back home back on track

by Jeremy Schoemaker on July 22, 2007 · 57 comments

Sorry its been so slow posting. In the last 2 weeks I went from 5 days in Miami to NYC then to Moline IL then I just got home.

Some big things happening ;)

So now just catching up on email for the last 2 weeks and returning calls from people who think I am ignoring them =(

I just found out today that Marcus Frind will be joining the “Making Money With Contextual Advertising” panel in SES San Jose so that was really cool news. Marcus owns the Plenty Of Fish dating website and kills it in contextual revenue. If people thought I put up some big checks just wait until that panel… course his is in canadian… jk =P

Well, the Canadian dollar will probably be at par by then – it is around 96 cents right now.

That’s going to be one serious panel to get on board with.

Good to have you back, Shoe.

Please please please look into Auction Ad issues – I have over a dozen “made for Auction Ads” sites that are all F’ed right now because AA is displaying non-related ads – I’ve got DJ equipment sites showing Chanel handbags and Timeshare sites showing Wii games – HELP!

I’ve emailed AA support 3 times and have gotten one “We’ll fix it in 24 hours” – that was over a week ago.

For some sites, I re-generate and publish the code and the ads will match the keywords for a few hours – then they show irrelevant ads once again. Other keywords – like “timeshare” – won’t even generate correctly.

In fact, for this blog – shoemoney.com – I’m seeing Chanel sunglasses ads.

Don’t want you to publish this comment – I’m a big fan of you and Auction Ads – just thought this would be the best way to inform you.

Thanks,
John

i saw marcus on the today show. this guy hit it big with adsense. He’s one of my main motivators. You gotta see his “office”…

You don’t know me, but I was having Shoemoney withdrawal and believe you me that is not a pretty sight!

And congrats on the H2! I’d have gone for a Dodge Ram or a Ford Powerstroke personally, but yeah that’s just me.

And yes I know that was a long time ago for the H2 but I figured I’d mention it since it was in the related posts :)

The thing is he owns the whole website to himself, so all the profits are his. His adsense check is enough to live on. For more info try youtube or google it, his story is definitely an inspiration for webmasters trying to make money online.

Well – the comment was published.

I don’t want to give the wrong impression – Auction Ads has been fantastic – but in the last 7-10 days the keyword matching hasn’t been working well at all.

It’s impossible to monetize when the ads have zero relevance.

I use the keyword of my ebay sellerid – this means it shows my auctionads on ebay when they are there otherwise it shows the best converting items on ebay.

If you want to email me the sites I will look into it but we have not had any targeting issues.

Thanks, Shoe.

I replaced all the code last night and so far so good – it usually takes a couple of hours for AA to start showing irrelevant ads – I’ll shoot you an email when this occurs.

Thanks for the great customer care – I appreciate your time.

Anyone think he should change the look of the site? Seems dated. But that may add to the appeal. :)

Jeremy, thank you for the link to your “pops” web site One thing you failed to mention was the fact that I didn’t know how to turn a computer on three years ago. Due to the fact that you kept prompting me to do a fishing web site and the name suggested by your wife “J”, WhereIFish.com, it has all jelled into a fishing forum website that is growing bigger every day.

All this, wouldn’t be happening without your encouragement and knowledge. Thanks so much, Dad
