Contextual Ads Image Tool

by Jeremy Schoemaker on June 29, 2006 · 25 comments

A while ago I wrote this tool that uses the Yahoo API to find images then make banners that increase your CTR that go along side your conextual ads. I was not sure 100% if this was ok with Adsense or Yahoo Publisher Network’s TOS’s so I never published it and only used it with shoemoneyads

On last tuesdays radio show Barry talked a bit about Yahoo Publisher Network now allowing these sorts of images and also made a post about it here. Evidently YPN is giving the green light as long as the images are RELAVENT

If you would like to use the tool its located here. Simply put in a keyword, choose your 4 images then whola your banner is made. Please save images locally as they are deleted off the server nightly.

Always be sure to check with Yahoo or Google if you think you are violating the TOS at anytime.

i am not sure taking images in Yahoo’s image DB to use on your own pages is considered “fair use”. Aren’t people risking DMCA complaints to their hosts as well as risking their accounts w/AdSense and/or YPN for violating the other people’s IP rights?

Any word on the Adsense status on this? I have seen many Adsense sites doing this with icons and other images.

It’s strange that you don’t even mention the possibility of copyright violation in using this tool.

Hello Shoemoney,

I understadn that disclaimer about the TOS. But no wehre in tehre even says a word about what you are talkign about! It does not say you are allowed to as long as it is site content related. I realy do hope this is in fact true as I woudl love to add them to my site. Can you offer a little clearer insight into if it is truley ALLOWD adn what your contacts at ypn have to say about it! I Just do not want to run into any trouble that is not neccesary!
Thanks so much
J

I think it would be even better if it created an image for the 250pix ads

Great stuff either way Shoe!

Isn’t this illegal? I don’t mean violating Adsense/YPN terms either, I mean the theft of other people’s copyrighted images.

If you’re worried about copyright issues, here’s a revolutionary idea….create a collage of your own images and then modify the tag in Shoe’s code to include them.

Totally awesome tool. This will save me a bit of leg work.

Can we get a “more images” button to scroll through the other images associated with the search terms?

I have to admit breaking TOS is a fear for me – I wouldn’t be comfortable with this… the tool itself looks very powerful
