Cha-Ching:
Last night on the radio show I mentioned there was a promotion for 50$ for each new Yahoo Search Marketing account. I got quite a few emails about where to get that coupon … the link is here If you do not see the 50$ in savings apply coupon code USCJ17.
For Sale:
I noticed SiCK over at digitalpoint is selling a script called eBay Natural Search Affiliate Script for sale. He is asking 50$ per domain. Looks like a pretty good deal if your trying to build a organic eBay affilaite site.
Cool Stuff:
Text Link Ads has created a Blog Juice Calculator which will show you what kind of juice your blog has. Check out my Juice by clicking on the elite icon on the right hand side. You can have it display just your juice or you can go head to head with other bloggers to see where you stand. Wanna step up ??? Bring it!
H4×0r:
From the spamhuntress blog-
Evidently from the recent hacks on major providers people had a little treat in there .htaccess files:

What does this do? Well really nothing unless your a search engine bot. Then it tells you this site has permanently moved to http://badsite/go.php?link=1. Course you would have never know unless you search the internet as a bot useragent.
Some interesting comments on her blog … mostly related to how she is HELPING evil people by giving them this code. I think that most the evil people could have figured this out.
Spamhuntress has corrected me -
Actually, that .htaccess code does NOTHING for the search engine bots. They don’t come with a referrer. The code kicks in if you follow a link from the search engine results to an affected site (as in having that evil .htaccess code).
doh!

Yep, I just PM’d SiCK to see if he was selling it but no go. I think that he sold too many and then realized that all he was doing was creating competition for himself.

I think I would’ve used HTTP_USER_AGENT in the .htaccess trick, rather than HTTP_REFERER. Seems like you’d still get benefits with the search engines and stay a little lower under the radar.

Yup — that’s why I said I would have gone with HTTP_USER_AGENT instead. But I think this guy was looking for instant traffic, rather than search engine love.
Since he chose to target the referring sites, he should have thrown in stuff like Digg, Slashdot, etc… though their users would probably be quicker to give the victim a heads-up on the redirect than the average person using a search engine.
I guess it depends on what you’re doing with the traffic. If you’re just looking to pass out free spy-ware and fish for exploits, going for the quick & easy traffic was probably the way to go.
