Its time for the Monday questions!

Hi Shoe,
Why do you always mess up there their and then than. Ever think of hiring a copywriter?
Ohh well It gives the grammar people something to do. Also its amazing how many times the people who correct my grammar come back to check the post to see if 1) I have corrected it yet and 2) to see if everyone has praised them for pointing out my flaws. Whats really awesome is when they make posts on there (haha) websites and drive people here pointing out all my grammatical errors and they become subscribers. We do hire copywriters for things that we think should have great English. My personal blog is not one of them.

Jeremy with your recent legal battles with the ebook dork rich jerk you mentioned you have had threats and experience with legal issues just wondering if you would be willing to expand anymore on that.
HAHAH LEGAL BATTLES. This is kind of my point… srsly.. legal battle? When someone makes empty threats its a legal battle?
Ok well you asked so lets have a look at the scoreboard…
In 2006:
I was threatened by email almost 350 times for legal issues.
I recieved only 20 cease and desist letters
I did make it to a legal proceeding 2x but unfortunately it was to testify as a expert witness (boring)
Here are some of the more funnier ones for 2006:
Revenue Magazine - Stated on there website they sent me legal papers… weird I never got them.
Plentyoffish owner Markus Frind said he was going to sue me after I made statements that he faked it until he made it. After a few months we actually became friends and started talking about scalability issues with managing huge websites. Hes even came on my radio show and we talked about making money online. I really do like Markus and I feel he is a marketing genious. There is nothing wrong with faking it until you make it (Markus you know i love u)
If you want to read something that has made me see a courtroom here is a good start:
Nextel Communications, Inc. Vs. Nextpimp INC - This one did not last long. Basically Nextel was saying they had rights to all Next* based domains and sites…….. ya… The firm that represents us got it dismissed.
You never hear me talk about people I have taken legal action against and you wont.. unless they post it. I don’t make bullshit threats or even send cease and desist. If someone steals my content or makes false statements that might impact one of my companies we go for the throat with no warning. I admit someone has to do something pretty bad for us to act but when it happens we have had a 100% winning record. There are probably some people right now wondering if its worth it to make up stuff about me or one of my companies for linkbait - only one way to find out =P

Shoe-
You recently said that bloggers should not trust you. I am curious if you then should think we should not run AuctionAds since you recommended it. Also you challenged Rand to a debate. What happen with that?
I’m so glad you asked! My whole point is that when it comes to making money online read whatever you want but use your head as to what is right for you. I will be the first one to tell you that AuctionAds is not the perfect answer for every site. In fact I will tell you that its not even the best source of revenue for this blog. However it does make a nice additional income even with just having the 125×125 ad in the sidebar.
So yea you should not trust me… or Rand… or Andy Beal… or John Chow… Or Darren Rowse… OR ANYONE like we are Jesus Christ who you should do whatever they say and not use your own head. you should try EVERYTHING and let the money show you what works the best.
As far as the debate Rand had to do SMX this week in Seattle so we were unable to do it live HOWEVER we were able to get some time in the WMR studio and pre-record the show. I think it was pretty good and it will be posted Tuesday.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Glad to see I am not the only one getting daily emails about grammar. I’ve had people ask me questions, I answer them and then they want to correct all the grammar errors.
as you stated most people threaten to sue but never go through with it. Usually this is because they really have no grounds they are just hoping to make a threat and you turn things over to them.
“…AuctionAds is not the perfect answer for every site”
True, but I’m starting to see that playing with the keywords key to maximizing conversions. Any plans to add keyword tracking to the AuctionAds reporting tools? It’d be pretty slick to have a report that shows which keyword converted to a sale. The only way I know to do this now is to use only one keyword at a time. It’d be cool to be able to add a bunch of keywords seperated by semi-colons, and be able to load a ‘conversions by keyword’ report so see quickly which ones convert the best.
I think basically you’re saying take everything with a grain of salt. Depending upon your site lead sales don’t work well. I attempted it for awhile with azoogle, I signed up under you shoe, however it didn’t work well for me. most people dont want to follow through even when i picked the free and cheap ones. so it is harder. I think everyone fakes it until they make it.
Shoe I specifically posted that cheque for earnings from months before there was anything ever written about plentyoffish.
THIS JUST IN… Jeremy says he’s jesus Christ. Now sports.
haha I am sure someone will spin it like that.
Its on the list
The threat of action is often enough to cause people to buckle so when you push back, they may back off. They know their ROI on these types of things, they know sending a thread will work X% of the time so they just shoot a bunch out and then pick which battles they want to fight. Someone with a legal team isn’t someone they usually want to go after unless there is a big dollar amount for winning.
You just told me not to use my head and to trust everything you say, i’m gonna sue you now.
All bow down to the mighty Shoe, lol.
I hope you didnt get mad ad me for my “damn you shoemoney” post.
your what? =P If I let every shoemoney sucks post piss me off I would never get nothing done
I’m definitely looking forward to hearing the debate–and would love to see it go on at the next conference when both of you are in attendance.
I have to admit that I’m not in agreement with you when it comes to grammar. When it comes to posting things online, I prefer to keep up a good “profile”. You never know when one bad post, one bad grammar mistake, or something else that someone sees online will have an impact on you.
Not everyone can be an English major y’know. My spelling and grammar have something to be desired too but if we spent all that extra time concentrating on grammar, would the blog entries come as fast and furious as they do? I say lighten up to the grammar Nazis. Your taking the fun out of blogging. Leave our boy Jeremy alone and just enjoy his posts for what they are.
Well in that case I guess it’s safe to post mine! (juuust kidding)
You forgot that he’s also saying Rand is the devil
Seriously though, it’s fun to see (er hear) two high profile people have an amicable debate.
I would normally agree with you but I don’t think Shoe’s really hurtin…
I think rich jerk should concentrate on his own bankruptcy/legal issues and not cause more problems for himself. I don’t get why he would want to fight on multiple fronts?
For a self proclaimed thick skinned rich jerk, he sure gets butt hurt easy.
I hate people who go around telling everyone about their grammer mistakes. WHO CARES? Who cares if I spell something wrong or use the wrong version of a word. This is a personal blog so why does it matter if something is not perfect?
Some people have way too much time on their hands if they send you an email every time you mistake there and their.
Grammar is as grammar does…
Some people allow themselves to be defined by the perceptions of others.
I don’t accept projected perceptions.

My grammer is pretty horrid, however I think people can still read it and know what I’m talking about, I generally just ignore grammar related emails, I used to write on a blog where we hired a copy editor to go through all my posts however at the end of the day I would never do it myself unless it’s something important..
Ya that is something I will definitely listen to, shame there’s no video feed heh..
It’s probably good practice to have your grammer spot on, but I don’t think it’s a requirement for success or failure on a blog, provided of course the poor writing isn’t excessive anyways..
It seems like everyone either has a lawyer or has a cousin who is..
It was all in Good fun, I just got mad at you for telling me about the desktop defender game. You ruined my life!
That would be a useful feature to have..
I also get emails from the grammar police…like you and the rest who have commented. I usually get the “I’ve proofread your website and have found all these mistakes…would you like to pay me to fix them for you?” LOL! Yeah, okay. If you want a job working with me you just went about it the wrong way.
I think Shoemoney’s mispells are on purpose just because it irritates readers and makes them come back on a daily basis to see if he will ever correct it. I think its funny. Also it’s a personal blog, who really cares about spelling.
RE: Grammar corrections submitted by readers.
Every now and then someone will bring a typo or spelling error to my attention, but this is pretty rare. I’ve always felt that it was critical to make sure articles, whether on my main site or my blog, were well written and edited. As part of this, I have my wife copy edit every article and blog entry I post to my site. If an article or post is technical in nature, I also make sure someone else does a technical edit for me.
In newspaper terms I look at my blog as the editorial pages of my site and like a newspaper I want every article or commentary to be well written as bad grammar reflects poorly on my site. The way I see it is that I consider myself to be a professional web publisher and as such should maintain a certain level of professionalism with my site.
I hate grammar cops. You can hand a grammarian million dollar content, and they’ll totally overlook it to correct a misplaced punctuation mark or mispelling.
Your spelling and grammar suck almost as bad as mine. If it wasn’t for this and the fact I’ve actually picked up a few things from you, I wouldn’t red this blug et all!
Don
Well if you are getting lots of emails about grammar you should check http://www.dailywritingtips.com.
Shameless plug, I know, but its 100% related to the topic of the post hehe.
Well, I usually have pretty good grammar in my online writings, but even I have people email me from time to time about typos. I have to admit - some of your misspellings have irked even me from time to time, but you are right ‘it’s a personal blog’. Once I start using your tips and info I get from your posts - I tend to forget about the misspellings anyway!
Personally, I think if people are spending time trying to correct the grammar of webmasters and bloggers instead of focusing on the message they are trying to give, they should really consider another hobby.
Obviously if my grammar and then/than usage bothers someone, then my blogging is most likely not for them.
I’ve got more important things to worry about - over is it a or e?
