Posted April 21st, 2007 by Jeremy Schoemaker

I got pinged by Andy Beal asking “what magazines I read” ?

I read cover to cover:

Playboy
Wired
Domainer <-- this one is new but it kicks a$$
Php Architect <-- my favorite
Linux Journal
Linux Magazine

And of course 2600
!!!

For this meme I am going to ping:

Dillsmack
Dax
Lee Dodd
Dave Adams
Kris Jones
Bootmoney

Honestly I don’t know why people read magazines either most of the content is out of date and their rather expensive and just filled with ads.. It’s like getting news from a random scraper site.

I don’t really read much magazines, but I once in a while I’ll pick one up look through it cover to cover. Ones that I read: Playboy, Mens Health, and any Car magazine interests me.

I was an early adopter of Revenue. I thought they showed a lot of promise. The first bad sign was the “sex” issue. They had a bunch of editor/manager changes…didn’t seem too stable, and I thought they were gone. But, when they came back on a regular basis (at least, in front of my eyes), the articles were largely irrelevant to my interests (they were doing nothing on Adsense back when it started, for instance), and they felt like a shill for a bunch of affiliate companies. The head of Linkshare was quoted in every single article in every single issue. Just seemed like an inbred thing…everyone scratching everyone else’s back, with little practical help offered. The only thing I really enjoyed was the Five That Arrived (or whatever they called it)…stories of webmasters of smaller sites that had begun making pretty good money and shared some of their behind-the-scenes ideas. Other than that, I grew less and less interested to the point that I started throwing them away without reading them.

I subscribed to Popular Science last year, but intentionally let it lapse. I had Entertainment Weekly (forgot to cancel it after it was offered as a premium in exchange for a discount at Best Buy), but killed that one off as soon as I could.

    Short answer: ZERO

I’m all digital now. Blogs and news with Pageflakes, and podcasts for info and entertainment (plus radio and TV, of course).

Nice, Playboy actually has some good content in there. No, not just the pictures, but the written columns are good as well. I have only subscribed to Popular Science. I think I’m a bit behind in this blogging thing. I don’t even know how those ping things work! That bootmoney blog is superb.

I like the fact that you keep it real shoemoney…most people wouldn’t admit to thousands that they read playboy…guess that is what makes your blog popular!
