Business 2.0 Top 50 People Who Matter Now

by Jeremy Schoemaker on June 19, 2007 · 33 comments

Business 2.0 has published there list of the top 50 people who matter right now.

On the list there are a lot of names I like and respect:

Michael ArringtonTechcrunch creator – dude is rock solid in his opinions. Very high integrity guy who always gives both sides of the story (when there is one). He covered the whole mybloglog saga and gave me some great advice on moving on. Congrats Mike!

Jason Calacanis – I really have a lot of respect for Calacanis. He gets it. Hes the guy baiting the “expert” link baiters. He plays SEO people like a fiddle. He also has agreed to come on Net Income (but doesnt return my emails =( ). I enjoy watching him spin. Congrats Jason! (Jason also got the 2nd highest votes from readers).

Arianna HuffingtonHer blog was one of the first ones I ever read daily. I hardly ever agree with her but she writes with passion. Also Arianna recently got 5 million in VC funding to do more stuff with her blog… pretty impressive. Congrats Arianna!

People I dont think should be on the list:

Arnold Schwarzenegger
– jigga what?

Barry Diller
– Ok so the spyware/arbitrage search engine company Ask.com might be somewhat 2.0 but do you know that most of IAC’s revenue comes from Home Shopping Network and TicketMaster? Ya so why do you matter right now again? Congrats you buried Jeaves and now he is rolling over in his grave.

I still debate whether Calcanis is purposely baiting people or he just runs off at the mouth way too much. Either way he’s annoying but it’s tough to argue with results. We’ll see how Mahalo does…

All due respect to your comments about Jason Calcanis, being an asshole, even if you benefit from it, is not the same as being a genius.

really? You cant be a asshole and a genius? I would disagree.

I disagree on Schwarzenegger.

He might not be the best businessman but he is quite a good example of an overall succesful person. It’s almost like he makes it to the top at whatever he is doing – let it be bodybuilding, acting, politics, etc. He, in a way, uses his past achievments to get new ones, but I guess there is nothing so wrong about that.

And though I might disagree with a lot of what he says, he is still noteworty.

Jason Calacanis is a nobody who doesn’t know anything.

Right he has had a amazing career and a really good american feelgood story but this is about the top 50 people that matter RIGHT NOW and I just feel like he should not be on that list

Hey, sign me up for a tasty piece of that $5m!

In all seriousness, that was a pretty decent list. I disagreed with a few of their choices but no top 10/20/50/100 list is perfect.

i honestly agree with that .

Well, he is the governor of California, which is, to my knowledge, one of the biggest states. And if he had something to say, I’m pretty sure he could grab people’s attention quickly (unlike many other people). I guess that alone makes him important.

However, yeah, it’s kinda impossible to objectively decide who does matter and who doesn’t at the moment so arguing about such lists doesn’t really have any point.

oh no, you can absolutely both be an asshole and a genius – i simply think with calcanis, his assholery is simply mistaken for genius

I don’t buy for a second that Calicanis is baiting. He genuinely believes what he says about SEO, and happens to be in the perfect linkbait position.

Although he is a success in about everything he has ever attempted, he’s really not on the cutting edge of anything currently.

I’d go as far to say most geniuses are assholes.

Most of them are, I second that.

I think being Governor now and being married to the inimitable Maria Shriver give The Terminator some kind of billable significance.

He’s not a nobody — just not somebody I’d want to recognize, I guess.

However you look at it, lists are always going to be relative. Oh, and Arianna with that $5 — anybody know if she’s looking for a BFF?

My thoughts exactly. What kind of programming do you need on a blog that cost 5 million. Maybe shes doing advertising?

You know what they say, It just takes a dollar and a dream, I have noticed that most of the BIG guys just shoot for the sky and don’t look back…

A lot of us little guys give up to easy ….

I haven’t but I see so many that do….
