Greg Hartnett Comes On For Episode 7 Of Net Income

by Jeremy Schoemaker on July 26, 2006 · 20 comments

I got in Monday night about 1AM from Las Vegas and spent most of Tuesday catching up on email and other misc stuff. I shot a email over to my friends Brian and Greg at BOTW to see if they were interested. They responded and said Greg was available.

Greg came on and we did the latest news which basically just consisted of 2 things.

After then break Greg gave a little bit about his background then we talked about a interesting item that a young lady emailed me about a blog post titled Top 10 Dumbest Online Business Ideas That Made It Big Time

As I said on the radio I think the word Dumb should be replaced with Simple. Obviously there is nothing dumb involved….

We talked at length about conferences and really if you don’t listen to the podcast I want to say this:

Before I went to San Jose SES last year I never made more then 5 figures a month on adsense. I instantly quadrupled our companies gross income (as you can see in the pic to the right) just by applying a few things I learned at this the conference. It was my first conference I ever went to and I cant tell you how it changed my life.

I have been to every major SES and WebmasterWorld Pubcon USA based conference and each time I went I learned something that drastically made a difference in my companies profitability.

I get the question a lot “can I justify the cost of the conference”. My answer is always “Can you afford not to go”.

Thanks to Greg Hartnett for coming on the show.

Hi, could you make a post with some info on SES Chicago and San Jose and some real world examples of how it helped you? I am interested and would be interested to read your views…

hey Shoe,
i would also be interested to know what you picked up at SES that changed your earnings so dramatically??

Since I am based in Australia, it is unfortunately very difficult to attend any conferences, cos its a hell of a long way to US from here, and very expensive

I live in New Zealand and so also have the same problem. If you the information and tips that you speak of arent readily available in forums etc, how would you suggest we get it Shoemoney?

The information is out there. For me the big difference was talking to these industry leaders and having them explain how it directly applies to what I am doing

I just cant justify the $1400 ticket to get in and then the $550 plane ticket plus hotel room of about $600. Double that if a friend comes with me. It’s basically a $3000+ 3 or 4 days.
It would take me almost 3 months to recoup that price. Not this year anyways.
Maybe I’ll see you guys next year in NYC

OT Mista Shoe

could you post something bout setting up an adwords campaign? I know many ppl like to know bout that and it could be really interesting for all of us that didn`t worked with adwords before, because the adwords system is really complicated and it`s not easy to recieve LOTS of clicks on a regular basis for releatively small shoemoney and so on, you know =)

but anyways, nice podcast again!

Since yahoo is changing, do you think it would be a good idea to wait until the NY 2007 show?
I’m sure they could teach a bunch about Google, but I don’t want to spend money to learn stuff about Yahoo that will soon be obsolete.

I went to the Yahoo party in 03 or 04 and it was a bunch of fun.. I heard they don’t do the parties as big as they once did..

Hey Shoe… great show! I downloaded it the other day and listened to it on the way to work this morning. I didn’t realize how “new” you were in the industry. You’ve definitely made a name for yourself, super-fast! I’m just as new as you are and hope to be as successful :) . I’ll be at SES… hope to meet you there!

P.S. Mini-Matt’s name is Adam… not Aaron :P

You guys kept talking over each other, not sure if thats a side effect of talking via skype, but as a listener it was somewhat annoying. That said I like the show, keep it up.

So much of a conversation is visual. You really lose a lot of the visual cues in this type of setting. With the host and guest in different locales, it gets a little choppy at times.

This was a helpful show. I was thinking about attending SES in Tokyo but I thought it was too much. I will make sure the Japan show or the San Jose show next year. Thanks.
