Quick Connect of Lincoln NE to redo SMG INC company website

by Jeremy Schoemaker on December 19, 2005 · 16 comments

I have been meaning to redo my parent corporation Shoemoney Media Group INC website for a LONG time. It looks like total crap currently. I want something kind of flashy yet easy to navigate. I think this is a good test for a local company called Quick Connect.

They bid the job out at $3,000.00 and I paid them in cash upfront. I think this is a little steep for a flash animation and 5-6 pages of content we will see what they wip up. It could turn out to be a bargain or a bad investment. I will post more as they progress.

I get at least 1 email a day from various companies asking for recommendations for hosting/design… This trial run could be huge for Quick Connect if they do a good job. Course I don’t want to hang that over there head. I want to see what they can do.

That is a huge gamble. Personally, I think that you may have gotten ripped off. But hopefully all will work out.

Sorry to say it but i think that’ll be a bad investment. Being a freelance web developer I know what im talking about. I have to say that their website looks like crap and so do every one of their portfolio sites.

Also, for a 5-6 page website with a little bit of flash $3,000 is WAY too much. I’m quite expensive and i wouldnt charge anywhere near that much.

Chuck me a mail if ya want a pro Shoemoney :P

Anyway, Good Luck.

lol its not really a investment. I agree its pretty pricey bit I want to see what this joint can do. I hate to do design and I really need a local company that does good work.

Shoe-

I dont understand why you would use this company…… There page is like pr2…. There premier site seems to be some golfcourse and from the looks of it they get links back from it so it was probably a freebee design.

I think you have to much money when you burn 3k on this small time place =P

I did not use them for there SEO ability (obviously). I am just looking for a LOCAL place that I can work with for some graphic design.

Good luck bro. When you want to hire an overpriced SEO let me know. ;)

All kidding aside it’s hard to judge someone by their current site… for all we know it could have been made several years ago.

Too bad they can’t even spell the name of your company when they talk about it on their home page…

$3000 for a 5 page site isn’t in itself a rip off. However, I’d want to make sure that designer had a thorough knowledge of converting traffic and building search engine friendly pages.

Haha this thread is funny. You’re getting shredded on your own blog man. I reckon its no big deal and worth a test. I actually liked your old site (well the one up now). The font was a bit too small but you have the information needed to make a decision. Which is the most important thing.

Anyway I like the copy. So I’d keep the copy as it is.

If I need $5,000 per month hosting and a $30,000 dollar website you’ll be the first one I’ll call. Plus I don’t really know of anyone else doing security at the moment so I’ll give a call if I need that too.

BTW I’m open to recieving $3,000 also if you’re thinking of giving away more money in the future.

from the QC site:

Jeremy at ShoeMoney has a lot of friends in the industry so we understand that we have quite a few people that are waiting to see what we can come up with. It is nice to have an audience.

Are they doing your hosting as well, Shoe?

Reminds me of the ISP I used to work for. Doing it all with the repair area and web design team. Hope your site turns out well. Good luck to the folks over at QC.
