I know the rules of the game. The scores you got are impossible, not because they are “so hard that I think it’s impossible”, but because they actually are impossible by the scoring rules of the game. There are various ways to hack the code to allow you “impossible” scores – you aren’t the first “creative” person to achieve those scores.

The trick is to make the creeps go back and forth through the same path over and over again. Usually I do it by blocking one end of the path, waiting until all of the creeps get to the other end and then deleting the block and creating a new one. The ends are both near the exits. In the link you gave, one of the blocks blocking the path for the creeps is still there, so it’s confusing to look at it. The trick to getting the high scores seems to be to take out the 2 boss flying creeps – the ones that piss me off the most often – from there it’s easy to keep them moving back and forth… High score folks start selling off everything toward the end (and building some new towers) to keep their mazes a secret and keep everyone else from learning the optimal tower configurations. That being said, I’ve killed every single creep and had 20 lives on hard and never gotten a score over 8700… I’m not sure how folks are getting the additional 2000 points and getting these 10K+ scores – either they have a cheat or they’ve figured out a maze that allows them to release large numbers of creeps at once from the beginning…
June 28, 2007 at 12:06 am
Finally – it only took me a month and a new version of DesktopTD (1.5) to get the high score – and no, I did not cheat… heck I don’t even know how – 8412!!! Check it out at http://www.handdrawngames.com/DesktopTD/GroupScoreboard.asp?ver=4

You make me laugh

After reading through the entire comment thread, it’s now kind of obvious that Tyler is like 13 years old. So I back off the harsh language (seriously).
Tyler – I see your 9000 score has disappeared… Trying to make it realistic?
Scoring works like this – all the creeps in the 50-level game add up to 4992 points. The max time bonus you can get (which you only get if you have at least one life left) is 2882. The lives-left bonus is equal to 25 * (remaining lives), so that maxes at 500. Thus, the highest score you can get is 8374, which is easily achieved on the fun “10K Gold” level.
The highest score you can achieve with 0 lives left is 4992, by killing all the creeps except some of the junior spawns (which aren’t worth any killing points) at the end.
And BTW – if you now modify your cheating scores to make them plausible, since you’ve already shown that you are a cheater, I would hope nobody gives you credit for them.
Anyway, if there is actually a prize, someone can send me an email with “TD Defense” in the subject line. Otherwise, no sweat.
May 31, 2007 at 9:29 am
Are you a liar as well as a cheater?
I know the rules of the game. Say what you want, all I know is what I did worked. You should not knock it until you are on the last level and try it.
May 30, 2007 at 2:53 pm
Tsk Tsk ..
May 30, 2007 at 2:53 pm
Just like THIS /:)
May 30, 2007 at 2:49 pm
when do we start ?
May 30, 2007 at 2:11 pm
Kudos Ice, I claim (the unrewarded) second place.
@TylerC you can’t score in the 7000’s with zero lives because you lose your bonus points. How could you not know that?
May 30, 2007 at 9:11 am
How did I cheat?
Because I found a strategy that obviously works better than yours?
May 29, 2007 at 9:16 pm
Do I need a real email or something?
May 29, 2007 at 9:15 pm
How do I get my comment to post?
May 29, 2007 at 9:13 pm
Rather obviously, TylerC cheated.
I think I had the top legit score. How do I claim my prize?
May 29, 2007 at 11:28 am
Matter of fact Monty… Do you have an email I could contact you at/ a page. I have a good proposition for you.
May 29, 2007 at 11:27 am
We should get in touch
May 29, 2007 at 11:26 am
I’m sending you a bill for all my lost hours of productivity Shoe…TylerC, if you’re one-tenth as good at online marketing as you are at DTD, I wanna hire you
May 29, 2007 at 10:07 am
Yes you can…. You can press the send next level button.
May 29, 2007 at 9:26 am
I detect a little hacking going on there. Note: You can’t get extra time points if you finish with zero lives. TylerC did exactly that.
May 29, 2007 at 9:04 am
For normal…. The Competition is for Hard
May 29, 2007 at 4:12 am
#1
May 28, 2007 at 7:57 pm
I did not use this method and I made it to the top…. I found its a lot better to focus stronger units in the center of the grid.
May 28, 2007 at 5:28 pm
BTW, Dont try to copy my mazes! I sell all my stuff at end so you cant see most of it, and I will hate u if you beat me lol.

May 26, 2007 at 12:14 am
I try to avoid games. Especially, video games. They are too addictive. I wouldn’t get anything else done.
May 25, 2007 at 8:57 pm
Okay, let’s give it a shot.
May 25, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Congratulations Kevin

May 25, 2007 at 1:07 pm
OK in one post Shoe says be productive to make money. Then he sets this challenge.
I personally think he is trying to keep up all from competing with him by making us play a bot setup by dilsmack
May 25, 2007 at 12:56 pm
That swoosh you hear is the sound of thousands of productive hours being sucked out the window.
May 25, 2007 at 12:51 pm
Interesting. Shoemoney issues challenge, and the instructions page goes down. Hmmmm. If I was a Rich Jerk I might be getting a lawsuit ready…
Anyway, how the hell do we join your group?
May 25, 2007 at 12:45 pm
GUYS — THIS IS HILARIOUS HAHA.
I fucking hate this game I definately ate up 30 hours one week playing it on MEDIUM and could not break fricken 7200 or so…
… but im 100% positive there is a secret “CHEAT” where you basically lay out paths… let half the little buggers go through your maze — then BLOCK the exit (but have a 2nd exit that makes them go all way back around your maze) and anyway…
it’s TRICKY TRICKY if you study any of the top 10 ppl they are all pulling off this bullshit haha but i havn’t ifgured out how they do it yet =(
May 25, 2007 at 12:41 pm
Great, now you’re going to start feeding my game addiction.

May 25, 2007 at 11:49 am
Some instructions on how to play and what keys to use would be helpful since their instructions link isn’t working.
May 25, 2007 at 11:15 am
The challenge has been set.
Going to practice.
May 25, 2007 at 11:10 am
I used to play this game… got up to 84 a couple times…
May 25, 2007 at 10:59 am
Haha Hell yes! I knew the time I spent on DTD would be well worth it someday. Looks like it will be close though as my personal best is about 100 below yours.
