While it might be easy to predict the future its harder to predict when your predictions will take place. Sure I can tell they will happen in 2007 but… cmon…

So Ive been getting emails from people saying that another one of my 2007 predictions has come true.

This one here:

1) Google Adsense will get rid of the non compete with the contextual engine thingie. Some publishers are already getting the go-ahead to use other contextual driven products on there page and I suspect in 2007 they will just make it official that you can use other contextual advertising products.

Ohhh but not so fast… it seems that my vision could have been cloudy… While they did drop the contextual part out of the non compete they do say that you can not run look a like products. So… while you may be able to run intelletext you wont be able to run YPN and Adsense on the same page.

Oh well close enough mark 2 off. (Man we are not even through January yet)

Hmmm… I could see this making it easier for folks to use Chitika with the contextual turned ON. That would be much easier for me from a maintenance perspective…

Man,you can sell your predictions as a service. For example- “How I’ll be raked on the next Google update” :)

Good question Ron, basically it was anything that used a contextual engine. Contextual engine meaning that they would determine how to target the ads to your page based on the context (content) of it.

I’m sure any prediction you make will be more accurate than Sylvia Browne. Even if it’s a little cloudy.

Shoe,

I love ya man but this is not a case of you being right. This is not even close to what you predicted in fact they have gone the other way, no longer allowing rotation of ads that look similar.

I wish you were right, really I do. I guess until some contextual source gets close to the revenue that Google can produce they are free to remain in a dictatorship role.

Nice work on figuring out the future. As a side job you can do late at night is start up your own fortune teller show. You can be like Ms. Cleo except, people will like you. Let’s see what other predictions you have that will come true.

I don’t think you are quite right on this one shoe. In fact alot of people are misquoting it. Everyone is saying you can’t use YPN or Adsense on the same page like if for example you are rotating the two, however, google said they just can’t look alike. Meaning if you use different color schemes, etc, etc then its cool. At least thats the response I got back from adsense.

Not bad, not bad. You should have the globe changed in that photoshop pic to a crystal ball. :)

Yes, Chitika users can turn on contextual mode for the eMiniMalls. Much simpler to setup, I agree.

Right, but because you have to use substantially different looks you can’t do real split testing (with same colors and layouts) except by switching over to one or the other across the entire site. Which is still doable, just more work.

OMG – I cant believe you just did that. Your entire audience winning lotto. That’s gotta be some kinda record..

Got the numbers for Australian Gold Lotto ?? (same thing different place).. :D

Since you’re foretelling the future, mebbe you can answer me this.. I recently got a job offer from Yahoo. Not a bad one all told, but it could pay better. Now then, should I hold out for the extra 30K, or go with the original offer.. (I’ll know on Tueday anyhoo) :D :D

I was wrong! My initial interpretation about the new policy was probably negative due to a 900 dollar back charge for what Google calls fraudulent clicks, (with no explanation of course) that I just got hit with.

And indeed I am very glad you are right about it. I am going to be doing a lot of expanding into other contextual realms this year. adSense is still putting the most money in my pocket but I am beginning to see that as more of a risk then benefit.

Anyway I shouldn’t have doubted you, good call guess it pays to have friends on the inside.

Jack
