Michael, it’s fine, I don’t think anyone thought you were going for an academy award. ;-)

The content of the video was great.

Great video, it helps a lot on some subjects!

That’s some good basic info that can be used for most any site not just WordPress blogs, mostly good for beginners IMO. We’re talking 95% here not the super secret 5%.

Honestly, it was OK…using videos is *kewl* but not always best way. For example..when MG mentions “robots.txt” it would have been nicer if I could have clicked on something to see the file he is using instead I had to type URL to see what he is doing doing with your robots.txt file. In someways using videos ruins the hyperlinking benefits of html.

So how is the video on youtube used to drive traffic? Is it just having your name said and user profile enough?

Basic but good info.
Now do one on spam/akismet ;)

Lighting was enought to be seen. Loved the “Googlebot” drawing,
and the “I am not Matt Cutts” t-shirt too.

:D

Very nice video. I’m sure this will help out many with their blogs/dupe problems.

Great video.

It must annoy Graywolf to say “wolf dash howl” every time. It’s better than “wolf hyphen howl” though.

wolfdashhowl.com is available, if anyone is interested. ;)

I’ve heard that info before, but the video format made it much more enjoyable

Shoemoney.com uses Wordpress right?

Good video with good content. So many people just install, post, then never think twice about how their software is working.

Wonderful video. Great explanation of duplicate content! There are so much vids out there about internet marketing stuff , but what HE DID is rly high quality :) .

duplicate content is an issue, actually I thinking about posting only excerpts on the home page as he mentioned

I liked his stop useless SEO blogs video more, but this one is good too. Like the ripped off Googlebot. ;)

I think the “Walk away from the key board” video is a good example of video link bait. I’m not sure if that’s what he was going for though. There are two replies to it and they make good points.

Instead of whiteboard he could have had a graphic with voice over.

If the content is killer the video editing is a lil less important IMHO ;)

26 ToddW March 24, 2007 at 11:49 am

Yeah, but this was pretty easy for him to draw up and hell that googlebot was badass!!!! :P

good tips. i always thought it was better to put into diff. categories together, guess not…

Reply

28 geegel March 25, 2007 at 5:35 am

I actually sort of disagree with some of the stuff explained there. I see nothing wrong with submitting a post to multiple categories, because Google does not find your post in category1 OR category2, but rather in category1 AND category2.

Also readers should always come first, not the stupid Googlebot, which I somehow think that it is heavily underestimated.

It is a way to raise the brand awareness and a very good one while we are at it.

I’m not sure that the short term effects are very impressive, but in the long run it can really make the difference.

Loved that video as well. The “Why am I not at SEOMOZ” cracked me up.

One thing, although I know from one aspect it is dead on, from another drives me freaking crazy…was the issue of “MORE”.

Although it’s great from a content/spider food perspective, if you are running a more pitchy commercial (product presentation) blog, taking or requiring the user navigate to a second page ‘could’ bring down the conversion rates.

Other than that, was good schtuff!

2 :thumbsup
