When I first implemented the Comment Karma I thought it would be cool if there was a ranking system to see what comments people liked best. Dillsmack banged out some code but also had a good idea to pull there site/avatar from MyBlogLog
. You can see the first beta on the sidebar.
Some interesting notes… after setting this up commenting on the site has increased almost 30% and votes on comments has increased over 200%. Also we noticed people who did not have a MyBlogLog account now have one cause it pulls there info from there. I just hope the top commenter’s servers are up to the WAVE OF TRAFFIC coming there way. Eventually I would like to have it be like top commenters this week or this month… That was my original thought anyway.
Regardless if you happen to see a error or something over there its cause we develop on the live box. (YA THATS HOW WE ROLL)
How hot is MyBlogLog? Looking at my statistics for this month about 10% of my referal traffic comes from mybloglog.com. That is more then Google. if you are not using it I HIGHLY suggest it. I talked to some Yahoo execs in Las Vegas last week about it and man they are SUPER excited about all the new integrations in store with it. I have not seen them this excited about a acquisition since flickr.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Yeah, MyBlogLog’s pretty cool when it comes to referring people. I’ve experienced a similar effect in referrals over the past week (around 11%).
My blog traffic has doubled since I started using Mybloglog. It’s hot.
How about a post specifically dealing with generating traffic from mybloglog
I am signed up on mybloglog. I do see a good bit of traffic coming to my site. Its a pretty good site to use to generate traffic.
Mybloglog is my new crack! I see a good amount of traffic from there and my comments have gone up 150%.
I don’t know if I’d go as far as calling it my new crack, but it is pretty addicting.
Hmmm, I can see I will have to play with it more…
OK, help me understand how you’re ranking these comments. How am I at 4.33 and on your list? I’m pretty sure I don’t comment enough to warrant being on the list…although happy to be there.
Its just an average of karma’ed comments. For example, Quadszilla has posted 13 comments. 12 were a score of 0, and one was scored 8. The 0 scores are ignored, thus an average of 8 on 1 comment = 8. Its not perfect, but its reasonable. I’m still tweaking it a little before release.
You have a few +1, +6, +5, +2 etc for an avg of 4.3.
Oh OK. I just need to know what script to write, so I can move up the ranking.
Well everything is parsed through the Google spam de-frazzulator. I doubt you will have success spamming it.
Ohh andy so you admit to blackhat technique… nice !
I will if it gives me Karma points.
When I first signed up for MyBlogLof, Shoemoney was listed in the “hot communities” section. Move over Jeremy, I’m in there now
Ok Shoe you are making me signup for yet another site! MyBlogLog here I go.. err come
I signed up early this month and I am getting good traffic from mybloglog. Kudos to you shoe for implementing the comments thing. It will drive people to add even more comments to your site. I often look over the comments and learn new things from them. It is a source of great information.
Looks great Shoe! Just signed up a MBL and will have to check it out. Do I need to add the widgets to really see the benefits of the site?

Like Andy, I was surprised to see my name up in the list of top commentators. However, I won’t be pursuing any blackhat techniques to stay there.
Shoemoney, thanks for adding this because I have seen a little increase in my traffic just from your site. And with a new site, I welcome any and all new traffic.
Yes Shoe, nice work — keep it up !!
I wrote a brief about about increasing traffic using mybloglog, I put it as the URL where my name is so I’m not dropping live links
Works a treat imo.
Gotta love the nested comments, top commenters and the comment rater thingy. Let the copycatting begin!
In IE7 there seems to be a problem displaying the top commenters. But overall it’s a thing and adds more value to your blog in my opinion.

I was using StumbleUpon today and came across three blogs in a row that had MyBlogLog installed. By the third site I was curious what it was, then I come here to Shoemoney and he has it. A very neat idea. Have to see how it does.
MyBlogLog is like crack. I am noticing a significant uptake in my traffic as a reults too. Shoe, I launched a new blog website and I was hoping maybe you would be interested in interviewing me about it, or featuring it on your site. I will give you a lifetime listing for free.

saying you can’t spam it… is more like an invitation than a deterrent!
hehe - sounsd like Karma Whoring to me!
Mybloglog.com is very addictive. It website looks very amateur but it really does drive traffic to your blog.
actually i just add mybloglog in my site a couple days ago, and still waiting till 1 week to see if it is sending me a lot trafic from there. I will post the result again soon here once i got the prove.
mine is still not affected by MyBlogLog. I don’t know what’s the technique on making MyblogLog and effective traffic driver to my site.
