Any Lawyers Or People Who Have Good Knowledge Of Internet Legal Issues?

By Jeremy Schoemaker 35 comments

I get a lot of legal questions from time to time and would like to share the questions and answers to them with readers. I am trying to assemble a list of legal people to query when we have a legal issue. You do not have to reveal your real name unless you want to.

Just shoot me a email jeremy@

I have a great lawyer I use for my real estate issues. I’ll forward this post to him and see if he is interested in helping you out.

Hey shoe, I’ll drop you a line if you need some assistance. I’ve been an Internet attorney for a long time and counsel to some of the largest Internet sites. I’ve been glad to have the benefit of hearing much of your good advice and glad to help out if I can.

FYI - I represent many Internet marketers. Almost all of my practice relates to online legal issues. Check out some of the testimonials on my site.

As an attorney, I can tell you that anybody who volunteers their services for any and all Internet-related stuff should probably be avoided. Attorneys are licensed only in their particular state, offering legal “advice” over the Internet to someone out of state (assuming its not a federal issue, and few are) is a violation of nearly every state’s bar rules.

You might consider adding Rob Otte with the Morrow Poppe Otte Firm in Lincoln, NE to your list. Rob has represented us well in the past in matters regarding domain registration and trademark infringement.

I have a fantastic lawyer who is currently helping to sort out a very unpleasant legal battle between me and my sister. I’ll see if I can find some details.

    Shoe
I am not a lawyer but, I do think its a bad idea to share legal advise on any blog. Especially because there is nothing genaral about the law, as it applies differently to each person or entity.. So someone could accidently apply what has worked for you or others and find themselves in a legal shit storm..Your intentions are good im sure!

Lawyers are a pain, when I tried to get someone to trademark a website slogan it was the biggest hassle. Hopefully the guy above can help you. Good luck with this!

I too have an attorney who specializes in internet law right here in Illinois. He doesn’t mind answering questions from time to time as long as I keep it brief ;) So shoot away.

Maybe he could post the advice with some sort of “you should still consult your lawyer” warning?

One of my best friends from high school is actually studying this at law school as we speak…though I am assuming you’d probably want someone a little more established…I’ll have to ask if he knows anyone.

There are so few attorneys that really understand Internet legal issues. Of course, I’m sure many will tell you they understand it. In my experience attorneys will say anything to land a client.
