eBay devconDave and I are headed to the eBay Developers Conference . I have never been to any this event before and we are really excited to be apart of it. If you are going to be at Devcon and you see me please stop by and say hello.

I will be speaking in 2 sessions:

Affiliate Industry Summit
Jeremy “Shoe Money” Schoemaker, CK, Alex Schultz, Lily Shen (moderator)
We are gathering experts from the affiliate world to come talk about the state of the industry. Real life affiliate all-stars join eBay affiliate team leaders to discuss. How can developers succeed as affiliates? How do you run a successful affiliate business? How can eBay make its affiliate program better? These questions and more will be discussed in this panel.

And

SEO
Jeremy “Shoe Money” Schoemaker
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of optimizing your web site to gain maximum visibility from internet search engines. Given the importance of search engine traffic for all web businesses, it makes sense to invest in SEO to ensure that potential visitors or customers can find your site. Jeremy “Shoemoney” Schoemaker is a leading expert in search engine marketing, and in this talk he leads you though what SEO is, and gives you practical advice on how to better market your business through search engines.

Ya thats right! The guy who is too black for whitehats and to white for blackhats is giving a presentation on SEO!. I am as surprised as you ;) . I guarantee it will be different then any SEO presentation you have ever seen.

Keep your eyes peeled for a press release from eBay which involves AuctionAds this week. We can’t say anything more about that until eBay makes its announcement.

I do not know to be honest. Presenting at eBay is like a whole different ballgame then SES or other conferences I have spoken at. If the are I will be sure to post the links but also if they are I need to hold back a bit ;)

Anyone else getting served default ads with auctionads tonight around 6pm Central – Sunday night?

Hey Shoe – you need to a forum for auctionads for tech support and general discussion.

Shoe, it’s about time you admitted you know quite a bit about SEO. I’d love to hear or read what you’ve got to say. I’m willing to bet you take a very practical, bottom line approach to it and I think that would be a unique angle to hear.

Actually I might know a thing or 2 but its just from my experiences. I have never sold seo or services and do not agree with what most “professional” seos say

You’re in my backyard. I’ll see if I can “squeeze” in to see what’s going on.

Yep, same thing here, empty ads or default ads. I contacted AA, so I guess they are working on it.

I’m telling you I wrote my EBay – AuctionAds theory yesterday and timestamped it to post today!

Wow, I wish I could be there. I’m sure that the affiliate discussion will include some references to all the feeds that developers can use (as affiliates)?

I’m sort of surprised, too, that you’re talking about SEO.

I think that’s what would make it so interesting. While I’m sure there are some things I wouldn’t agree with you on, as you said, you’re basing it on your experiences which is something many SEOs don’t do. There’s so much recycled crap out there that gets passed around but rarely tested. Anyway, as others have said, I hope it’s recorded or blogged or something.

One key difference I’ve noticed, is that most SEOs, that sell services, focus primarily on lots of traffic and high rankings (they look impressive on reports). Successful affiliates focus on high EPC traffic (rankings that bring money to the table).

I think a similarity though is that both are successfully because of lots of tests and measurements, and Jeremy certainly seems to do that.

“if they are I need to hold back a bit ;)

Aw don’t say that. I think one of the reasons you are so popular is you aren’t afraid to reveal the goods.

I’ve always wondered how much you learn at these events, or if they are just for product promotion.

Oh no Shoe – please don’t show those ebay sellers how to get more traffic – they already get too much.

I’ve wondered the same. I suppose there’s only one way to find out :) . If any conferences happen near the Minneapolis area I’m game.

As long as we get a good podcast out of this I guess it’s ok to leave us with guest writers for a week.
