Questions for Amy -
1. How do you differentiate in an industry that’s fully commodotized?
2. Do you manage your affiliates in-house or do you use an agency? Why did you decide to do it this way?
3. It seems LunarPages have been doing a lot of buzz marketing lately. Can you elaborate and has it been effective for you?

Stuart,

Shoot me an email amy.armitage@lunarpages.com and I’ll get this handled ASAP. I shouldn’t be difficult at all.

Mike,

1. How do you differentiate in an industry that’s fully commoditized?

You have to look for the honesty and personal attention behind the fads and gimmicks. At Lunarpages, we pretty much shy away from gimmicks, because we know that’s not how you keep customers. Once you’re part of our customer base, you’re family, so we try to keep everything as personal as possible. We’ll chat with you via email or the phones, we make our Control Panel easy to use, and then we throw as many incredible tools at you as possible. But it is hard trying to figure out who’s bluffing and who has the resources to pull off the offers. Check out forum reviews, and if your host doesn’t have a forum, that’s already a problem.

2. Do you manage your affiliates in-house or do you use an agency? Why did you decide to do it this way?

We actually use both, but we prefer working in-house because we can offer that personal touch that no other affiliate agency in the world is going to offer. We don’t have thousands of people working in a corporate setting trying to manage these affiliates – we have several select people and we’re all friends and so we treat affiliates with the same respect. Emails and phones are answered promptly and we’ll take care of you once you’re in the fold. It’s not like you’re out there twiddling your thumbs – when you make an effort, we reward that.

3. It seems Lunarpages have been doing a lot of buzz marketing lately. Can you elaborate and has it been effective for you?

Oh definitely buzz marketing is a key tactic in the web hosting industry in general, but we don’t like to do that gimmicky once-an-hour kind of buzz. Everything we send out is sent because we’re actually upgrading plans or offering freebies that we want the world to know about. We hope it will convince people to purchase with us, certainly, but it’s also a great way to inform the world.

Amy,

Why are you answering all the questions here? There won’t be anything to tune in for if they’re all answered. ;)

Amy,

Kudos on the rapid detailed responses. Still can’t figure out how you do all you do for the price that you charge, but seems like it’s working.

Keep up the good work

Amy is the hardest working girl in the hosting business. And she get’s it all done with a smile and a cheeky comment or two for good measure – I for one am looking forward to hearing shoe$$ and amy mix it up a bit….

When you are a big big company its a lot easier to leverage the costs and focus on getting huge numbers of people and making money off the margin.

Glad to hear you’ll be doing regular shows again!

It was pretty funny when you accidentally said the name of the company wrong and then you could hear Amy scream!
