Joe Preston On PPC

joe prestonMy favorite PPC search engine is SuperPages. I’ve been using it and recommending it to people for years but I still find lots of good low competition keywords. SuperPages, which was owned by Verizon until the online part of their business was spun off as Idearc Media, is a big PPC advertiser for online yellow pages, local search and the like. The huge advantage of this is that your market targets itself very well, and there aren’t as many people searching to evaluate products or be entertained (most people dont read the phone book for fun). These people are seriously trying to locate a product or service that they need right away, as a result the conversions are significantly better than most PPC, so you get some unexpected bang for the buck. Because it is designed to serve customers who don’t necessarily want to run ads all over the country, you can get excellent granular data on local keyword performance. The SuperPages staff has always been extremely helpful, whipping up spreadsheets for me when I need them, dumping out reams of keyword data for me to select from, this is in part because they make more $$$ off a national advertiser than from a brake shop in Gary Indiana. Working with them was the first and only time I ever felt like a big fish (sniff).

Hey man, love your blog, hope I am not too late with this, because superpages has always really paid off for me..

Interesting, I never really considered advertising on SuperPages because I don’t know anyone who uses Superpages… good idea though.

My roomate sells health insurance for Afflac. I’m getting ready to do a geo targeted campaign for him. I’ll look into super pages.

I’ll have to check this one out. Superpages seems like a great tool for local marketing.

I have never heard of superpages. From what you say I see that it has to be good to go and try it.

I dunno…I use superpages for my fathers travel site and even though it does have the cheap traffic, i dont see much of a conversion from it. I guess it would really depend on your market but not to great for travel so far from what i see.
