Apple Quad Core 3Ghz G5 With Dual 30″ Monitors

by Jeremy Schoemaker on September 7, 2007 · 89 comments

Ok so I get asked a lot for updated pictures of my office and what Kind of computer I use.

I have a Apple Quad core:

Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro2,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 3 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per processor): 8 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz

So thats 8 total cores of power! WOOT!

I also have 2 30″ Apple cinema displays. I think the whole rig cost just under 10k or so. Worth every penny!

On the monitor to the left I usually monitor logs and keep chat/email windows open on the right I do my main stuff coding/surfing/watching movies

Here are so photos of me at work today… while eating Taco Bell.

Apple 30 inch monitor

Very nice. I’ve got the original Woodcrest 2.66 Mac Pro and it is one hell of a machine. Couldn’t imagine having another 20GHz of processor.

Hi thats actually a full size sony 60″ grand wega that I had built into the wall. I could not find anything close to the picture quality so I just built it into the wall then had a wood frame made around it.

You can see the before pictures here with the tv and speaker holes framed out-

(I should probably do a post on the evolution of my office)

Slick set up. Looks like you have networking set up throughout. Those 30″ Cinema’s must be damn nice to use everyday…nothing beats a huge monitor (or 2)…and a good chair.

Reply

31 TOMBALLTX September 7, 2007 at 8:40 pm

yeah tell the guy who did that – he did a really really nice job (& if u did that yourself kudos to u)… i like the looks of it – as you can’t tell at all – and that’s a really crisp pic i thought. i would have swore that was a plasma / lcd and then hung on the wall with a picture frame around it.

i just think it looks so much better when you have a wooden frame – ahhh sorta disappointing though as we’ll have to continue our search… :(

post the evol of ur office – i’d like to read that – i always like to read about other peoples offices and workspaces – i was supposed to have my own from a year ago in my new office, however my real boss moved in and she never moved out, workspace diminished, my A.D.D. kicks in full force in between the blaring hispanic music and the cackling at customers/friends/relatives at ear shattering decibels… so i say green with envy… please share!!! i have to live vicariously! :) by the way that’s a nice big work space too…

Having two monitors definitely helps me. My productivity increased drastically especially since now AIM etc.. doesn’t popup infront of my work but on the other screen and i can choose to respond or not.

Paul, Shoe(and others with the same thoughts), please. don’t read this is if I am being a wise-ass. I really mean this question honest;y … becuase it’s something “I am about” both on line and off …

How dd you “justify” having two 20″ monitors in the first place? I believe you can get enough increased productivity from two monitors as opposed to one to “justify” the cost/occasional hassle/desktop space … but that’s a feeling … I have no data to back it up.

If there’s an actual process you went through to “justify” dual monitors, then how would you further quantify the proces to decide between 17″, 20″, 30″ etc.?

Or is it becuase dual monitors are kewl and you just won’t spend extra for bigger?

That is a Universal Remote by Marantz. It’s a touchscreen – 2 hander and can be personalized to run multiple home theatre systems and home audio etc. I prefer the line from Logitech personally – way easier to program.
