Have You Seen The Future of Googles Search Engine

12 responses..

Several weeks ago some people stubled apon this site called SearchMash. After doing some research on the search engine they noticed it was a google owned ip address. Soon after Google confirmed it was there new testing area for there future search engine.

My good friend daveN has a little writeup about how he hates it.

I think the searchmash is pretty good but daveN makes some great points about why it sucks. If you like his post give it a digg on the button above.

That Google is involved is a little less secret than you make it out to be :)
I quote the Terms of Use: “SearchMash is a website operated by Google Inc.”

Interesting they put that on there now…. It was no where to be found and in fact they said they did not want users to be influenced by the google trademark… I guess they changed there tune

Then again, who reads the TOS ;) The copyright on the bottom says “Copyright 2006 SearchMash”.

Eh… I agree with him to an extent. I like the idea Google is trying, but it needs to go about a different angle. What if instead of images, they were thumbnails of videos? This could definitely be a good thing with the acquisition of YouTube and already having Google Video.

The green URL thing would have been GREAT a few years ago. Now that Firefox and IE7 is around pretty soon, this is pretty much useless.

Searching without having the cursor in the box… well… No comment.

The reordering thing… well, I don’t agree that it could be more abused than just Photoshopping it. Besides, it still has the numbers beside the result. And with addition of the ‘more results’ button, this could be handy for anyone who is researching. That way you could just move the results to the top of the page you wish to view (or that you viewed and like the best). If there was a way to save the results, this would be great.

I think SEOs secretly worry everytime Google comes out with some new offering that potentially makes life harder for them. People have to remember that a purely SEO based business model isn’t the most efficient long-term plan for the majority of people out there. Then again, it’s the top 5% that’re making all the money anyways…

    SearchMash - Google’s future search engine?…

Have you seen SearchMash? In the TOS it says “SearchMash is a website operated by Google Inc.”, it is said to have a Google’s IP and is maybe going to be the new Google after some time.
But oh well, for the features, I would mostly ag…

What I like about Searchmash, is the image preview in the right column of the search results. I think this is a really cool feature and hope that Google implements this into their search engine.
