New York Post

The New York Post is the first major publication to talk about the June 1st Adsense ordeal. The article is titled GOOGLE ANNOUNCES PURGE OF AD-HEAVY WEB SITES

Chris Winfield of 10e20.com is quoted in the article and also yours truely!

“If advertisers get a bad return on their investment, they will stop spending money,” said Jeremy Schoemaker, an AdSense expert who runs the popular ShoeMoney.com blog.

Yay name spelled right! (I almost put write just to see the reaction lol)

Keep on getting the media attention and you’ll be on the cover of Time soon enough… oh, wait… do they even print stuff any more? :)

Seriously, cool mention.

Can I ask something shoe. Does something like that bring in ALOT of new visitors? Or is it not even noticeable to you anymore?

Mubin-

For sure in fact its probably the best way to reach people. Usually when mentioned in something like this you will see a increase in rss or email subscriptions for a week or so.

I just wish it was for something I made more money off of lol.. (this blog is not really profitable for the time it takes)

I would think it might be negligible since it wasn’t an actual link, the average reader wouldn’t copy and paste to get here. Shoe confirmed that by saying an increase for a week or so. Almost like the social bookmark effect, where traffic will spike for 24-48 hours and not result in very many repeat visitors.

I find it funny the quote from google blasts MFA sites and sites with ads, when they stick recommendations in your account every month if you only have 1 or 2 ads per page that more ads will increase revenue. They’re basically trying to slay the monster they created.

I was reading the paper today and when I saw your name, I said out loud “OMG, I read his blog!” — it made for an awkward moment on the streetcar, but I still felt proud. Nice job!

Not profitable? With all the traffic you get? Wow, I guess you aren’t really selling anything.

11 Link Snitch May 23, 2007 at 1:57 pm

That’s for sure, not many net guys can claim to be quoted in the NYT.

They did at least put your whole url in there and didn’t leave it as just your name.

This is written under the image, “Google is sending cease and desist orders to companies that buy ads tied to Web searches.” What the heck are they talking about?

Wow, I’m surprised the general public cares enough for this to be news.

16 fivecentnickel.com May 23, 2007 at 2:37 pm

Speaking of which, how many visitors do you get per day here, Shoe?

21 jim May 23, 2007 at 5:19 pm

yeah, with just your name there is 0% chance someone will google you to see if you have a blog.

I was lucky enough to have one of my sites mentioned in an ABCNews.com article in December and saw the traffic on that site quadruple for about 2 weeks. Too bad it was only text and not a link. Anyway, I gotta say that a mention in the New York Times has got to be huge.

Someone has been chit-chatting with Patel. :)

You should get into feedburer’s FAN network to have ads in your feeds and on your site. Check your “monetize” tab in your feedburner account.

I guess when compared with your other numbers the blog is more a labor of love than a cashflow machine. (Even though it generates very decent revenue.)

I always looked up at those guys able to make money out of thin air, start a website and fast turning it into a profitable one,by owning the network, ppc, black-hat techniques, etc. But I always told to myself that on long term it does not pay, just stick to the right things, otherwise one movement like this one makes you loose big time.

Correct websites does not have to worry I think.

“”Google is sending cease and desist orders to companies that buy ads tied to Web searches – but then yank users to sites with no relevant content.”"

It’s about time Google did something of the MFA sites. They REALLY bring down our revenue
