Garbitrage – Affiliate issues panel

Posted on: December 6th, 2006 by Jeremy Schoemaker

Kris Jones coined a new phrase at the affiliate issues panel at SES. It was a pretty heated panel as promised ;)

Tim Daly (Google apologist) took most of the heat. I finally figured out why he hates arbitrage so much. During this session he revealed that his company spent $4,000 in PPC and only made $20 and he blames this on arbitrage. Umm maybe he should hold himself accountable. Unfortunately I have lost a few thousand in 1 day before playing this game but it was my own fault as I was not doing proper analytics. You can’t blame Google when you do something stupid.

Also Tim claims he is the sole reason (due to his diligent reporting) that Google has implemented the quality score changes. A pretty bold statement.

One of the highlights of the panel was when someone from the audience asked a question and as Tim was giving his answer another panelist, Frank Watson, started chanting WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG it was so fricking hilarious. I hope someone got audio of this panel because more people need to hear it.

I agree on “You can’t blame Google when you do something stupid” even if you don’t know.

When you enter a credit card or send money online it first your responsability to see how .. :)

How does a guy who spends $4000 to make $20 get on a panel? Was that $20 profit or revenue? Either way, jeesh!

Ya, this guy was on a panel?

Holy shi-at! Can I be on the panel? I spent 4k and made a profit…

    I’m sure it was Google’s fault…

Google does a lot of dirty stuff but people like this guy make it seem like it is some shadowy click-fraud group who is responsible for everything.

I’d love to see video/audio of this.

I see this topic will always be popular and solid fuel for link bait.
I was the guy yelling “WRONG”….
He gets very passionate about stuff and sometimes you have to interject…
What amazed me was when I asked the audience who was there hoping to learn how to arbitrage no one put up their hands.
Hey that is one of the reasons I attend the conferences… I am picking up tips every day I attend one of them!
Now if I only had a pad or was not inebriated maybe I would remember them!
