Net Income Episode 21 – Neil Patel and Cameron Olthuis

by on November 29, 2006 · 16 comments

Last nights show was probably one that I learned the most from. My guests were Neil Patel and Cameron Olthuis. Neil is probably the smartest guy I know when it comes to digg and with references like Guy Kawasaki what more needs to be said?

On the show we talked extensively about Digg and then got into there newest project crazyegg.com. I have tried many products in the past… Clicktracks and the others but I think there product crazyegg really nails it. I am guessing this is due to the fact these guys are advertisers/marketers themselves and know what people are looking for.

While doing the show I fired up crazy egg and then took screenshots of some of the data it produced to share with the chatroom. Here is what I pasted:

You can see them Here Here Here and Here

I also use crazyegg when testing out landing pages. I highly recommend it. Its free to test then has tiers based on traffic.

So listen to the podcast below or access it directly from webmasterradio here:

Also – Next week we David Naylor and I will be doing a live show from the Chicago SES!!

Thanks for putting the podcast on. This was one show I didn’t want to miss, but got caught up in a few things and had to.

Hey Shoe, Let me first say that Net Income is by far my favorite of the webmasterradio podcasts. But I will have to disagree, I thought this show was a little less informative than usual. I too think crazyegg’s visualization service is awesome. I guess it seemed obvios right away that it was a great service and I was sold as soon as I saw it and heard about it. But a lot of the show felt like an advertisement for crazyegg instead of a “how can we use this tool to gain more Net Income” kind of deal.

Just trying to offer a little constructive criticism…

Great show, but way too short, is extending it pass an hour a possibility?

Its out of my control. Barrys show ran about 10 minutes long then in the middle of my show everyone got dropped and they had to get us all back on…

I can hardly ever go long cause of family obligations

Its all good!

Most of what we were addressing was questions from the chat room. What you should do is be in the chat or call in if you have a direct questions. We let the listners choose the path the show goes

Hey Shoe, I was actually in the chat yesterday and you’re right you were answering our questions. Everyone was excited about the product…

Last couple shows (some live some on podcast) I don’t remember seeing the number posted or hearing people call in. Cause I’d love to call in and get a ShoeMoney shirt for my weekly ultimate frisbee game :)

Man Shoemoney you can’t just go around making odd spelling mistakes:
Next week we David Naylor and I will be doing a live show from the Chicago SES!!

Anyway it was a decent show, but I didn’t exactly learn much on how to get Diggs – just how the Diggers would react to certain stories/Digg Submissions…

Great show Shoe! The crazyegg thing was cool…but the Digg conversation was the most entertaining for me. Maybe you can get more guests to discuss their utilization of network sites for SEO.

Great show shoe, and the showing of your own site with there tools was unreal (I wonder how many others would have done so). This is why I hit your site on a daily and always check out your show.

As for crazyegg.com, man i wish they were a public company now as I would buy stock in them:).

Crazy Egg is great for testing out ad placement and looking at internal/external link clicking behaviour.

It also helps to be able to cross reference against whether advertisers are paying for each click.

Lmao, I’m listening to this Shoe and I was cracking up at your .htaccess thing taking your server down manipulation tactic.

As a general comment, I’d love it if transcripts were available for your shows – unfortunately I don’t have enough free time to listen to podcasts like I use to. :(

…But I’m a very fast reader and would happily download/print off any and all transcripts your show produces. (as you know, there are some relatively cheap services online that’ll transcribe mp3 files sent their way).

Just my 2 cents, ’cause I hate missing out on great stuff like your show. :)
