mike Meyeres and Chris Tucker have their opinion too) but he was asked by the Red Cross to help assist those families and try to convince people whom looked to him as a role model to help donate, or help send items, etc… whatever they could do. To my knowledge the air-time they were given was “donated to the R.C.” for this purpose.

SOOOOOOO… Kayne used “his time” to help the R.C. to shameless promote himself. So he believes Bush hates black families - how on earth does that statement “actually help” a family who is in need of water, shelter, food, etc.???? It doesn’t. What it does do - is turn the attention/focus away from having some young black or white kid who looks up to him and maybe has some time away from college or who gets that ephiphany to make change (positive change) and they wind up running around and beotching that Bush hates black people - that statement doesn’t feed families -and it certainly didn’t do much just turned part of the attention over to Kayne. So kudos to Kayne for standing up for what he believed in - that’s wonderful - how about doing it on his own dime.

The other thing I failed to mention about this was that this wasn’t a race issue at all - I worked in the HVAC/Sheet Metal business and a lot of my friends who ran businesses down in Metarie and Slidell (areas that were wiped out) were black and white… there was no one color of people that the hurricane targeted - and bush could have cared less about the color of people at that point too - he cared though that the governor of the state was a democrat. I have friends in Gulfport and so forth that we wetn and helped and Mississippi was getting funding and fast - why? Becuase of the republican affiliation!

FYI - Kanute - in closing you’re entitled to your opinion - arm yourself with the facts though before you state something - not everything is about race and color. It is however about political affiliations sadly enough.

Maybe Mayor Ray Nagin doesn’t like black people either? It looks like he and the Governor misused funds that were sent to repair the levies. Oh no, he has to like black people…he is black right?

If Ray Nagin were white, Kanye could have said, “George Bush and Ray Nagin don’t like black people”. The way Ray Nagin mishandled the funds for repair and the evacuation and rescue effort, he did nobody any favors. If he were white, Kanye would be pointing at him claiming his idiocy was intentional.

What happed with the Dixie Chicks was different because a large percentage of their listening base is patriotic and to that part of our nation, they took offense to it because in a round about way it said they were “stupid” for their decision of electing this president. (i.e. don’t call your fans stupid)

As for Kanye, his listening base is already somewhat frustrated with government (on many levels not just the Katrina thing) in the first place so he wasn’t saying anything that they didn’t already agree with…that being said, I still think it wasn’t very professional to do that, but then again I agree with Shoe it was a ballsey move, if you ever want to get anywhere in the world today you’ve got to stick your neck out there. If you’re not will to take the risk, don’t get into business especially the entertainment industry.

I’m surprised they didn’t cut him early since he wasn’t ever reading the teleprompter in the first place. That was just a train wreck waiting to happen. Oh and Mike Meyers face was priceless. I totally agree with Jamaipanese with his comment.

From a marketing standpoint, I think it only works if you’re as great and as talented as Kanye West is. Not everyone can say that and get away with it, but there is no denying Kanye West amazing, game changing music. So any attention is good attention for him.

Now everyone can call Kanye West insane and discredit him for it. Kind of the same thing as what the media did to Al Gore with the inventing the Internet quote. I like Kayne West, he’s a good producer and an ok lyricist. But gimmie a break with all this self rightous black shit. I’m not racist at all and racism is idiotic but equally so is positive racism and making things which don’t exist an issue. I live in the UK so I suppose I can’t really compromise as much as racism in my mind has never been an issue here only toward people from pakistan etc because of terrorism but never black and white. But I can’t stand black people to day who try and make out they are victims, statistics show there are more poor white people than black anyway and all this bullshit about trying to make out there is still mass racism against black people is ridiculous. Slavery was abolished before Kayne West even close to existed yet he still likes to think he can claim it simply because he is black. It’s wrong and so to is the allowance of letting black people say ‘the n word’ simply because they’re black. If the word is so offensive then it shouldn’t be said at all, black people today haven’t been through slavery so they have the same rights as us and no more right to use that word. Kayne is warped by black society of the US and positive racism and the idea that the white man still hates the black. Pathetic.

I do not believe everyone is this or that however you have to understand slavery did not end discrimination and jim crow laws replaced slavery in the south. However, although Kanye was not alive during the jim crow south days, his parents and grandparents were and they were apart of the blatant racism towards minorities in the united states. In addition, although laws have changed, it will take a few generations to distance ourselves from the unfortunate legacy in the United States. In addition, many of the negative issues in the african american community are a legacy from the slavery to jim crow etc days and it will that many generations to resolve the mistrust and other issues such as educational obtainment .

I think you need to read a little bit more about the jim crow south

I felt he could have handled it better, but I respect the dude for his principles being a bigger driving force than money or record sales.

The world of entertainment is filled with Tiger Woods who are PC and down the middle on everything. Sometimes it’s nice to see people speak their minds w/o fear of consequence.

they got a strong voice from kayne? how so? kayne west gave a strong voice to himself! he pulled the oldest card that black or ethnic entertainers can pull which is the “race/minorty” card… he hopped in that vehicle and drove it straight to the bank! ohhhh kayne cashed in - on the backs of those black folks who were starving and standing on roof tops down there. kayne was on Red Cross /donated air time… and using it to “pimp” himself. i think it’s great actually - but don’t sit here and tell me that kayne really was a saint - he wasn’t nor is he.

like i said - it’s irrelevant of his thoughts and views - he was on red cross time that was donated - every second of that time was for the people of new orleans - how can you put a $ value to what kayne west said - other than to reach out to the young blacks who were watching that - that are malcontents or looking to get fired up on something - there we go - let’s all run out and get a kayne west t-shirt… again great for kayne west - bad for the blacks in new orleans.

martin there is a saying that my dad used - you can paint a turd any color you like - at the end of the day - it’s still a turd though.

i have black and white friends - close friends who were down in metairie and slidell and who literally got leveled - that was a stupid thing for kayne west to say whether or not he was on tv… i mean do it at one of his concerts or on another venue/another time. i’m saying it was inappropriate on the timing - when my company sent us down there - we had “1″ mission which was to help our friends who were our customers. we didn’t have time to sit around and beotch about george bush, etc. however i did hear grumblings from some of my friends who saw that crap - we all needed and still did a great job of all pulling together - but that kind of little stunt/antic really took the wind out of the sails - even while GW had dropped the ball bigtime.

not to mention it wasn’t a black/white issue at all - it was a republican/democrat issue. if louisiana had a republican governor they would have had their aid/supplies from the government at breakneck speed. there ya have it… i know it’s hard to see sometimes but not everything is black/white issues. at the end of the day - it’s about people. and whether people are motivated to act. same thing on the internet.

You can look at this from two different sides. One is marketing and the other is ethical or moral. Marketing wise, its brilliant. You want to get your name out there, you want to become popular, what better than make bold statements in media and press ? The fortune 500 companies spend millions on marketing their products, Kanye just used a smater way.
Now morally or ethically, its a different thing. You can find so many negative things about Kanye’s methods and statements.

One great thing about America is you can sell MILLIONS of albums and have dozens of hit songs and not everyone and their grandmother will know who you are.

There are many successful rappers that have sold loads of records and most Middle America grandmas have never heard of them.

Just as there as Country singers who are HUGE in their genre and NO ONE in a lot of urban areas have any clue who they are.
