Dillsmack Comes In For Episode 10 Of Net Income

Posted on: August 18th, 2006 by Jeremy Schoemaker

My programmer Dillsmack co-hosted this episode of Net Income. We talked about various things and took some calls.

ADD Sidenote: I am looking to hire someone to transcribe the shows so if you know anyone have them give me a email or use the ajax form to submit.

Items covered in the money minute:

  • SEO Blackhat launches exclusive forums for 100$/month – we talked about the positives and negatives of the exclusive webmaster forum
  • AdSense Last Login – Adsense now shows the last time you in.
  • MSN AdCenter – AdCenter recently changed a lot with their quality control. Some people got banned.
  • Top Blog Lists – A few people put out lists of top blogs – Barry had me on his but seomoz snubbed me =( Its cool thought I mean my blog is just now 1 year old so what do I expect. Its kind of weird you don’t care to much about lists until you get snubbed =p EDIT: Rand has now added shoemoney.com to his list.

Ok so getting into the show:

Our first caller was Kevin: he said he kept finding the same site, smtusa.com, for various anytown internet marketing. I was having issues with my pc so it took me a few minutes to pull it up. Turns out this site is ranking for everything and the domain is 9 years old so I put the rankings up to that pretty much. Also they are serving a 404 handler. here is a funny thing from this site: check out this link heh… as you can see Aaron Wall just got some nice links from this guy.

My best guess is that they are actually using Google sitemaps to get them to index the page with a domain this old and keywords in the url, title mixed with on page content is why they rank. Lets see if seobook ranks on this domain.

Next caller was TeeCeo who is a regular in the chat room. He had a question about how I hooked up with Dillsmack and how we came to an agreement as a partnership.

There was some good questions in the channel about what our are favorite tools: I talked a little bit about a tool I bought once called seo elite and how it banned me from google in about 20 seconds from my home ip. But the bottom line is we pretty much develop our own tools daily depending on the task.

Ken Savage then called in. He had a question about Adsense not showing relevant ads on his website based on his content.

After Ken’s call we talked a bit about putting images next to ads. As talked about before I made the image generation tool. In regards to Yahoo Publisher Network and Google Adsense you really need to ask them if images next to your ads are ok. It tends to be a matter of relevancy from what I have read but again please make sure you check with your advertisers before using these.

Next we had a caller call in to ask about PPC arbitrage and wanted to know my thoughts on past, present, and future of arbitrage. I went into a lot of detail on this, way more than I want to type.

After coming back from our break we talked about Adsense accounts a bit. I know 3 people who have had there accounts banned. Dillsmack is one of them. We talked about the recent talk Danny Sullivan had with Eric Schmidt (CEO of Google) where he admitted he clicks on Google ads because he wanted to “make sure they still work” or because he was interested.

We also talked about LookSmart and how Dillsmack was recently charged $3,000.00 while trying to redeem the FREE $150.00 worth of clicks. Fortunately it was easy to get refunded by calling them. A word of warning to anyone trying out the $150 free. Don’t set your monthly budget to more than $150.

In closing we talked a bit about SES… I really tried not to talk about it because its been talked so much about plus we did the live show last week from the SES floor.

Anyway thanks to Dillsmack (Dave) for coming on I think he did a pretty good job. See you all next week.

What I don’t understand is why people would click on them to “make sure they’re working”… if it appears, it’s working.

I never understood why Google can’t just exclude the clicks from the person who put up the Adsense. It seems like so many people would click at least once or twice just to make sure they’re working.

Cool image generation tool. Are you actually allowed to use those pics on your website?
