My Google Toolbar updated today and I had the option to add the Misspellit.com button to my toolbar… ohh whats this? I can use this!! I am always mispelling words right?
Lets look at how it works… so now in my Google tool bar all I have to do is click this misspellit button and … ok now im searching for typhos and mispellings on… ehh… ebay?
well ok maybe that makes sense.. but lets try one and see what happens. Boom im cookied. This means that anyone who uses this site is cookied and any time they bid, make a purcahse or someone signs up within 30-45 days of using this service misspellit.com gets a phat cut of that.
Dont take my word for it do it for yourself and watch all the ebay cookies get set…

It’s a smart way of making money

As far as I know, it’s a perfectly legit way to make money via the eBay affiliate program. Also, I think “cookie stuffing” isn’t entirely accurate… unless you consider a “normal” affiliate link to be cookie stuffing too.

Damn ! That’ll put sites like mine out of business then. Unless I devise a toolbar that allows users to search for mis-spelled eBay items myself. Actually, it doesn’t look that hard so perhaps I’ll give it ago.

As far as i know cookie stuffing is against TOS of many merchants who have affiliates.

Any idea what happens if someone goes to ebay via an affiliate link,
and then finds their way to ebay via another affiliate link 10 days later?
Does the first affiliate get priority and the second get zip?
[Reply]
No, the most recent one gets it.
Cookie stuffing for the win.

Last time I checked, eBay suggests correct spellings for search.
Doesn’t listing software have spellcheck?

I wouldn’t say that this is keyword stuffing. After all, the toolbar does provide a service - finding misspelled auctions that won’t be found by as many other people. They could just not set the cookie, but that wouldn’t make them as much money. Had they just been opening the search in a hidden browser control, that would be cookie stuffing.
