Henry Warren > Quick Connect

By Jeremy Schoemaker 18 comments

I hired a local internet company, Quick Connect on December 15th to do my corporate website. I wrote them a check and paid full upfront 3,000.00 for the site to be done. I finally got a meeting with them in mid January and they demoed to me what they had done so far… it was totally horrible. They have actually removed it from the web or I would show it to you. They asked me what word came to mind when I look at it and I said “Stupid”. I told them it was stupid that they could have sent this to me in a email THREE WEEKS AGO so I could have told them how shitty it was then.

There response was that they did not have the talent to do what I wanted and they were trying to hire more people…… SWEEET GLAD I PAID YOU GUYS UP FRONT. I told them to cease all work on my site and to refund my money. The owner has responded with “We do no offer refunds but will work with you until you are happy”. I guess the problem here is they took my money and plan to just wait me out. I sent the case to my lawyers and should probably stop here discussing it. Oh by the way check out quick connects law firm.

I wonder who did there website?

HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS:

I have made contact with this guy named Henry Warren. He is one of the best designers I have ever seen. He has done some really top notch designs like the official Warner Bros Training Day Movie site and other stuff.

This guy is MONEY

Check THIS out

This is one of my favorite things he has done.

Ya a little better then these local quick connect jackasses… so I am out 3 grand.. live and learn I guess.

why are you so stupid to hire them in the first place, then to pay them up front? you’re an idiot. And the new guy you hired is all about bells and whistles. That’s not someone you want to design a site geared for conversions. c’mon, you may be a smart marketer, but you don’t know jack shit about hiring good web developers.

Sorry to say i told ya so but i saw it coming. Also this Henry Warren guy seems better than quick connect, but really doesnt impress me much either. His designs are mediocre, his html is terrible! I can plainly see he uses dreamweaver to make sites in.

Personally, i wouldnt hire any designer that couldnt write xhtml1.1/css by hand.

PS: I STILL have your domain at godaddy.

This is very true. I have contemplated hiring someone to hire/manage desiners and contractors.

I have got lucky with developers and found some really good ones. Web desiners are another thing. Henry Warren is a brand expert and can get me started atleast (I think) in the direction I want to go.

But yes… I think we are all in agreement I suck at picking web designers and im a huge moron for paying up front.

I’ve had success with using developers from rentacoder.com - since you don’t pay them until you like what they have done, it usually means getting what you want.

if you are a very busy designer and work alone or with a small team, you don’t always have time to hand code everything. deadlines?! if it works and the final result is what you wanted… then who cares if you typed every letter yourself?

Wow, I guess even successful guys step in it from time to time. I’m no Rembrandt but I can turn out a pretty good site and do all my own stuff.

I suggest you just do something simple and tasteful for your site and just leave it at that. After all results are what really matters not fluff. We all know what kind of results you are capable of.

Here is an idea, I know there are lots of talented people who could do a great website and who would jump at the chance to do your website. These same people would also really appreciate some guidance from some one at your level. Why don’t you just put out some design parameters and ask for any one interested to submit something in exchange for a little inside help with their online ventures. I would be interested but I know lots of people would blow me away with their skills. Just thought I would throw that out for your consideration.

Just learned something new about Quick Connect today. I watch their site pretty closely, and they have a staff page. At one point we courted their lead designer, Duane Teeters. We offered him a ton to come work for us, but he was loyal to Yoder and to his credit was a good employee. Well, he is GONE from their staff page. Yoder hired two kids to replace this talented guy, and their work is not nearly as good as Duane’s IMO.

Oh, and if you want a nice laugh, one of the kids he hired is named Josh. If you visit Quick Connect’s homepage at http://www.helpmypc.com and view the source, you should do a search on the age for the word “Josh.” It looks like Josh has some hidden links on Yoder’s home page to promote his own art business.

This guy doesn’t seem to be able to keep a reign on his own employees! And also, I received a Dunn and Bradstreet report on him yesterday. He was shifted from a “likely to pay on time” category to a “high credit risk” category. That would explain where you $3,000 went. It is gone just like Duane.
