As some of you know I am speaking on “Making Money With Contextual Advertising” next week in San Jose, CA Search Engine Strategies Conference. I am doing some last minute case studies/ testing for my preso so if you see some weird ads on the side (below the paid placements) I am playing a bit. It will be my 3rd time speaking on the panel that will be moderated by Danny Sullivan.

Best of luck on the panel, I wish I could be there
August 13, 2007 at 12:29 pm
Good luck with your presentation. I am sure you have a lot to talk about!
August 13, 2007 at 9:34 am
I’m especially interested in what Frind has to say, being that I haven’t heard him speak publicly before.
August 13, 2007 at 6:49 am
a podcast would be helpful if you post.
August 13, 2007 at 6:36 am
In fact i already clicked once
just my 2 cents to shoe
August 13, 2007 at 6:32 am
this is a wretched trick…more noticing means more clicks….and especially with some hot chicks in bikini.
August 13, 2007 at 6:19 am
Hey, the ads are all normal now……
August 12, 2007 at 6:02 am
This looks promising…
August 12, 2007 at 6:00 am
Now there’s a yahoo ad via google.
August 12, 2007 at 5:54 am
There are some non-contextual ads here, ya know!
August 12, 2007 at 5:49 am
Actually, I am not even seing sidebar
August 11, 2007 at 1:27 pm
It was showing hairy potter ads anyways =P.
August 11, 2007 at 12:36 pm
Could be interesting
August 11, 2007 at 12:00 pm
Its funny that AuctionAds are gone
August 11, 2007 at 9:38 am
I just noticed you’re mixing and matching contextual ads from several providers. Part of some top secret experiment? In any case they appear to be right on context now.
August 11, 2007 at 8:54 am
I wish your speech can be video taped, shared on youtube.
August 10, 2007 at 10:56 pm
We all should wait for the results of this, the case might be about ads/position/rotation, etc… we don’t and we shouldn’t know about this unless that’s part of the study.
Everyone looking at the ads, because there is something different, even if it’s not relevant.
August 10, 2007 at 10:33 pm
I don’t think they stand out in a bad way. The extra ads shouldn’t hurt anything.
August 10, 2007 at 9:11 pm
Damn I dont see a bikini
August 10, 2007 at 9:11 pm
I love how you make changes on the live site. Thats exactly how I roll too!
August 10, 2007 at 5:40 pm
Isn’t that the best kind of advertising?
August 10, 2007 at 5:39 pm
Grivon – your website isn’t working
August 10, 2007 at 5:37 pm
He almost got me
Sounds like a great panel.
August 10, 2007 at 4:22 pm
I spot some google image contextual skyscapers (rather than traditional text ads) under the azoogle ads on the right. Currently, two ads for women’s apparel including a “Dress-A-Day Giveaway”. Context is way off obviously as I don’t think this represents the bulk of the Shoemoney readership somehow!
August 10, 2007 at 2:55 pm
the only thing I noticed was a hot chick in a bikini. I have no idea what it was advertising though
August 10, 2007 at 1:40 pm
maybe he is wanting to test if he announces changes to ads if people actually look at them more, even if he has or hasn’t made any changes…. as he isn’t asking for clicks just notifying you that there is changes… which i would be gets more people to look and possibly click.
August 10, 2007 at 1:19 pm
Do you plan to post any results here?
August 10, 2007 at 1:06 pm
I must remember that one, mess around with the ads, tell everyone and then see how curious people are. Great way to increase visitor numbers.
August 10, 2007 at 1:03 pm
Sometimes when I play with my ads things come out way better. Other times they flop. I can at least change them back. You learn a lot from tweaking and playing.
August 10, 2007 at 12:49 pm
I did – I saw linkworth instead of TLA.
August 10, 2007 at 12:41 pm
True, it really depends on what you’re testing. If you’re testing whether announcing new ads increases CTR, then it’s cool.
August 10, 2007 at 12:28 pm
For those of you that are going to be at the conference I highly recommend getting them to review your site at the end of the session. I implemented some of the changes that were suggested and I more then doubled our adsense income.
August 10, 2007 at 12:01 pm
Maybe that is the goal
August 10, 2007 at 11:59 am
I don’t think many people will notice, especially after this is off of the front page.
August 10, 2007 at 11:35 am
I haven’t noticed and “off” ads on the sidebar yet.. I have however noticed another google adsense skyscraper – just figured you were short on cash… JOKES :p
Actually on a sidenote… your targeting is off… WAY off!! I’m looking at an ugly brown ad for “women’s shoes” – maybe there’s one to many shoes around this neck of the woods then eh!? :p
Good luck at the presentation!!
August 10, 2007 at 11:28 am
Er, by announcing advertising changes you’ve already skewed the results of your study.
August 10, 2007 at 11:04 am
I with there’d be advertising panels in my country. The most I’ve seen is a panel hosted by THE auction site dealing here and it was crap, just trying to get more affiliates.
