Google And Pepperjam Form Search Engine Marketing Partnership

We have not heard much news since the announcement of Googles Acquisition of Doubleclick. Today Doubleclick put out a press release talking about the partnership (from the Doubleclick/Google side) with Pepperjam. Kris Jones has blogged it on the Pepperjam blog Kris says, among other things - “a significant milestone in the history of Pepperjam’s technology offering and we are honored to be associated with Doubleclick and excited to pass the value of the partnership to our growing client base”.

Looks like the worlds largest full service Search Engine Marketing company just set the bar a bit higher for all the others who hope to compete with them. Pepperjams continues to rack up some of the biggest clients on the web and now with the Google/Doubleclick partnership they offer that much more value to their customers.

Those who know Kris might associate him with being one of the biggest proponents of Search Engine Arbitrage. He leads most of the panels at Search Engine Strategies and makes some very good arguments for Search Engine Arbitrage. Now before people start spinning this into a “Google is in bed with search engine arbitragers” you should know as kris pointed out on his blog they have been working on this partnership with Doubleclick before the acquisition by Google.

    This is unreal, Pepperjam is really distancing itself from the rest of the pack of SEM companies out there. If anyone thought that this line of business wasn’t a big deal (esp those ivory tower types on madison), just take a look at the movement going on lately. Good for them.

    Maybe I’m missing something but this really doesn’t sound like that big of a deal. It’s not a partnership in the traditional sense (i.e. both companies are truly relying on each other to help their businesses grow). It just sounds like Pepperjam has selected the DART platform to serve their ads. That’s good for Pepperjam clients but I hardly think that selecting a vendor raises the bar. And, it’s a bit misleading to say that they’re working with Google. Yes, Google bought DoubleClick but they’re still operating as a separate division.

    Maybe I’m missing something but this “partnership” doesn’t seem like anything more than a hyped-up vendor selection. I’m sure that Pepperjam clients will benefit but it seems a bit reaching to say that this is a partnership. The term is usually reserved for when two companies truly need each other to help each other grow their businesses. This is not the case. DoubleClick certainly welcomes Pepperjam as one of their clients but doesn’t need them to grow. And, it’s bit misleading to say that the “partnership” is with Google. Yes, Google purchased DoubleClick but they’re still doing business as DoubleClick and are likely still an independent business unit. It would be like saying that because of their purchase, you no longer use Feedburner for your feeds, you use Google.

    Hmmm. It looks like PepperJam is buying a product from DoubleClick.

    I just bought a couple of oranges from Safeway and I am really excited about that “Partnership”. Congratulations to me. Me and Safeway. True love always. Our partnership will never die.

    Jake - the press release was placed on the Business Wire by DoubleClick, not pepperjam. I guess a small company like DoubleClick gets excited about selling oranges?

    Just checked out your website - all I can say is that I can’t stop laughing.

    Get real - Doubleclick doesn’t just put out press releases. My guess is that your business wouldn’t qualify for any kind of hype by Doubleclick.

    Sorry, it is not a “partnership”. Certainly not with Google. This is just someone blowing smoke up their butt and I am surprised that Jeremy is playing into it.

    Not clueless, and not Jealous. I destroy PepperJam when it comes to revenue per employee ;-).

    Really, Do you see the word “partner” anywhere in DoubleClick’s press release? Huh uh. Quit drinking the PepperJam kool aid, dude.

    I must be missing something here, too, because it appears to me, too, that it’s “hyped-up” vendor selection.

    Google will give them more money to pursue the technology that they need to be successful. But, with the additional technology will come bigger expenses for clients–which will mean that Pepperjam will end up dealing with bigger and biggger clients: goodbye smaller clients.

    The Google name will bring in some additional clients, but ultimately it’s Pepperjam who will have to live up to the hype. Good luck ;)

    You guys are not missing anything. This is definitely hyped-up, but after all PepperJam is a marketing company and what’s marketing if not conception? This press-release has a simple purpose - generate more clients for PepperJam. You take something as simple as selecting a vendor, spin it and make a big deal out of it so the average user goes wow.

    Definitely an awesome accomplishment by Pepperjam.

    This has got to be the first major news from Doubleclick since the Google acquisition?

    Based on my reading of DCLK’s press release this should allow Pepperjam to open their business significantly.

    I thought they were pretty exclusive, but this partnership may open them up to smaller businesses since they will be able to offer the automated portion of DCLK’s software to the smaller players.

    In general, this seems to me a huge deal. Why would DCLK promote pepperjam when they could have added some sauce to just about anyone?

    Something must be brewing on the DCLK / Pepperjam / Google front.

    It’s not a partnership. I imagine a small company calling a big company and saying, “Do you want to acquire us?”. Big Company: No.

    Little company: Do you want to partner with us?

    Big Company: Why don’t you just buy our stuff?

    Little company: If we buy your stuff can we announce a partnership through a press release?

    Big Company: Ummm, how about you let us handle that press release?

    Little company: Aw shucks. Can I blog about it?

    Big company: OK.

    FYI the release was sent by Doubleclick not Pepperjam, so even though it will undoubtedly help Pepperjam the release was not actually sent by them.
