EDIT - This is now syndicated on Google Video for those having issues with quicktime - althogh its bad quality =(
I was recently served a DMCA letter by a company claiming I was hosting a file they were claiming copyright to. I complied and removed the file but I also did a lot of research on what the DMCA is and how it works. Also I called my friend ChrisR and got the legal lowdown.
Chris also was cool with letting me video the phone interview and blogcasting it. It should be mentioned that Chris is not a lawyer and neither am I.
Some of the urls mentioned in the blogcast for easy click-ability are:
DMCA Archive and Cases
YouTube
Google Video
Scientology Vs. Google DMCA Request
Official DMCA Agent Directory
Webmasterworld DMCA Contact
Is your content being scraped or stolen? File a DMCA!!!!!!!!! Just do a a whois on the ip then check the Official DMCA Agent Directory to see if the host is listed then file the DMCA!
The blogcast is about 50 megs (its best if you just subscribe through itunes).

Awesome Information SHOE!!!
Great interview with Chris. VERY knowledgeable guy.
BTW I LOVED THE SUPERMAN THING
Jeremy,
Thanks for the information!
In the past I’ve just sent nasty gram threats (postal & email) to webmasters and hosting companies. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Sounds like I’ve got a new tool to use against the scraper scum.

[...] Shoe is at it again and this time he does a great interview with ChrisR (Webmasterworld mod) about the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) and how it can affect publishers. A ton of great information and I think J-money hit it out of the park on his first real podcast. Check it out. tags: digital+millenium+copyright+act, google+video, you+tube, dmca [...]
Decided to add a few ads to the site? They don’t bother me…
I’ll subscribe to the podcast too.
“This internet stuff is so confusing!!!”. I was not expecting that introduction. Very good work, and great interview. So much better listening to this then having to read it…..
Holy crap! Best. Intro. Ever.
hah your facial expressions still crack me up
same old jeremy! nice job bro
I love the blogcast! SO much better than reading! Maybe more bloggers will follow your example. Quality information, keep it up.
Valuable information gathered in one place. It really is a pleasure to listen to that kind of podcasts.
Thumbs up.
You asked about Youtube, NBC has requested to have some SNL videos removed and they complied
What is the name of the cast in iTunes? I’m searching for “shoemoney” and it’s returning nothing.
click on the link at the top “subscribe with itunes”
You should be afraid of the DMCA indeed, I’ve taken a look at your sites and all of them are spammy, contentless sites. All content on them is stolen. No respect man!

Thats it!
Great blogcast with a wealth of exceptional information. Well done, as usual ShoeMoney. ChrisR was really on point and nothing short of a phenomenal guest.
Thank you both, it really was tremendous!

[...] I was talking to the affiliate team over at Rocket Profit about some of the new offers they are running that looked pretty attractive to us. One thing I really like about a company like rocket profit is how open they are with lines of communication to affiliates. Sometimes the difference between failure and success can be some tips from your affiliate manager. Anyway they were asking me why I no longer made videos like my one on directories and also the one I did on the DMCA stuff with ChrisR. [...]
