When I first heard of the Million Dollar Wiki I first thought of the milliondollarhomepage. You know the story some dude sold pixels and made money. Hell I even dropped $100 on it for 1 pixel that you cant even see. To my surprise I did get a few hits from it…. not many but a few.. It was more for just to say “I was apart of it” more then anything else really.
So I heard about this site called Million Dollar Wiki and my first instinct was … ya… right another pixel page. But then a few weeks back John Chow wrote about the page and how he was seeing some nice traffic from it. I still was a little hesitant but I just keep seeing more and more people investing in this thing and I thought… damn maybe this boat is going to float after all??
So last week I purchased a page for $100 for Free Ringtones. In about 10 minutes I received a reply with my user name and password. I logged in and made my page… took about 30 mins or so (most of the time was spent getting images). I have spammed edited wikipedia enough I was familiar with the wysiwyg editor to make my page. If you haven’t used the editor it takes a minute to get used to some of the functions but its pretty easy to learn.
SO what to put on my page…. Well I wanted to do 2 things.
1) I wanted to make a post that there REALLY ARE FREE RINGTONE sites out there where people can get there ringtones for free.
2) I wanted to drive traffic to my free ringtone site.
So I made a basic review site but of course I listed my Free Ringtone site as the first one and its the only one with a hyper link… Some may think this is sneaky… I say smart. ufeelme?.
I set this up last Thursday then I kind of forgot about it. After all… the site owner says the pages will be online for a MINIMUM 15 years. This was something I was not planning on coming back to for a while.
So this morning I was looking at my Nextpimp statistics and low and behold… it had sent almost 180 unqiue visitors of which 2 purchased a premium membership to the website. Now the Nextpimp Premium membership is $19.95 per 6 months and it auto renews… so if these people stay on board for 2 cycles I already have almost broke even in… 4 days superhot! Now I don’t expect this to happen much but one thing is for sure - I will for sure get my money back.
So I wonder where the traffic came from… I looked for a “new sites” or something listed but could not find one. Then I checked out the forums and wow there is a lot of people talking in there. This thing might be a hit after all. A lot of the people talking in the forums area all talking about how they are making money from there million dollar wiki page.
The dude who owns it has sold almost 500 pages…. which translates to 50k! Being the site started about a month ago I would say thats pretty fricking good. unlike million dollar homepage I have actually gotten a measurable return on my investment.
Here is the bottom line. People are buying great keyword related domains everyday on this site. Are you going to take a chance for only $100 that you missed the boat on your niche? I am not.
Its definitely not a site thats going to last forever, since its basically all a free ad, but I’m jealous of his success already.
exactly. its all ads, so only advertisers would go there, so the only people that will view the pages are advertisers and curious blog readers. kudos to his success tho
I take that back, I guess it’s not all ads… it’s crazy though. dude’s already got over $115,000
They allow reselling the pages so that could make for some interesting arbi results for anyone clever enough to grab popular keywords/phrases before anyone else.
Reselling a page? hmmm. I wonder how that’s going to play out. Will it last for 15 years? I wonder about that too. I think a lot about the future of the Internet. Will we even have domain names in ten years? Will TV and Internet be one? If so, will that turn the Internet into another entity that is controlled by big media?
You could just resell the login no..?
I think domain names will still be there
Once enough investment has been made in a particular technology it becomes entrenched and makes it painfully difficult for the marketplace to transition to anything else. Look at how tough it is to kick the gasoline habit in our autos.
I’d put my money on domain names sticking around… In fact, I have — I just bought Blog Advertising.
What a clever idea! The links will be worth it as their pagerank gets up there and it looks like their alexa rank is under 25k… sign me up
I would think Google would look at this site as “paid links” and eventually penalize them.
no one wants to link to an ad page, google will never give these pages a high pagerank
I remember when his website first started. My first visit there and he had sold maybe 3 pages. I thought to myself, this thing is NEVER going to take off. Then social bookmarkers and a couple of A-listers got a hold of it and boy did it take off. I’ve been proven wrong… yet again :).
All it takes is that first boost by a few big names! Unfortunately, that is hard to come by for many folks, including myself haha
Or a 400 dollar reviewme from one “A-liste” will work to
thats a pretty awesome deal to already have 2 signups and 180 visits froma site that just got crankin.

I bought a site but haven’t made anything yet. Mine is the “Dating Site”. Lots of clicks but probably just from curious people who are thinking of buying.
I do not think this will work. How would I care about grabbing some popular keywords/phrases on a site like this?!! You can always get a address like http://abc.com/Free_Ringtones .
but you can’t get the traffic they will drive to your own page with just any site.
But where does the traffic comes from??
I can’t believe that site can bring you more traffic than Squidoo which is free.
Is it PPC traffic?
Tried a couple of search for some keywords and this site never ranked in the first 100 results in Google.
i completely agree. million dollar wiki is a stupid investment.
I tend to doubt when someone says “permanent link” or in this case “guaranteed 15 years”… it does not sound real, plus like the million dollar homepage, it can be a hit for a few months, but then the traffic collapses and in a year or two from now no one would remember or visit. It seems that everyone wants to use the gimmick of “million dollar”, but I think people are more cautious nowadays and won’t swallow the bait so easily.
Congrats to the dude that started it. $50K in a month is amazing!
Also if only 500 page have been sold there must still be a whole swag sweet keyword rich URLs up for grabs.
I hadn’t actually heard of it before this post. But I decided that I’d like to give it a shot, I bought the page for the City I live in, that should give me some leverage for local businesses and linking. Who knows….
Well hot dang, I need to hop on this fast sailing ship
Considering your post about fast fingers = fast money, how come you have not snapped up Shoemoney?
I dont think theres much money to be made in being a shoemoney affiliate
Hey I own the Money page on MDW http://www.milliondollarwiki.com/Money and I am posting the earning of those on the site. Soon I will be adding a lot more to the page. But for now if you want an idea check it out.
Dude you’re gonna single handedly make that site big. You should have asked for a stake in it before making this post
i wonder why there are just
Dang, I looked at this before, but now need to look at it again!
I’ve got http://www.milliondollarwiki.com/united_kingdom and bought http://www.milliondollarwiki.co.uk to map onto it.
One google adsesne block has made me $120.
So in a word: yes
Not a bad idea!
Rhys you should be added on the Money Page drop my a email wikimoney@gmail.com and I will get you added ASAP. http://www.milliondollarwiki.com/Money
Unbelievable. lemme try my hands too
Nice tip! Thanks
I want to buy one because it wouldnt be that hard to break even, Im just not sure which keyword to go with that will still be around and valuable in 15 years.
porn is free @ king jacob
Nobody thinks google’s gonna nuke this for “selling links” ????
With the payback periods most people are reporting sounds like it is still worth the risk.
I really don’t see why Google would though.
If they nuke this site they would have to nuke all the paid directory sites too - including yahoo’s paid directory.
Hi Shoe, Thanks for this. That is cheap advertising for 15 years. i have wasted a whole heap in newspapers over years, and the ads only last a day and they’re in the bin.
Can’t get adult themed keywords. But there is a nice list of keywords on the site on the very top in the middle.
I don’t know how long it will last either, but it definately has a better model then MDHomepage - with people behind the site and content on pages. It will def last 2 or 3 years and that’s all you need to make a great claim in it. If the reselling of keywords go big - it will last a lot longer.
I signed up and after an hour and a half still have no user name and password. How long did it take to get yours?

Sign ups are done manually - so with 80 sales in one day - Graham will busy all afternoon setting up your accounts. I don’t think he will be attending classes today:)
Oh Thanks! I didnt know it was a manual process.
Congrats to his success on making over $8,000 today phew.
After I bought it 8 hours ago, still no reply from him.
Beware.
I just bought the personal-finance page there yesterday to see if it will drive traffic to my financial blog. It took about 3 hours to get my login info and I just threw up something there today, at least temporarily til I figure out how to best use it.
Thanks…
I bought a page.
Just checked out that page and found the web directory aviva or whatever it was called, bought a listing on there.
As far as ring tones go, I wish people would realize how easy it is to make your own :/
I bought “Coupon Codes” after reading John Chows review. Everyone has told me that I wasted $100.00. So I have been trying to prove them wrong. So far they are right. I haven’t made any money back yet. But I guess I have 15 years to do so!!!
Thanks for buying a page. Maybe it will boost my traffic!!

Planning on getting any additional pages?
I wanna buy a page too. I am reading how it works.

If you have a small advertising budget you should get a Million dollar wiki page to act as a bridge page (I think that is the right terminology for it). I got the page Money Making Blog last month and I have already had good traffic coming from the page. Or if you just want to monetize a single page you could do that with your wiki page. $100 is chump change for anyone.
damn ! shoe should be guru or something, I just read the blog and got caught buying
2 wikis, now I hope this thing will generate enough traffic to have me make my money back
thanks for the tips.

Holy crap nuts… Actually, I never heard of such a thing until reading this. Sounds like a steal
One hundred dollars is to much money for this wiki, zero page rank and very little traffic.
How do you mean little traffic ? Did you check alexa ? This site gets a lot of traffic
Although Alexa doesn’t mean much… this Wiki will get tons of hits in the coming months. I bet major news organizations will mention it a few times, plus bloggers like Shoe giving it some love. It’s a unique idea, it will bring in quite a bit of traffic (for now anyway)
And it’s a pretty safe bet that page rank will find its way to the site in the next update with all the link love this site is getting!
For those sitting on the fence about this, why not give it a roll? Think about it, two big name bloggers in ShoeMoney and John Chow have bought in. Yeah, they are self promoting but due to this self interest, they will KEEP on advertising for the MDW, which increases traffic for all and creates a spill over effect onto your page. I bought the Stock Picks page which I just feel compelled to mention
For anyone that is still sitting on the fence, you have two big name bloggers like ShoeMoney and John Chow who bought it. I think the day after John blogged about it, MDW sold 70 pages, and now 80 pages with ShoeMoney. This is exactly why I bought my page Stock Picks page. This is indirectly free publicity. It’s in their best interest to blog about it and they will create a spill over effect onto your pages…
I baught a page, havn’t heard back from it yet, but I am very excited about the posablities. If nothing else, it will be a huge directory. Anybody know of simular sites?
Hey, well done Shoe, glad you’re on board … this is really starting to get legs now with some great mainstream media. A few weeks ago i bought 3 pages and they’re going great guns now.

I cant see why you wouldn’t buy at least 1 page. Most people I know spen more than $100 dollars on 1 nights drinking. This is a 15 year investment for such a small amount. personally i have purchsed 3 and the hits just keep on comming.

At $100 a page or $90 with a coupon how can you possibly lose. I know people who spend more than that on a nights drinking. Happy to see big names on board and with over 100 pages sold in the last 48 hours the momentum is really starting to build. Get on board before it’s too late.

Graham made more money from shoe with the blog. amazing.
[...] Then ShoeMoney hit. Good old ‘Shoe bought a page on the Wiki. So is Shoemoney more influential than John Chow on the internet? Undoubtedly, the answer is yes. Today Shoemoney wrote a post about the Million Dollar Wiki, and his page for free ringtones. Well, the Million Dollar Wiki sold 120 pages today, netting Graham a cool 12,000. These sales are undoubtedly thanks to Shoemoney, and it’s almost twice the number of sales John Chows post riled up. [...]

One caveat: you can’t sell your page until Graham sells 10,000 pages. That might take a while….
Folks we have to mount a serious marketing campaign to get a return on our investment!
Looks like an interesting site. Will have to look into it & see if it can bring some real traffic.
